Not a Cubs fan but as a baseball fan I loved watching Baez,Rizzo, Bryant, Contreras... the Cubs had true stars. I don’t think anyone not even Cubs fans care to watch them the rest of this season

Don't you remember? According to him all MLB teams faced "losses of biblical proportions" because of covid. So now they're poor.

Ricketts has spent as deeply as a most big market owners has over the years. I can't exactly blame him for this one. There was something "wrong" with the Cubs chemistry after the 2016 WS. He spent a lot of money over the next couple years trying to fuel the "dynasty" that never was.
Probably figured the core group couldn't get it done, always managed to fail in the big series and figured the big bucks would be spent more wisely on some other free agents this winter. They did get a pretty solid boost in the farm system for a few guys that weren't going to be resigned anyway.
If they don't spend a whole lot, they won't be getting anymore of my money.
