No; his top 3 achievements came with Philly; I say that as a Canadian fan: WS, postseason no-hitter and perfect game.
With that said, as a former Jays, he’s still eligible for my Canadian build.

"You'll find his plaque in baseballs hall"
"You'll" doesn't mean it's a current HOFer. The wording could mean future HOFer.
And plaque can just be a reference to someone who should have demonstrated better oral hygiene.

For me i believe it won't be Halladay because he would need to be a 99 and it's too soon for that. Although I have no idea who it could be then. Maybe a 95 overall Steve Carlton?

I was so upset to learn that the Doc died in an airplane crash after he retired. I didn't look him up for like a decade and read it all on Google. So sad.
So I'm not downplaying how tragic it was for Halladay's family but look up the actual circumstances.
Halladay's risky behavior was a major factor here. Still incredibly awful, but he wasn't a completely innocent victim:
I don't see anyone referring to Halladay as an innocent victim anywhere in this discussion what did I miss?
Just giving full disclosure. It sounded like this was the first he was hearing of the Halladay news, and although sad, thought it was appropriate to mention the real circumstances behind it.
Or, as he already said he read up on it, which makes your comment unnecessary
Ok fine. Let's just hide the truth and let people assume he died in a tragic plane crash, helping others in a saintly way (like Clemente for instance).
Not saying you are wrong, just saying that the comment of the circumstances of his death was irrelevant in this forum. Example: I could say that Roy Halliday preferred his steak medium rare. I may be correct but no one was talking about how he likes his steak or how he messed up.
While I don't think it NEEDED to be brought up it is relevant. Every time someone brings up a Jose Fernandez card the first 5 comments are people talking about how he died. Overall tho I don't think any of us should be judging how someone died, we don't know anything about their circumstances leading up to these situations.
Upvote on the Jose Fernandez similar circumstances. Gladly will take the L for this one.
Still wasn’t necessary
Nah Fernandez is a scumbag he also murdered his friends. Halliday perished solo.

There's a difference between Roy and jose. Roy's mistake cost him his life only. Jose's mistake killed two other innocent people. That's a huge difference. there are two families who are missing loved ones because of Jose's coked up recklessness. Jose is a murderer, Roy is not.

So were you there that night? Did Fernandez force those people at gun point to come with him? Tragic yes but murder? That's an idiotic take. Also Roy managed to only hurt himself out of luck, that plane could've easily crashed somewhere with people and killed someone. Both tragedies that were unfortunately brought on by their own actions.

If Jose lived he will be charged with some sort of manslaughter or aggravated DUI causing a death. End of story. He killed two people and of course he didn't put those people on boat at gunpoint. Grow up.

He is a scumbag he's responsible for three deaths because he was acting like a maniacal crackhead. It's quite possible the family of one of those two people that died do consider Jose a murderer. It's a matter of semantics.

You could also argue Fernandez was in his 20s when engaging in his reckless behavior, while Halladay was 40.
Plus Halladay was [censored] lucky he didn't crash into anyone else. There were lots of boats, swimmers, etc in close proximity to his crash.
The point is, both of them are largely responsible for their own deaths. (and yes. 2 others in Fernandez' case)

Those 2 others is the huge difference. Age has nothing to do with anything. I feel more sorry for Roy's family because he had kids that he could've seen grow up and whatever. Jose escaped Cuba just to kill himself and two other people. What an absolute waste. His poor mother.

While Halladay operating a plane with several different drugs in his system is reckless. Everything that was in his system I believe is a prescription medication. Halladay did suffer from chronic pain in his back and arm so I can understand why the medication was in his system even if he was impaired and flying the
Cocaine is an illegal drug and he had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
Yes the plane crash could have ended worse then it did but the drugs in Halliday system were not illegal.

You don't take the amount Halladay had in his system by accident. He by no means should have ever been flying that plane that day. Doesn't make his death any less tragic and Jose Fernandez taking people with him doesn't make his any less tragic either.

dramatic much? What happened to Jose and the others is awful and it was the poorest of judgements, but turn on the news for about 15-20 minutes and you'll see what a real scumbag/waste/murderer is. Jose was a good kid who made the worst decision possible, just like you/me/tons of other people in this forum have probably made atleast once in our lifetime....this one just had the ultimate outcome.

These other dudes were comparing halliday to Fernandez and I was being overly dramatic pointing out the Fernandez took two other lives with him whether intentional or not so in my opinion there is no comparison. I couldn't care less about Jose Fernandez and his accident it's terrible for his family and the other people's family. But to compare him to some guy that killed himself in an accident but didn't kill anyone else is ridiculous.
