It was my friend and he solely uses Directional and has for years, he only has one hand.
I’ve been curious and suspicious about how the game caters to Directional hitters so we decided to do a test.
I was only going to throw the same pitch in the same spot (a sinker down and in right on the corner) for the length of the game and see what happens.
For the first 2 innings he couldn’t do much but keep fouling them off and eventually striking out. Then like a light switch turned on, he magically starts making hard contact and hitting line drives into the outfield. How is that possible? The PCI does not move with directional, how is he hitting a ball on the bottom corner, let alone sending hard hit line drives into the outfield? At best these hits should be nothing but choppers according to the PCI placement (ball hit on the bottom of the PCI). After I went up a few runs, it got real interesting. Now he’s sending no doubters into the stands and my fielders are letting routine hits go right passed them like they are playing on a T Ball team. The game is trying it’s hardest to keep him in it. In the late innings, with a fresh reliever, my pitches are being forced into a better part of the zone, to make it easier for him. He ties it up with another error from my SS and then on yet another sinker on the bottom corner he walks it off with another no doubter.
That was it, I was suspicious over the years and now it’s confirmed. This game caters to directional hitters and literally rewards them for doing nothing but pushing a single button.
Their claim of “stick skills reign supreme” is a flat out lie and when they say they want to make this game as “realistic” as possible, what they actually mean is, the game is basically scripted and at times there’s nothing you can do, even if your the better player, from the game deciding the winner.
I will not be purchasing next’s year’s game or any future game until they can tone this “simulation” stuff down and let the better player win 100% of the time. Is that really too much to ask for?
This my old alt account btw for those “forum detectives” out there lol.
Guarantee you lose 101 times out of 100 to Weens or Oh Chev or Pitching rebel or Bmac or any of the other great players. Lmfao at this troll post.
Why wouldn’t they be able to beat me 101 out of 101 times if they’re that superior to me?
Totally missed the point kid, I’m sure one these guys can enlighten you as to what was meant by my comment.
You can’t elaborate on your own comment? You can’t explain why a far superior opponent might lose a game to an inferior opponent?
He said you would lose 101 times out of 100.
Right, but if I’m playing someone that much better than me, how could I win even once?
Even the lowly Baltimore orioles beat teams that are way better than them. People say it all the time, that's why they play the games.

For the millionth time, if Directional is so easy, why doesn't everybody use it?
Is it personal "integrity", or that it's actually pretty difficult, especially as you move up through the ranks? The answer is that with zone, you can somehow hit 400 ft bombs off pitches over your head, gappers off sliders 3 ft off the plate, and chip shot hits off pitches in the dirt.
I use both but prefer Directional because my eye is much better.Zone defies the laws of physics annually.
Directional is more realistic, therefore much more limited.

“I threw the same pitch every single time and he finally adjusted to it” doesn’t prove what you think it does.
How could he adjust to it? He’s a directional hitter. What you actually mean is, the game itself adjusted to it and helped him out.
Are you being purposefully obtuse?
All he’s controlling is the swing timing. The AI and the batters attributes and ability are controlling the rest. This has been explained repeatedly.
All he has to do is push a single button and the AI does the rest for him? Wow….that’s actually allowed in competitive online?
Yes, but they are penalized for it by having less user impact on the results.
Like it has been stated none of the top players use directional.
Think of it like this, using directional has a higher floor, but a lower ceiling as compared to zone.
Penalised; I would argue that this word is ambiguous in this context.
Penalised in terms of the satisfaction that they contributed to the result: sure.
Penalised in terms of the play result: apparently not.
See high floor low ceiling. Because thats my explanation for penalized. Its all a matter of how much dice roll is applied. For the more difficult interface you have less dice roll. But you still have it. For something like directional you will have more, and unfortunately sometimes that dice is going to come up high and that person using an easier interface is going to get good results, and the better the cards they are using the more it's going to happen.
I'd still rather put my fate in my hands and use the interface that has less dice roll and if I lose to a directional guy who got a lucky dice roll, oh well, it sucks. I hate losing, but its not something that is going to ruin my day.
Amen to that last paragraph.
So in the final feature premiere SDS is talking about esports. I wonder if they’re going to be streaming (as in separating) the different input methods to avoid directional vs zone clashes (as an example). Or giving us matchup settings.
Or maybe esports is custom leagues renamed.

Also with directional, arrows and timing are everything.
You can't pull an outside pitch if you're late and trying to hit it the other way. If you're early on the same pitch, it's a rollover grounder in the infield.
You can't hit a fly ball on a high fastball if you're trying to hit it in the air. Pop up at best.
You have to hit down on a high fastball to get on top of it.With zone, it's just get the reticle there with decent timing and see what happens-- stick play.

I’d like them to implement a way for us to see what hitting interface our opponent is using before the game begins and be able to confirm/deny the match. If stick skills reign supreme, then let me play another zone hitter….not a player relying heavily on RNG.

Right on, glad you like the idea. Just don’t complain when a directional hitter takes your pitch they never should of touched out of the stadium…..with the push of a single button.

I am a big believer in using directional when I'm stuck on a moment where I need an xbh or HR and can't get one because I'm using Ozzie Smith or Gary Carter. In that event, I switch to directional, hold up and use power with every swing until I knock it out. But that's against CPU. I suppose if your opponent isn't good at moving the ball around, changing speeds etc. Then it would be helpful but I just don't know.

And for the millionth time, my question "If Directional is so easy, why doesn't everybody use it?" goes unanswered.

So can we sorta agree that directional is difficult in it's own way (just like zone), and those who disagree are just ignorant?

Jimmy: "Mr.McClure, I have a crazy friend who says eating meat is bad. Is my friend crazy?"
Troy McClure: "No Billy, just ignorant!"No not really, it’s still one button. When it comes to video games it can’t possible be any easier than one button. That would be watching video games. It would be arrogant to not accept the fact it’s a percentage based mechanic (luck) on the batters attributes vs pitchers attributes. I’m sure if you play offline with 99 overalls it might seem like you’re improving and getting better at directional but the percentages are just more in your favour meaning you don’t need to be as lucky. Directional is Basically Yahtzee and directional offline with 99s is heads or tails.
Zone really isn’t all that advanced either, one button plus aiming. This game should have switched over to a Zone/Stride mash up years ago. Aiming where the bat goes while having to make a swing like mechanic is just a ridiculous concept I guess. Power swinging is much more realistic. SDS is stuck in the 90s, it would be arrogant to not see that, they’re about to release a PS4 spec game two years into the PS5 life span. And they’ll release it in 120@4K when the PS6 comes out.

I’m implying that you just compared directional to zone and said zone is all about RNG. The definition of Directional is 100% reliant on rng. The fact you can’t see this is why you have no credibility with this thread.

There was an arcade game that did this my local pizza parlor had it back in the 80s-90s. Using the stick to swing was hard as hell. Wasn’t a lot of fun. I can understand SDS not wanting to implement this.
