The more natural thing would be stride analog with stride using zone and being able to pick the swing type before hand. It’s also a poor analogy as walking isn’t a competitive environment. Unless you are comparing online dd to power walking competitions then you are essentially saying the top players are winning because they walk on their hands...no need to one up me on your approach I see why directional has it’s benefits being that you can skillfully choose your swing path
Yeah, that came out a little snarky... I admittedly came in here a little wound up after the OP's brainless word choice hit a little close to home, and likely came looking for a fight. My apologies for any offense.
This is really my thing to get over, but I just can't stand the reticle; always thought it was super weird in a baseball game, as it just seems odd to control where the batter's eyes are looking, as if they'd be otherwise looking for fire engines like Rube Waddell if I didn't force them to track the ball. Plus it makes me feel more like I'm back playing Missile Command rather than taking swings... I just really like the feel of having a plan at the plate, looking for the right pitch, and timing it with the right swing type for the situation.
That analogy was really meant to show that moving the reticle is indeed difficult, but something I'd assume that a hitter already does perfectly well (watching the baseball and trying to put their bat on it). I like the competitive walking comparison reference, though; it made me imitate speedwalking in front of my daughter last night and she got a good chuckle out of that. I do kind of feel like the top players are walking on their hands, though, but that's what the game rewards and kudos to them for being good at it. I'm not.
Anyway, thanks for the banter and good luck to you. If we meet up in a game, I assure you it won't be in an MLB stadium because I can't stand that [censored], either.
What’s wrong with MLB stadiums? Not all are laggy like Globe Life or Minute Maid. I use Truist all the time and it plays fair. You still need decent PCI input to get it out and it’s not so huge that a 10 PCI rating with late timing ends up as a triple. It’s the right combination of hitter and pitcher friendly without the lag.
Shadows can be pretty bad there sometimes. Suddenly Edwin Jackson becomes Bob Gibson
That’s why I play only night games in October. No shadows to deal with.

These posts always make me laugh.
OP posts something,
People jump on OP,
People start arguing amongst each other
OP never says a second thing and sits back watching the chaos explode. -
And people post months after a thread dies most likely not reading what has come before and share their ignorance. Folks that think directional is easier need to show me one of the top guys winning with it on YouTube vs another top guy.

A month, it's a year old post, and the dude just started a thread about it. I'm sure if this thread was actually read, it would be clear that directional people are at a disadvantage online. Sure there are going to be moments that RNG will be in thier favor, but overall there is such a low ceiling using time based hitting.
In a perfect world there would be zine match with zone and timing with timing, but considering all the other issues with the game that SDS has to deal with, there is no real reason to tackle this just because a few people were unlucky enough to be on the receiving end of thier opponents lucky dice roll that day.

I don't think goons who are mashing are using directional. I think they're goons who are mashing.
There's no way to verify what interface your opponent is using, so this OP reads like sour grapes to me.
The fact is that are lots of people online who spend half and hour in "BP" on legend to warm up for RS, and some people don't (like me). They also have monitors, are probably younger with better reaction time, etc....

Squaring up the location along with timing is much more skilled than choosing your swing type and having the batters vision determine the accuracy of the swing.
It also takes a lot more skill to walk on your hands than it does to walk on your feet, but is it really necessary, other than to say that you did the harder thing as opposed to the more natural thing?
Nothing that the game does is "natural." Please. They're all video game conventions. One is more complex, the other simpler. That's all.
And if you want good results more consistently based on good user input, then yes: zone really is "necessary." Whether it's unnatural in your eyes or not.
If you suck at zone (like me) and use directional (not me), you're letting the computer RNG your "good input" based on hitter-pitchers attributes. That, in the context of competitive mode, seems like the most "unnatural" thing of all.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m finding directional hitters to be ruining this game with their no skill, just hitting the hit button play. I pride myself on good pitching, yet people are hitting sliders and curves Breaking out of the zone like they are meatballs down the middle. Sure there are some good players that have skill yes, but I’m getting blown out every game now and no one can tell me that everyone got that good over the past week. It’s a setting that needs to be removed and makes this game not enjoyable at all. Directional hitters are cancer for this game and with the developers adding more and more diamond players to DD it’s only going to get worse. So to the developers, please remove directional hitting either in the next update or in the next game because it’s ruining your game. [link text](link url)
It could also be those using timing as well.

my favorite is when people pretend to know what their opponent is using....
i was show wondering how he even knew?
Good point.

There's no way goons hitting nukes all the time are using anything but zone.
Unless they're also using that aiming cheat software, which is a possibility....

To this day, I will never understand this complaint. If using Directional is so easy and gives people an advantage, why aren't more people using it? If it's so easy why do I hit worse with it?
My experience with Directional, is that certain hitters I hit better with using Directional than zone and other hitters I hit better using zone. It is to much wasted time to go back and forth between the 2. Zone is 100% the option to use. I do suck at hitting. If you leave one in the middle of the plate or high even some hitters can hit the low ones out with good timing but overall zone hitting is the way to go.The players who are good with using Directional wait for that one pitch.

Cancer is cancer. Directional hitting is something that annoys you in a video game. Big difference
I never understood why ppl use terms like this to describe things. The "this game is AIDS" comment makes me cringe. AIDS is wayyy worse than MLB the show.

Yeah, it's pretty insensitive considering that there are probably more than a few people in the forum who have dealt with or are dealing with family or friends that have cancer. I lost both my parents to cancer and one of my friends is currently dealing with it.
It is not something to trivialize by using it in this context.

Dude, I wrote the comment you quoted like a year ago... maybe "natural" wasn't the best choice of words, but the point is just as true today; moving a targeting reticle to simulate eye movement while batting is a convention that doesn't belong in a baseball video game. I don't know that I could come up with something more stupid if I were paid to complete the task.
I don't use directional anymore because I found analog stride to be a better simulation of a swing, so I use timing with analog input now (for those about to say timing is just pushing a single button, it isn't on analog; that input on timing uses the same inside/center/outside directional control as "pure analog" from games past). To claim that is somehow not user input is just silliness... if the argument is that moving the targeting reticle is more difficult to line up, then, whatever. I disagree, but for those that don't, then congrats on choosing to do something ridiculous because they think it's harder (though they get better results... which actually belies that).
It's simply a personal choice. I like the way it "feels" when I time the stride just right and then time an inside swing to belt one into the stands. I get no satisfaction using the PCI, which besides being silly, clearly doesn't work as people think it should (hence the incessant complaints). And, for the record, aiming and pushing a button is not somehow more "complex" than timing a stride, a swing, and choosing a direction.
