I was so upset to learn that the Doc died in an airplane crash after he retired. I didn't look him up for like a decade and read it all on Google. So sad.
So I'm not downplaying how tragic it was for Halladay's family but look up the actual circumstances.
Halladay's risky behavior was a major factor here. Still incredibly awful, but he wasn't a completely innocent victim:
I don't see anyone referring to Halladay as an innocent victim anywhere in this discussion what did I miss?
Just giving full disclosure. It sounded like this was the first he was hearing of the Halladay news, and although sad, thought it was appropriate to mention the real circumstances behind it.
Or, as he already said he read up on it, which makes your comment unnecessary
Ok fine. Let's just hide the truth and let people assume he died in a tragic plane crash, helping others in a saintly way (like Clemente for instance).
Not saying you are wrong, just saying that the comment of the circumstances of his death was irrelevant in this forum. Example: I could say that Roy Halliday preferred his steak medium rare. I may be correct but no one was talking about how he likes his steak or how he messed up.
While I don't think it NEEDED to be brought up it is relevant. Every time someone brings up a Jose Fernandez card the first 5 comments are people talking about how he died. Overall tho I don't think any of us should be judging how someone died, we don't know anything about their circumstances leading up to these situations.

Sorry to bring up the sad truth everyone! But I'm done responding.
And this thread gets an upgrade
Yeah what was that all about the guy went from zero to a thousand
/shrugs (I need to learn how to speak emoji lol)
The struggle is real I know what you mean

Just had another thought on who it could be...what if it's not Delgado or Howard themselves but rather the teams they played for...I still think it's a strong likelihood that it's Halliday, but....Howard (Phillies) and Delgado, who retired as a met....could the hall of fame reference and the fact he played for the Phillies and retired as a met be 8n reference to Richie Ashburn?

If people get all worked up thinking it's Halladay and it turned out to be Richie Ashburn people would be burning their copies of The Show in the streets. Myself included.

Richie Ashburn isn’t a new legend
-
Its gonna be Miguel Cairo.
Played with Delgado in 96 with the Jays and in 2005 for the Mets, played with Ryan Howard in 09 with the Phillies.
SCORE!!!
-
It's been said in here before but they're tossing out cryptic clues, it's a 1 mystery boss program and it's a new legend so if it's not Halladay, it's someone that would excite people as much.
Basically, every other name said in here would not inspire people to grind this program..
Except Miguel Cairo. That would be like Clemens or Bonds.

Joe Carter fits if you understand the history!

Man, don’t do that to me, I’m still grieving.

No; his top 3 achievements came with Philly; I say that as a Canadian fan: WS, postseason no-hitter and perfect game.
With that said, as a former Jays, he’s still eligible for my Canadian build.

"You'll find his plaque in baseballs hall"
"You'll" doesn't mean it's a current HOFer. The wording could mean future HOFer.
And plaque can just be a reference to someone who should have demonstrated better oral hygiene.
-
For me i believe it won't be Halladay because he would need to be a 99 and it's too soon for that. Although I have no idea who it could be then. Maybe a 95 overall Steve Carlton?

Upvote on the Jose Fernandez similar circumstances. Gladly will take the L for this one.
Still wasn’t necessary
Nah Fernandez is a scumbag he also murdered his friends. Halliday perished solo.

There's a difference between Roy and jose. Roy's mistake cost him his life only. Jose's mistake killed two other innocent people. That's a huge difference. there are two families who are missing loved ones because of Jose's coked up recklessness. Jose is a murderer, Roy is not.

So were you there that night? Did Fernandez force those people at gun point to come with him? Tragic yes but murder? That's an idiotic take. Also Roy managed to only hurt himself out of luck, that plane could've easily crashed somewhere with people and killed someone. Both tragedies that were unfortunately brought on by their own actions.

If Jose lived he will be charged with some sort of manslaughter or aggravated DUI causing a death. End of story. He killed two people and of course he didn't put those people on boat at gunpoint. Grow up.

Did I argue any of those things? No, I said calling him a scumbag and a murderer is stupid which clearly even you agree murder was a bad choice of words since you went with manslaughter this time. Learn to read what people actually say and not what you assume they say

He is a scumbag he's responsible for three deaths because he was acting like a maniacal crackhead. It's quite possible the family of one of those two people that died do consider Jose a murderer. It's a matter of semantics.
