This is my 1st MLB game and I don’t know much about baseball but been playing the show for about a month now and my goodness am I terrible. Over 50 online games and I’m getting less than 1 run a game. I”d say my team BA is less than .130 over all. I suck so bad and it’s frustrating cause I’m really enjoying playing the cpu where I at least have a decent chance but I wanna play H2H and play other people. It’s just frustrating as hell knowing I’m about to hit less than .13 and have my opponent with 18+ strike outs against me.
I’m a madden player and I win close to 90% of my games H2H. Finished madden 22 with a 1142-137 in H2H. I like being competitive and I’m enjoying every aspect of the game off line but online it’s a terrible experience for me cause I feel helpless. Any suggestions or tips on how I can improve my game? This is beyond frustrating to me at this point lol thanks for any inputs!!
I’m on Xbox current gen if that makes a difference
be patient at the plate mate, really wait for your pitch, don't yank the PCI, subtle and gentle, be relaxed, try to use a monitor if you can unless its a C1 TV - some of the forum guys have recommended this - have fun and enjoy the game
-
Play online rated with regular teams to get a feel without being crushed with 125 power guys and 98 mph sinkers every AB. When you start hitting and winning, go back to DD.
-
Go play MTO (March to October) switch settings to dynamic it will give you a sense of what level you are at. It progresses and regresses based off your gameplay. Practice mode also, setup certain situations when you feel confident setup a different situation.

Understanding the mechanics of the game is the key to being good at any sport. If you don't know much about baseball you pretty much answered your own question. If you weren't heavily into football do you think you would be any good at Madden? The Show online is pretty much shark infested waters.
Continue playing against the CPU for a while and be sure you understand why you're doing whatever you're doing. Check out some tutorials on YouTube. Watch a lot of baseball.
That’s so true about game mechanics that’s why I consider myself a great Madden player cause I’ve played it for so long and know what the game mechanics will do. Right now I’m still getting an understanding of what terms mean in baseball and their rules. I’ve been paying mini seasons and it’s really been enjoyable. Played like 8 seasons already and won 7 championships on rookie of course lol.
I would suggest you pick one aspect of the game and then study it. Once you get that down, learn one other aspect, and just keep going. Take pitching for instance. For every pitch you throw, you should understand exactly why you are throwing it, in that particular situation.
So while it's necessary to understand the mechanics of the video game, it's just as important or even more important to understand the mechanics of the actual game.
That’s also true but it’ll be a challenge cause I don’t know why I would throw this throw or that. I don’t know the meaning of a circle change or why it’s thrown and where to throw it at. I tried looking on your tube where to throw certain types of pitches but I couldn’t find Bobby about it.
4S fastball: straight(mostly) high velocity pitch, used to overpower hitters and to set up other pitches
CH(changeup)(offspeed pitch) straight until it drops, much slower than a 4S, used to mess up a hitters timing,or with the drop to get weak ground balls
SL(slider) (breaking ball) typically 7-10 mph slower than the fastball, massive glove side horizontal movement(from one side of plate to the other) and vertical drop. thrown to get swing and misses or weak contact grounders
CB (curveball) (breaking ball) usually the slowest pitches , massive vertical drop and some glove side horizontal movement
thrown to get misses or weak contact grounders
CIR (circle change)(offspeed) a change up grip that has index and thumb on side of ball which adds arm side horizontal movement to the drop
SNK(sinker)(fastball) like the 4S usually slightly slower has vertical drop("sink") sometimes slight arm side movement
CUT (cutter)(fastball) like a slider but mostly glove side horizontal movement some drop, doesnt have as much movement as a slider but has more velo
SPL (splitter)(fastball) a fastball grip that acts like a change up, unlike a CH which is a gradual drop, Spl is like the bottom drops out, sometimes slow like an offspeed sometimes fast like a fastball.thats the basics. hope it helps

Bro thank you so much for this! I seen a video where the guy was saying sinkers & cutters are META. I use the sinker quite a bit to throw low but I never have any succes with cutters. Where are you supposed to throw those types of pitches? I always have a tendency to throw all my pitches low. Idk they just seem harder to hit but it could just be me thinking that. I don’t throw that many high pitches.

If someone throws me a curve ball I see it coming high and and pull my PCI up only for the ball to drop and I miss it completely with my PCI and my swing time be off.

4S can be thrown anywhere(except middle) work on hitting all corners (from pitch view each box has a number, starting top left is 1 2 top middle 3 top right, 4 5 6 the middle row 7 8 9 across the bottom) start with hitting 1 3 7 and 9.when good then 4 and 6 but try and hit the edge of the zone, for box 2 you want to be above the zone.
start with the side of plate CB and SL break to, after you get good at that you can try the other side. CH always down. -

90%. win rate in MADDEN ????? your cheating somehow ...... your definitely not playing MADDEN like most of us ... with that win % in MADDEN I'm sure you will find a way to get to a 90% win rate in MLB THE SHOW too
-
Lol 90% win in Madden.
He will be bunting pausing and painting in no time.
Just stay out of online rated it's somewhat fun.

Hmmm I guess I'm basically the complete opposite of the OP, I'm amazing at this game..not trying to be conceited or egotistical....I play on Legend hitting and pitching with max pitch speeds. It has taken me a long time to get this amazing at The Show and since its your first stab you can't be this good right off the bat, pun intended. But all seriousness, practice practice practice...even being this good, before I play a Franchise game I spend about 15 mins before each game in practice mode taking batting practice. Just to get timing and pitch recognition down, I don't pick where the pitch goes..I simply let the pitcher throw so its like a simulated at bat. Even if you're playing at a lower level like All-Star with default pitch speeds, just go into batting practice and max out pitch speeds and try your best at the faster pitch speeds. You might swing and miss the majority of the time but that's okay, you'll make progress overtime. After, just go play at your regular level, if its All Star or whatever..the fact you took batting practice at a much higher pitch speeds would make default seem so slow and you'd be able to recognize break and pitch speed changes a little easier. And before you know it you'd be eating less hot pockets or drinking red bulls and instead drinking lattes and getting chicks.

Yes a 90% win rate. I’ve been playing madden for over 15 years and have beating some of the top “professionals” who played this game. I’ve beating them plenty of them honestly. I’m really good at the game every year I’m in legand tier and rarely do I get demoted. And also finish top 100 in week end league consistently. The highest I got was #6.
Cheating* as far as the game goes I been playing it for over 15 years and know the game mechanics and coding. A lot of a people don’t understand the abilities and what they actually do but I do cause I’ve done some a lot or practicing around with them and know which ones are the best and what their weakness is. So many people use escape artist but I’ve never once used it cause it cost so much ability points.
I can go on and on about the game mechanics and coding of the game but I don’t blatantly cheat pausing game, lagging, etc. I just know the game well and have a counter to every situation whether it’s on offense or defense cause I been paying it a long time and always been successful at it.

That’s true I haven’t really been practicing at much. I been playing mini seasons in DD a ton on rookie mode though lol so I can see why when I play H2H I suck. Also I need to start hitting with zone cause I play on timing but I suck so bad in zone. Over time I’ll get better I’m not giving up cause I like this challenge and learning a whole new game and it’s rules. I didn’t really think I’d enjoy a baseball game like this abd know I’m trying to learn the in and outs of it from basically zero cause I still don’t understand everything about it’s rules or some stats that they be having like slugging or ops or whip lol

Your 28-42 in online rated. I looked at your Dynasty games and I went back on around 15 games and you've only lost maybe 2 games. That's not bad considering a first year player esp in DD. My 2nd year and I'm doing much better in online rated but dd I still an losing badly. You'll get better.

Online rated is a little easier for me cause I’m facing a lot of noobs and pitchers who don’t have 99 everything. But even then I’m only hitting .15 BA and getting less than one run a game. I’m just facing noobs like myself online rated.
In DD is another story doing even worse I’m hitting less than .15 hell my best hotter is averaging .17 David Justice. As far as games played I don’t know if it’s shows the cpu games played cause I been playing mini seasons a lot on rookie mode and that why you see my record like it is. Ain’t no way I’m going 13-2 H2H lol
-
Dont play online , you will thank me later. Wait til you have monitor ,special controller and all the latest Cronus Gen cheating mods.Since none of these things apparently exist,Good Luck and swing away.Swing Away......_...
-
Online practice does nothing because it’s perfect. The best way is to grind events and truthfully online. I started online in 19 and had maybe a 500 record. But due to the state of the game I went 150-45 last year and this year I’m 14-3. I have zero drive to play this sh$t show online

I don’t throw that many high pitches.
cutters belong on the batters hands your trying to jam the inside corner and break there bat or a strikeout is the goal with those type pitches.. A good rule of thumb is slow pitches in the dirt and fast pitches high, than as your opponent starts to figure it out switch it up just a little bit.. move fastbaĺs from high inside to high outside and change your offspeeds from almost in the dirt to on the corners and more in the zone and back and forth the rest of game Etc etc ...
