The ONLY pointers you will need for the 8th Inning Showdown

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT. Don't waste your time or the stubs. The 45K in XP isn't worth the frustration.
No matter which hitters you draft; they'll do one of the following:
Hit a line drive/ground ball to the infield
Or
Hit a fly out to the outfield.
If, and that's a BIG if, you happen to get good contact and it looks like the ball land for a hit; an outfielder who has bronze or lower defense will make a super-human diving catch or scale the outfield wall like Spiderman to rob you if a homerun.
Then, if you have to pitch and not give up a run, one of the CPU team's first there batters will hit a ball, that is so far out if the strike zone that it's in a different time zone, for a home run.
Of course, it's my fault for thinking that this would be remotely possible.
But that's 3-4 combined hours of my time and about 2500-3000 stubs that were wasted.
I would've been better off mindlessly grinding the CPU for that amount of time and may have actually came away with more than 45K in XP and definitely some packs.

Anyone that participates in showdown should get a free beer to help alleviate the upcoming frustrations. I generally do ok in showdowns. I cheese the CPU. Usually pick up the bunt perk and exploit it when I can. Not a solution by any means.

Draft exit velocity perks, switch hitters or right handed power hitters, dont worry about drafting pitchers until they make you take one.
I already mentioned it, but I failed all the missions up until the mini boss and still defeated the Showdown first try. Just relax and dont press so much.
Runner on first, send him on hit and runs to stay out of double plays. That's the best advice I have for you. Double plays will kill you.
-
Did it on the first try but it was definitely frustrating for sure. Exit velocity perks and early normal swings are your friends

I'm not that great of a player but I rarely see these showdowns as difficult. First try. Just draft a bunch of righties since you know you are facing Sale. Finished first try with plenty of outs to spare.
-
The fact that some players can beat showdown on their first try in no way excuses how completely BS this (and other) mode(s) plays, imo.
-
SMH the showdown was NOT bad at all. The complaints will never end until they say click here to complete showdown without doing anything worth a [censored], I think SDS keeps dumbing it down and I understand the criticism for the game overall but THIS showdown is DUMB easy, and I am def an average player at BEST.
-
The point is not that you are an average player (at best) and still completed it. The point is the gameplay is heavily manipulated and user input doesn’t matter enough.
-
Outfielders can’t make diving catches if you put the ball 450 ft to deep left. When playing the cpu on rookie or veteran I completely ignore the bottom half of the strike zone. Only swing at balls in that are in the top half. Of course with 2 strikes you’re not gonna be able to pick and choose but at least early in the count you can be more selective. Perfect perfects on balls high in the zone will usually be HRs unless you didn’t get it elevated in the PCI.

I have always thought that Showdown was supposed to be "unreal". Kind of like The Bigs from 2k used to be. I thought it was a "showdown" with big rewards at the end, where you were able to earn perks to boost your team and to help counteract the defense and such. There is no question that the offense you are able to generate is out of this world also. It is not just stacked moments.
-
First try I went into the final against Sale down 2 runs. Beat him with 18 outs left. I'm a good, not great, player and I think I've only failed one showdown all year. For all the complaining people do about showdowns, I would've thought they would be harder.
-
I always get this first try, it’s not really difficult.

This is why I don't do Showdowns unless I have to.
