Why can’t it be implemented? It’s clear the hitting engine is not based on actual physics.
Would it be too complicated due to varied bat speeds and swing angles/types?

Yes, probably.
Especially when you add in Ball Spin on the pitch and the fact that it is a round ball hitting a round bat.
Not saying it is impossible but the question is whether it would be worth the effort. Would it actually improve gameplay or make it more fun?

I don’t know about it being more fun but it can lead to more realistic results. It would be less frustrating for sure.

Yes it would be worth the effort & make the game more realistic simulation style because it will be catered to each hitters individual bat speed, swing & follow thru. It will not be straight across the board for all hitters based on strickly the user making their swing within the proper time & as well apart from PCI placement. Pending the person playing, this will be maybe too easy or too hard then how it is now. I think for me myself it would be easier because I will use hitters that their bat speed, swing & follow thru suits me best.
However I strongly doubt SDS could put in such effort to accomplish this if they are even capable of discovering the correct mathematical algorithm for it to work.

It's a great idea that can definitely be implemented with some research and work. Maybe SDS uses the cash cow that is The Show, and put the proceeds towards improving the gameplay. Instead of just contact/power. There can be bat speed, exit velocity, trajectory of swing, etc etc.
And with how advanced stats are now a days, they already have the numbers they need to put into an algorithm. Half the work's already done.
I know it's not going to happen though. lol Maybe when PS6 comes out.

I think it would obviously be much more realistic but the problem is there would be a lot more hard hit balls for outs too and just as many bad hits if not more.

Unfortunately there HAS to be some level of randomness. If the “RNG” (I hate this term because it’s not truly random) was completely removed there would be such a gap between the elite player and the common player that it would be nearly impossible for anybody outside the top 50 to get out of the 700’s. Reason is is that these guys will be able to perfect their hitting to the point that you wouldn’t be able to get them out. And this would be true when they faced each other. It would be a matter of who hits first. At least with a random decision generator a person can actually maneuver through a line-up. Now I do admit that sometimes the randomness seems to take over the game and that is what needs to be addressed.

That would be a bad business decision for Sds. You already have a successful product (meaning people buying it). Sadly people are focused on content not gameplay and realism. Release new versions of cards and obtain new player licenses....or go into the game engine and start tinkering with things...
In other words would you rather rebuild an engine or paint the car and hang an air freshner?

I think people underestimate how much "bad" rng happens in real life baseball. Everyone is always saying how it's a videogame so those things should be toned down, but a 100% physics based hitting engine wouldn't fix or lessen RNG.

If a physics based engine is out of the question, then I still say we need more animations added to the in game players. Seeing the fielders do the same motion over and over again, is so boring. Slides at bags should be much more exciting looking, than the simple "catch..glove down".
How about some swim slide animations, some guys bobbling the ball on a tough throw from the outfield. Announcers and fans cheering loud in big moments. Come on SDS dont phone this stuff in. I'm already not buying the next game until I see gameplay.
If they added some more of these variables, the RNG-ness will be hidden away from us even more, and it'll be more fun to play. Just saying.

Every year they advertise "300+ new animations added" when marketing the upcoming game. I just roll my eyes at it every time

Yes! down with RNG! Make hitting more realistic! By the way, a quick Google search reveals that in 2021 Houston's lineup led all of baseball with a team batting average of 267. Surely no one in the community would complain if even the show's best players were only able to hit 270, right?

As someone who didn’t buy this years game primarily because I was so put off by the progressively more unrealistic batted ball outcomes in previous editions, I had to log in and post. I totally get the gist of what some people are saying about top players being bot like and able to hit anything if there’s no randomness, but that’s kind of the point here. If my pitches go where I want them to go with good input and an opponent is skilled enough to make good contact regardless of difficulty settings then he’s done his job. He deserves to get that hit. However - And this is what drove me away from this franchise in the end, despite the fact it was my only game for years - it has to cut both ways. If I locate a perfect two strike slider down and away to a same handed batter, there’s absolutely no chance on this planet that with accurate ball physics, I give up a pulled home run or a floating moon shot over the opposite field wall at Shippet. That is not “RNG” or balancing, that’s just absolute garbage and totally unrealistic. Give him a sliced XBH down the line, have it loop over my 1B for a single, have a selection of batted ball outcomes that are selected from randomly, in order to keep the game fresh and unpredictable for sure…… But at least make them realistic options FFS. Spotting a pitch as described only to see it yanked over the wall pull side at some crazy exit velo after I’ve been lining out on perfect/perfect fastballs all game? Yeah, I just stopped buying the game entirely. The fact they now release multiple diamond versions of the same player is a huge turn off for me as well, as is the market cap on items that allows SDS to dictate stub flow. Overall, the game regressed in a lot of areas and remained static in others, but I’ve seen very little improvement in my time and I grew sick of it. Not getting my $$$$ on the back of another low effort, recycled, unrealistic product.

I would say 85% of the show players and developers have never played baseball long enough to understand how ball physics work.
