How exactly does button accuracy work? Do you all reccomend a throwing meter as well? I play mostly offline but I'd like to get better and be able to play more online.

Button accuracy is basically just a metered option. You hold the button of the base you want to throw to and let go when it gets into the green "good" range. The size of the green area is affected by the players stats as well as if he is making a routine play or not.

Also with this option on throw from the OF there is a "perfect" line which gives you the most accurate throws during plays to help throw guys out on the paths at at home (also helps for best relay animations).

Takes a second to get used to the speed but once you use it, there is no reason to use anything else. Pretty much removes any throwing errors outside your own mistakes.

Thanks man, I'll give this a try.

On buttons it is random. Button accuracy is the only way to avoid throwing errors

    That sucks!

Accuracy with meter is by far the way to go and believe me it's very very easy

Please note that I have the fielding set to “buttons” and not button accuracy.

I don’t get how errors work in this game at all. They seem random. It makes sense they’re more frequent with players who have poorer fielding stats but how is it that I still get errors with people like Mike Trout or Trevor Story?

Is there something I’m doing wrong to make the arrow at the player’s feet turn yellow?

I use buttons with meter 100% fielding last 3 years. Pre load throws are the key for me along with superb defense attributes.

If your arrows turn yellow, throw cancel and do it again. Runner's gonna be safe, but it keeps you from making a bad throw and it going out of play. Especially with infielders.

You're not giving any input besides the base. Did you expect it not to be random? Button accuracy with the meter is the way to go.

So does the accuracy meter speed or zone change between given players. Take arenado v tatis; tatis has lower defensive attributes so is his meter faster with a smaller good zone (making it harder to throw good release); or are they both the exact same speed and zone size?

And does either meter speed or green zone change between difficulty settings (rookie / AS / HOF) get increasingly faster meter + smaller zone?

    and.. @LadySwampfox_XBL ...

I was a "button" guy for years. I switched to "Button Accuracy" in 2020 and never looked back. You just have to practice for a few games to get the timing down. I'm 58 (!) and thought I'd struggle with it. Once you have the timing down, it's basically muscle-memory (is there a muscle in your thumb? I'm not a scientist, but I'm guessing yes).

Once got the timing down, I rarely make an error. The only time seems to be when I have a player that's out-of-position, and the timing window is really narrow.

Go into a Conquest game and try it out (or custom practice). You'll fling the ball all over the place at first. Don't be discouraged. Just keep working at it.

I could get lambasted for this comment, but I think the answer is "yes". The window will vary from player to player given their attributes (and the window shrinks if a player is out-of-position).

I also think that the meter moves at a constant speed for all difficulty levels.

To the smarter people out here, please correct me if I'm wrong. Just be nice and don't hurt my feelings.

Thanks. 😁 I’ll go into practice mode and give it a shot.

The only way to field in this game and be consistent is using button accuracy. And yes you can still commit throwing errors even on perfectly thrown balls especially if you’re trying to use a first baseman who is out of position or a fielder who has bad throwing accuracy. But the throwing will feel much more realistic and natural on button accuracy. It’s also not that hard to get used to. Give it a try, I think you’ll find it’s not as hard as you thought.

I think the speed is the same but I'm not 100% sure. The accuracy attribute should be the primary factor in the size of the green "good" zone. I've really only played mostly on VET (offline grinding for pxp) and Allstar (BR/Ranked/Events) and I havent really noticed a difference there.

True, I probably could just hop into a practice and test it out, but for the limited time I generally have available to play I’d rather jump into games. Maybe I’ll start dabbling with it in conquest.

But in the immortal words of A.I: we talkin bout practice, not a game, not a game, not a game…..practice…..we talkin bout practice…not a game.
