The recency bias will always be strong in this community. The current game is always the worst one in the series to them. I completely agree with you that this is the best since 17. Anyone that disagrees must have forgot what the last 3 games were like when people were actually playing them.
19 was pretty good
After the HR/9 nerf maybe. But before that it definitely was not

I don’t think the gameplay is that much different, honestly. I mean, pitching improved somewhat this year, but I still think the hitting is the problem. It seems like getting outcomes on batted balls to resemble real life baseball swings must be very difficult to code.

Locked animations and scripted (boringly nerfed hitting) gameplay which rivals Derek Jeter All Star Baseball more than any of the recent renditions of MLB The Show. OP is correct, the game leaves a lot to be desired. How many errant throws can we possibly throw into second base from the outfield? A million LOL Same as hitting into double plays and "very late swings" as the bat speed is so terribly nerfed as well. I could go on but I digress. Long as I get my Florial Call Up Card ASAP I will continue to play on & grind.

Use the throw meter and never make an errant throw again... a couple games in conquest or something to get the timing down and your good. I can't remember the last time I missed the meter

19 was pretty good
19 was not that good and not that far behind 20 IMO.
The worst part of 19 was that the catchers could never block pitches in the dirt that little leaguers could have made. That problem alone impacted the potential outcome of a game in so many different ways (allowing innings to continue that should have been the 3rd out, or because of runners getting on base, allowing extra runs, etc.). They finally fixed it in 20, just for other problems to arise.

I have a ps2 and a copy of MVP Baseball 2005...crazy how smooth the game plays, and this was over 15 years ago. MVP 2005 plays FAR superior to this one and Im not exaggerating. The only thing thats better now are visuals
They keep churning out the same game year to year, as we idiots keeping fueling them. We need to hold these bozos to higher standards

I forget which year it was and which game but it was on N64 and I will never forget the best feature I've ever seen in a baseball game...They would have the ball flash a color on release to let you know if it was a fastball, breaking pitch or changeup, you still had to decide 4 sm, sinker or slider curveball, but it actually felt a lot like real baseball where you can really pick up the ball out of the pitchers hand and look for the spin.
Clearly they aren't where we need to be to actually show spin realistically but if they put this feature in the game I think it would be a huge improvement. Especially for guys like me where I am a decent hitter but just don't have the time to see millions of pitches a year to just know what is what.

It's the animations that drive me crazy. A pitcher will field a bunt and flip it to the catcher very quick, but a firsrbaseman will field the bunt and take forever to get the ball 13 feet, allowing so one with horrible speed to score in a squeeze play. And whenever you have a flaw in an online game players will take advantage of it. Almost everytime I play vs a player 700 or better they will bunt cheese in extra innings. That's why this [censored] doesn't get fixed, because the above average players will alot of games bunting with runners on 3rd.
Also outfielder still take way to long to get the ball back in. There is no urgency with fielders. Sometimes the fielders will field the ball and get good animations and sometimes they get the slow animations. Which only makes me think the game is scripted to allow hits/runs in certain scenarios to keep lesser players engaged

Use the throw meter and never make an errant throw again... a couple games in conquest or something to get the timing down and your good. I can't remember the last time I missed the meter I am afraid errant throws back into the infield are simply locked animations as they occur to both the player and your CPU rivals. Even if the use of the trow meter eliminates that single aspect there are countless other AI generated animations and subtle cheats both visual and precursory audibly generated that plague this game. It is in a game almost as bad as old DJ All Star Baseball and contends with Madden for locked animations and ingame cheats favoring the CPU. The current status of the game which has far more nerfed normal/contact swings than before the change to dull contact swings power is pathetic and ruins the joy of playing the game. The game is predicated on scripted outcomes and AI advantages to numerous to count or cite here. Most of the hitting experience outcomes are predictable and stagnant since the update to dull contact swings. The trowing aspect is only one modest and least important notes of problems with the game. This can be rectified, return to the previous abilities of contact swings and [censored] the online crybabies. JMHO
