Call it what you want, quick pitching, but it’s definitely a balk and while I know the rules have balls turned off, I think they should be eliminated entirely. Real baseball does not allow a pitcher to quick pitch with a base runner.

The other thing that SDS should fix is the ability to balk repeatedly. The solution is simple, once a pitch is selected, the pitcher comes to the set, then the player executes the pitch. This gives the base runners time to get set. Right now, I can only slow them down by holding R2. I do it religiously, it’s annoying for sure, but it’s the only way to stop pitchers from balking.

Bro I’ve been lobbying for years to turn balls back on in DD. It will never ever happen. People get on here and cry cry cry about it. I’ve heard all kinds of excuses. “It makes the game lag” or “they tried it in an event and it was a disaster” or “games are already long enough just git gud and it won’t be a problem”!! Unless there’s a way for it be to the advantage of elite players it will NEVER happen! I wish it would though.

Balks and quick pitching are different things. Balks do not happen in DD (or in any other mode in this game that I am aware of). Maybe read the MLB definition of balk.

Ok, so in an actual MLB game there are anywhere from a few to 15/20 seconds between pitches. Once the pitcher pitches the ball then the catcher has to throw it back. Then the pitcher has to get set and has to wait for the catcher to give the pitcher a sign as to what pitch they want.

    That takes time.

In the game, it's select pitch, pitch the ball, get the pitch back, select pitch, and then pitch the ball. If someone is quick pitching that sequence can happen in about 2-3 seconds.

    It's a huge difference.

Now, some may say that they don't want the game to take forever. It won't take as long as one could take I'd you have someone holding R2 to stop you from quick pitching.

The players who use this tactic are not likely to admit they are using an exploit. Usually they will gaslight you like Lord Bumpkin above.

When the pitches are coming so fast that the animations don’t complete, to me that is quick pitching.

youre comparing a video game to real life baseball, LOL. like you hit play game, focus in while hitting like what else are you doing. maybe not log on your phone or expect to step out the box in real life. like I dont get it if you cant focus during your own at bats thene dont hit play now

    You see? Gaslighting.

Note how he turns it around and makes it about YOU and what YOU are doing wrong, instead of acknowledging his unsportsmanlike play. He suggests that because it is a video game and not a baseball game, that he is free of baseball rules.

    Classic.

why dont you quote me instead of just speaking. im not even sure what the topic is I was legit curious how you can be quick-pitched. how can you not be ready you know its coming. I get the pitch I use meter and throw. just explain to me how you can be quickpitched without saying I need 15 seconds between pitches to check your phone, or just sitting there enjoying the view. at least have the common decency of quoting me instead of using my name and talking negatively.

TBH though, it's not a widely accepted idea that what you describe as "quick pitching" is unsportsmanlike. So I don't know if gaslighting is the right word, seems to be differing opinions instead

Maybe the OP could chime in to say what he meant by “quick pitching”. That might be more relevant to the thread.

Regardless, it is gaslighting. I’m not saying Mr. Bumpkin has NPD or whatever, but we’d probably get further along if he made attempts to understand what the previous poster was saying, instead of the approach he chose.

    My .02 cents.

yet again I did ask what is quick pitching I dont get it, and was given what it was in real life with some 15+ seconds of in between pitches like I havent played or at min gone to a baseball game. go see my original comment, also as above I think you need to check was gas lighting is. the game has a mechanic I cannot physically pitch faster than any set mechanic. the very most you can do to shorten time is to slide step but that comes with a cost of loss of accuracy. unless youre talking about completely letting someone like kershaw get set then thats another topic (still absurd). Irregardless, from the set the base pitch time if youre attempting to pitch at the shortest intervals between pitches is STILL PLENTY OF TIME if youre paying even the slightest bit of atttention.

yup I dont think he understands the term. I did ask what it was, was told in real life you get 20-40 seconds in between pitches. I guess half but gets out of his chair, adjusts his batting gloves and controller then sits back down. the game has mechanics you cant bypass, at the very best is slide step which is just a recipe for throwing balls or meatballs

MLB's and MiLB's AA and AAA pitch clocks (20 seconds) and the MiLB's low-A pitch clock (15 seconds) is not about giving hitters more time. The pitcher must come set within that time period and the batter must be in the box and ready with at least 5 seconds prior to the clock running out. So, the pitch clock actually works to create more of quick pitch scenario. So, the idea that MLB gave batters between 20-40 seconds is bunk! This pitch clock actually made the average time for a 9-inning game go from 3 hours 2 minutes down to 2 hours and 41 minutes.

My point was that OP described his experience facing an opponent that “quick pitched” him and Lord Bumpkin gaslighted him. I did not use the term incorrectly.

He then called me out for being negative and not quoting him, so I quoted him and reiterated what I said.

I know what gaslighting means. Anyone can look it up.

Maybe it was harsh, but I don’t think it was inaccurate. Lord Bumpkin was trying to discredit OP’s point of view, and then he also tried to discredit me when I called him out.

To play devils advocate, is calling his point of view gaslighting also gaslighting then? Since you are in fact, discrediting his point of view by dismissing it as gaslighting?

Obviously he started it, not OP or you, I'm just saying since what we are discussing is very much opinion based, not fact based.

If I stole your cookie, and then told you that you just forgot you ate it, that is gaslighting. But here there really isn't something verifiable like that, it's all based on opinions on whether "quick pitching" is unsportsmanlike or not

Come on, man. Pitchers balk at will in DD. Pitchers can roll straight thru their delivery without any type of stop or pause with a guy on base. Just because SDS has them turned off doesn’t it make it not a balk by mLb definition.
