I don't follow. Jeter being in the game this year has no bearing on whether or not the cover faked by someone outside SDS was a troll job.
As for the cover looking genuine. For years now people have been making their own covers with their own personal favorites. There is usually a thread on Operation Sports dedicated to just that.

Look, for anyone mentioning the video.. you're right. The guy showed us step by step and therefore it's easy to assume that everything was fake. At least it proves the screenshot was fake, despite it looking very authentic.
But a scenario is definitely possible that this guy pulled off a troll job while being accidentally right about the cover reveal. Just imagine for a second what a sh!tstorm that would cause for Nintendo and even more for HIM, because he used Nintendo trademarks online without the proper authorization and it went viral. Therefore its not completely unlikely that a legal team on behalf of Nintendo have pressed him to publicly admit it was a troll job and show step by step how he alone is responsible and Nintendo had nothing to do with it.
And while all of that is going on, this guy could've still be accidentally right about the cover reveal. But moving forward with that under these circumstances raises the question if Nintendo didn't really screw up time and time again (because the troll job was THAT good) and I personally believe that's why they went another route and saved the Jeter reveal for another day.

No, it obviously doesn't work like that. The partnership has been in existence for months and the manga artist has obviously already provided a slew of artwork in the last several months leading up to the launch of the game. You do the work before, not during. So it's not at all unthinkable that a plan B or plan C involved this partnership and they made it "ready to implement and execute on the button". It also doesn't have to mean that the partnership was limited to a potential cover. They could do a bunch of other promotions.That's what people in our field literally do with every project. I never get hired to make a single project, I always need a backup and sometimes even a backup for the backup.

But isn't that the same as my second option. That they planned a Jeter cover for today and made a last minute change based on some random internet guy mocking up a cover?
Do you really believe that they commissioned an artist to make the anime Ohtani cover as a plan B? I just don't buy it.
Might Jeter be in the game? Possibly. Will it be a big deal when they reveal it? Most likely. Was there ever a cover with Jeter on it? Highly unlikely.

Just for the use of those trademarks alone you can get into serious legal trouble, LET ALONE if you're implying THEY dropped the ball on a big reveal that you were right about without even knowing it. I guess most people can't comprehend that line of thought, but I believe it's possible and if a Jeter does get revealed it will be confirmed for me.

They want to make sure that they distance themselves from this entire situation to make sure Sony can't file suit against them and that the guy who created everything acted alone. If he didn't involve Nintendo trademarks in his screenshots, then Nintendo probably couldn't care less. But that forced them to act. Imagine a big time multi billion dollar corporation like Nintendo being okay with that and just be like "eh, it's just some troll who cares". No no no, it doesn't work like that at all.

If Jeter does not get released this year, I will come back to this thread and say I was wrong. But if he does get revealed, and I believe he will be, then I personally believe I have been right about this situation. Note how I say I believe, it doesn't make me factually right because there's no way to prove it for any of us. So you can save yourself some typing by pointing that out to me

Because I already addressed it in earlier posts, but because you're so special I will summarize again; I believe they want a Jeter reveal to be a WOW OMG moment that goes viral and creates a bunch of traffic on social and what not. This troll guy has ruined that, because he already went viral and the reaction of people to this reveal would now be "oh yeah we already knew, yawn".
This way, they save it for later and the wow factor will once again be there and might even be greater because of this whole situation. So there is actually upside to postponing the reveal under these circumstances.
