54 ip 36 saves only 4 home runs and 2 blown saves like it doesn’t make sense.. ageism I guess. Same with Waino.

Blown saves, and saves in general don't equate to any attribute.

He is held back by his K/9 rating and control which are both in the 50's.

He might have the same issue that Alex Reyes did early in the season (before his recent implosion) he gets the job done but not in typical closer fashion or in a way that translates to attributes. My guess is that they weigh SO/9 pretty heavily for closers.

Wainwright has the same issue, he gets the job done but without amassing tons of strikeouts. His k/9 and control are also both in the 50's. In general pitchers who don't strike out a lot of batters but induce a lot of weak contact are hurt by SDS's rating system, which is one size fits all.

It seems like for relievers only the high strike out guys get rewarded, but relievers in general still don’t get their just due in this game unless they’re a big name.. Topps now doesn’t generally give out reliever cards, because big outs aren’t rewarded as much as a .250 bench player who stumbles into walk off.. The primes and signatures are usually only given to guys who have had a moment or a season that’s great.. Melacon in general has a had a great career, but hasn’t had that one post season like an Andrew Miller or a Sergio Romo so he isn’t looked at the same. Not really ripping SDS for this, I think they’re getting better at giving relievers cards, but they are such an undervalued part of the game.

My take is SDS doesn’t upgrade players until they start getting talked about in the media. See Kendall Graveman, for example.

We’ve had a bunch of discussion about how rl stats relate to attributes in game in my Seager thread, but I think the bottom line is, if baseball media says a player is hot, SDS responds in kind.
