Topps Now card updates
-
First off, I don't agree with Topps Now cards being 97-98 OVR and being better than or comparable to Sig, Milestone, or Awards cards. However, with the progression of the game cycle, I think Topps Now cards from earlier in the season should evolve and progress as well so that they remain usable throughout the year. My personal example would be Rhys Hoskins. His TN card came out in May and was an 88 OVR. But if his card came out this week it would be juiced up to a 97-98. Why should the guys who had their moments earlier in the season be punished? I want to continue using Rhys even now but it's hard to start him over Jim Thome. I would be much more likely to start him if his attributes could evolve to the current game cycle norm. Everyone else is using an all-99 team anyway so what's the difference between my 88 or 98? I'm not trying to use only the best players possible in the game. I just want to use my favorite players and be competitive. I saw someone else's post calling for a new TN Dylan Carlson and I would say he deserves the same kind of upgrade.

It is kind of a raw deal for those guys earlier in the year. I understand why they do it but it is still kind of a raw deal.
Dylan Carlson got an 82 card for hitting a grand slam in April
Lars Nootbaar got a 97 with better overall power for hitting a walk off single. -

A) If you don't make the current Topps Now releases 97s-98s, then you get the inevitable flood of "why are you releasing unusable cards at this point in the game cycle?"
B) If players like Hoskins continue to perform, they will get an updated card either via POTM or Finest or whatever else they might have planned for TA5, 6, etc...
C) In Hoskins case specifically, it wouldn't surprise me if he was a goosed Inning Henchman.

It is stupid how ratings progress and there is an early and late version of every player. I miss the days when each legend had their maxed out version and rookie version only.
On the other hand I do like having a variety of players that are useable online.
I’m not sure what kind of solution they could implement to not make early season cards irrelevant given how they have the mode set up right now.

I began my DD career for that card.

Topps Now is actually one of my favorite parts of the game, because it's fun to use so many players who aren't necessarily huge stars or widely known outside of their team's fanbases. If SDS has to get a little wonky with the ratings so those cards can be usable, I'm OK with it.

Used to be alot of complaining over TN cards being a waste of time because they weren’t usable (they used to be way worse than what they are now). Now at least they are usable and creates a bit more lineup diversity

Would love to see this card! Didn't play DD in 17 or 18 so this is the first time i've seen it

That 98 Garrett Hampson is insane. Nearly 5 tool utility player. I don’t think he’s hit over .250 in his career and has sporadic pop but gets 90-100+ in contact and power for one great game lol.
