Comparing MLB thr Show to Madden is a good way to get roasted.
Also if you think only the top 5 fastest players should have 99 speed to me that is a terrible opinion. Especially considering 3 out of the 5 would probably be bronze or common players with speed and no hitting attributesI made that comment, thats on me.
-
And to answer your question I'm not sure since I'm not as in tune with the NFL as I am MLB
-
I’ll tell you why you’re getting roasted. You’re questioning something splitting the tiniest of hairs.
You’re 100% entitled to your own opinion. But if you’re saying top 5 should be 99, I assume if O’Neill is 7th like you said, you think he should be a 98.
Then my question to you is why does that even bother you? 98 or 99. Heck make it even 95. Play a few hundred games and he’ll be 99 anyway with parallels
It’s just a stupid argument. Now if he were 500th in the league, I’d be all there with you. You’d have a legitimate argument
-
The Cardinals lost…who cares.

@MadDogTannen777_XBL
I mean, you didn't mention Madden but asked how many NFL players had 99 speed. Unless the NFL started handing out speed ratings the only place you would find that is Madden. -

I'm not complaining at all, I'd rather have a player with 99 speed than 70 speed lol
But why does he have 99 speed, ill be honest I didn't watch a single cardinals game this year (not even last nights)
He had 15 steals on the season and was caught 4 times. Those aren't 99 speed numbers
His live series card has a 96 in speed with a 5 in steal and a 36 in aggressiveness. So it’s not a huge leap to give a POTM version a slight boost. If I remember correctly he was in the 90’s in speed last year as well.
-
Give us a measurement of what you think 99 spd is - like give us a 40 time. Then we can find the numbers for you just on NFL combine alone. This wont even include players who get drafted then higher specialist to help get faster.

Merge this with the Musial needs to be faster thread.

My only problem with the speed attribute is that there is no reality where 260lb Frank Thomas (49) is faster than 170lb Musial (47).

Here's a sprint leaderboard from HP-1st base. Let's just take all those 29.5ft/s and faster. This is basically everyone with a -4.2 seconds to first. That is ELITE by any standard...Currently there are 21 players who can run 29.5ft/s or better.
Now this doesn't even include all the players who can run under 4.2, these are only the ones who can get up to 29.5ft/s. Some of players still run sub 4.2 but are more consistent in their speed, they can carry 29.3 the whole time but cant make 29.5...
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/sprint_speed_leaderboard
For example #53 has one of the fastest splits to 1st in the league but never ran faster than 28.9ft/s during the split. Yet runs a 4.04!!!!! Do you give him 99? He actually gets to first faster than the guys hitting 30.0+ ft/s
53 Sierra, Magneuris MIA CF 25 92 20 4.04 28.9

Maybe they factor in the moment of inertia. 240lbs is hard to stop on a dime

I'm sure a lot of people are surprised when they see O'Neill is fast, he is faster then Harrison Bader in RL. Also never use steals to determine speed.... those two don't always correlate.

Fair to be curious about the speed rating. I’m with you, @MadDogTannen777_XBL

While I do this its fair to be curious about the speed rating, Tyler O'neill(or any active player for that matter) is not what you should be curious about. They seems to follow statcast sprint speed pretty strictly
-
I mean, dude is a freak athlete and super fast. I think it's a fair rating. Its not like they gave him a 99 steal rating too. I believe his "steal" rating is pretty low.
-
@maddogtannen777_xbl said in 99 speed Oneill:
Yeah, hes 13th lol
Well there is your answer, lol. I didn't think he was that fast. But if he is 13th out if everyone then yeah, 99 it is.

Gotcha… I had no clue they go strictly by the book. I liked MadDog’s question, for the sake of discussion.

Some slower players were good base stealers and some really fast guys were not very good base stealers. That is why SDS puts a Speed and Base Stealing metric in. If a guy in game is rocking 99 speed and 60 base stealing numbers he might get to second slower than a guy who has 82 speed and 90+ steal. Tyler ONeill is clearly fast, but looking at his build during the game last night, I wouldn't think a guy built like an NFL linebacker would be a 99 speed guy.
This is spot on. I think SDS does a good job of pointing out that guys can be fast but not good base stealers. Really showcases how it is a lost art in real life.
