Is it just me or is the hype not as strong for the game this year?

If the team affinities are timed and will be lost then it killed a huge amount of the little hype I had for the game. I didn't care so much about the innings being timed and vanishing but not rhe affinities.

Let’s not forget the origin of these Affinity type programs. Until the introduction of events in ‘17 or ‘18 FB and legend cards were locked behind the ‘ticket booth,’ collections, and conquest.
In ‘19 events were added along with individual small player programs. Towards the end of the season there was a ‘turn back the clock’ event which didn’t allow LS cards. The forum threw a hissyfit b/c not everyone had enough cards to fill a team for the event.
Starting the following year we were given an easier path to get fb and legend cards. This was around the time SDS inked a deal with Topps that allowed for an explosion of fb and legend cards.
It will be ok. I’m sure that whatever they are doing here has been thought through so as not to repeat the ‘turn back the clock’ event Diasaster…just please no more hat collecting

I think people were deflated subconsciously because of the Lockout, or everyone has been caught up in the Gran Turismo drama & that they're deflected a bit.
I still have yet to get into Spring Training baseball, but did the 3/25 auto download.
Maybe most get hyped next week.
Maybe. -

Maybe.I definitely think the lockout is largely to blame to. I know it sapped me, months of no baseball news other then "no deal". Really knocked the wind out of my sail

They keep cutting and pasting the same crappy gameplay every year. People are getting fed up.

Everybody at this time is thinking "Dang why did I spend thousands on stubs in 21? I'm going to spend less in 22" NO YOU WILL NOT YOU ADDICTS, SPEND SPEND SPEND YOU LIL ADDICTS!!!!!!

I could be wrong but I suspect there is less hype because some folks have had enough of buying a reskin of the same game for full price.
Last year, I was so hyped, pre-ordered, was active in a league… This year, I’m not buying, let go of league play, and am generally happier.
It gets tiring convincing yourself that the gameplay is fun.
Just my .02 cents. I hope all of you who are playing this year have all the fun!

I agree with this. I'm usually on pins and needles waiting for the early release. The game just feels like a restart of your cards binder every year. Grind grind grind, get annoyed then start over next year. Might be time to move on with life without video game baseball.

Play the long game - give franchise mode a go. You’ll probably end up playing for the same amount of time, whilst playing a whole season that will (hopefully) be rich in stats and subtle storylines and the best part is no lag, no crappy opponents, no facing the same pitchers ad-nauseam and you can pause at any time to do something else.
I cannot guarantee however that outcomes haven’t been balanced to keep you competitive. It has felt like that since TS18.

Internet forums don’t seem as bustling and it just seems like overall the general hype is lower. Is this because of a lack of big legend reveals or what?
With my favorite series Borderlands/Wonderlands and Elden Ring out, and jumping into the fixed Cyberpunk after, I have zero desire to get this game this year, at least at the start. Same ole same ole, take some notes SDS. Gearbox changed it up a bit with Borderlands and have another solid addition to the Gearbox library

I never played pre fix Cyberpunk, I just know it's not nearly as buggy. This is why I rarely pre-order anything these days

Isn't that every yearly sports game though? Wouldn't that burnout have happened years ago?
I think part of it was the lockout and part of it is that there does not seem to be as much info being released this year worthy of being excited about. Other than Randy Johnson has anything or any legend revealed really been exciting?

Depends on what you mean by fixed. I believe most of the bugs have been addressed. To some people though it won't "fixed" until they add in all the cool features they originally promised. I played it on the PC. Never really ran into any major bugs. I thought it was a fun action/rpg that didn't really raise the bar much over other games in the genre.
Hard to compare a yearly sports game release with Borderlands. I want to play Wonderlands even though I felt that BL3 kind of overstayed it's welcome. It seemed to drag on.
Elden Ring I want to try but I have to wait for a sale. I have a fairly low patience for the Souls games since there is a good chance I give up before I finish.

No one is really hyped to fight with the servers…again..and then read 1500 complaint posts about the servers…again. It’s the calm before the storm, most of us have to mentally prepare for another summer grind as well.
Yeah I cant deal with that again nor the frezeglitches. Thats why I am not getting this years even though I said that last year I am definitely not this year sold the console just incase lol

Elden Ring is so good. You’ve probably already read this elsewhere, but the open world makes it so much more palatable. I never really got into the From games before this either, but the ability to explore whole grinding made Elden Ring far more accessible. I think I spent about 20 hours before even attempting the first required boss. None of it was really grinding, it was all just exploring the opening area. By the time I finally got to the battle I was scared of, it was easy.
And as to not be completely OT….
I started playing DD in 19’ and became obsessed, played it pretty much nonstop until some point last year, I realized the game was causing me more anger than fun….I have not pre-ordered this years game and I do not intend on playing (unless those crazy ps plus rumors somehow are true). Elden Ring actually does make the decision easier.
Honestly, when I put the game down and started having different gameplay experiences, I found myself much happier finally getting to games like Nier:Automata and Disco Elysium as opposed to playing through busy work moments to acquire some card I’d barely use before a better one came out and that I’d never even want to use because online play was a dumpster fire. -

Maybe? I really tried to get better last year and the year before. I came to the sad conclusion that there was more at play than just my own effort and input, and once that became obvious, it was harder and harder to have fun playing the game.
I’m not trying to dis the game or those of you still playing. Enjoy! But don’t be afraid to let it go if you’re really not having fun.
There’s a lot more to life. I have 66 home games of our local high A team to split with friends and that will scratch the itch this year!

Everyone knows it will be the same [censored] catered to players that suck.
From 2017 late jammed bombs and texas leaguers to last years corner painting PPP and no pci/secondary pci home runs/foul tips off the elbows.
It’s fun to play, but come on now.
People know SDS has people bowling with the bumpers on against people playing the game straight up and they will never admit it. It’s a game, why not just let people fail.
Have a real baseball mode and a kiddie lane/guard rails no gutter balls learn how to play mode…..
This isn’t true or else there wouldn’t be the same consistently top players
Obviously the cream will rise to the top, but I’m not even referring to the outcomes. I am referring to the idiotic mechanics implemented to let bad players not get smoked by 45.
Even when you are winning handily some of the stuff is mind numbing. Get rid of the outer pci and let people strike out when they swing at sliders at their toes and I’ll be happy.
