If there is no ratings drop by doing this, SDS really screwed this one up. Starters out of the pen should lose control, velocity, and break as well as K/9. What was the reason for adding this in the game?

Starters need to just take a massive hit to stamina when brought out of the pen. Start them at the same level of energy as the rest of the bullpen at least.

I don’t know why people are upset that they allowed starters out of the bullpen. Do they not use this strategy in the playoffs? Randy Johnson, Chris sale, etc. it’s part of the game. Instead of complaining about it, use it to your strategy.

Also starters tend to throw after the “opener” so..

The problem is they regain energy too fast, if you use a starter in relief it should take 3 games to get back in the green.

They added the option to use an opener, so you have to have the option to bring a starter in after him.

For everyone complaining about starters coming out of the pen needing to be penalized, have you watched baseball, or particularly the Rays the last two years? They’ve mastered this and it hasn’t negatively affected any of their starters. They didn’t suddenly become worse pitchers or unable to throw as long, they simply re-arranged who they face and when. Ryan Yarbrough last year and the year prior didn’t lack the ability to throw 90-100 pitches or go 7-8 innings, they just only wanted him throwing 75 pitches and going 5-6 innings. It was more about leveraging the hitters they faced and how many times they faced them. It also allowed young, inexperienced starters to be able to build confidence without as much pressure. The more strategy in the game, the better. I’m more miffed that we don’t have a 26 man roster like real life than I am about starters coming out of the pen.

They also dont pitch on three straight games with no recuperation. That's the problem here.

It's only going to get worse later in the year when you're going to get Kluber+SS Kershaw every single game.

Yeah, the rays definitely pitch the same 3 or 4 starters every game without using bullpen arms.

Pitchers are unavailable all the time in the majors. And all of them also have to take 16 months off at some point to have Tommy John too.

You could literally go Kluber/Newhouser sharing games, multiple games in a row with little effect on their performance. Throw in another free Rollie Fingers and you never need another pitcher again.

The Rays would never use three of their five starters in the same game.
I played a guy in ranked the other day and faced Ohtani, Saberhagen and Severino, not to mention five of his best bullpen arms.

The Rays also don’t have multiple HOF/perennial all-star caliber SPs they can just plug into their rotation at any time in case one of their pitchers does get gassed.

You’re so right. For a minute I forgot it was a video game and my virtual pitchers need to take 4-5 months off after each RS season.
As for the same guy going every third game, that’s not realistic. Unless they’re only throwing 50 pitches.
