Breaking Controllers

I'm not sure that's possible in a fit of rage unless you have a hammer in your hand.
From first-hand experience, I can tell you that if you spike it onto a hard floor, it can shatter into multiple pieces. I'm not proud that I know this.

I've broken a few controllers over the years, if you throw them at the floor hard enough pieces will break off (R/2/L1 buttons for instance) and I would include that as breaking a controller.
Yeah I’ve never thrown a controller at the wall. I’d be too scared of leaving a £500 hole in the wall as opposed to needing a new £50 controller.
Although I don’t really get raged at this game that much I have learnt to drop the controller on the floor but without force.
NOW when I played Fifa on PS4, I broke 3 controllers in about 2 months at one point by smashing them into the floor. One the casing bent out of shape, the next the l2 button came out and also the casing bent the last one the analog stick and 3 l buttons came out but to be fair these all wernt a first time of smash.
It’s fair to say I don’t play fifa anymore.

I’ve thrown a controller once at a wall. It left a big [censored] hole in the wall (that I had to patch and repaint) and a broken controller. Never again will I put myself through that.
-
Yeah, I have a few wonky controllers from my Madden days. I agree with everyone, a lot wiser to spike them on the floor (watch for the rebound) than patching a wall. Not a proud moment when the kids are asking what happened the day after...
-
Back when I was on PS4 my problem would be squeezing it and it would snap in half. This was back in March 2020 in the stage 1 AL West mini showdown against Liam Hendriks when the Athletics defense made every single play possible.
I’ve learned it’s not worth the $10 and embarrassment

There are times after being 30 seconds late on a 9000 MPH Degom fastball I have indeed contemplated throwing my monitor out the third story window. So far I have held back the urge, but it is getting hard.

The edibles statement bring a whole new light to your posts.
Just because I hallucinate doesn't mean what I post isn't the God's truth.
Exactly what every junkie I know says. And I know a lot, I live in Amsterdam.
Wham bam, Oh Amsterdam!
Stone you like nothin' else can!Anyone?

The only way I've broken a controller..and I've broken a few of the PS2-PS4 varieties. Maybe a couple of the Xbox way back when. Never from throwing..just ripping too hard on the analog stick and jamming the buttons. Can't say I've ever thrown a controller in rage. Just at spiders.
-
PS5 controllers ain't cheap.
But why stop there? Throw the whole console for kicks?I once broke a monitor throwing my The Show cap at the screen wrecking the motherboard last season.

Funny you mention putting a hole in the wall. When I was 13-14, I was a madden head and I would rage like no ones business.
So I would always play on the basement and after a few scoldings of raging too loud and being threatened to have my games taken away. I was getting worked in a maddn game and the rage was building. Instead of me screaming or swearing loudly I held mysef together. Or I thought i did…I ended up kicking the wall and putting a huge hole in it. A couple hundred dollars later and a serious near beatdown from my Dad.
I haven’t broken one since

I've broken them flipping cards too often. The buttons become too sensitive.

I've thrown PS5 controller at the wall from across the room to kill a big spider I thought I saw crawling down. Realized it was just a shadow but there were edibles involved.
The point of the story is, however, it's not as easy as you think to just break the next-gen controllers.
And sub-point, this game ain't worth stubbing a toe for. Only the newbies would get so frustrated. Those that have played a couple weeks already realize the fakery frustration points are rampant and you just gotta chuckle and say softly "wtf, another manipulated outcome by HAL".
Edibles being involved makes this the best post of all time

a lack of emotional control - poor emotional intelligence - that is what throwing controllers is all about - doesn't matter what the game if you can't control yourself like a wild animal

That's a little heavy my friend.
Better to throw a controller than throwing punches at family members or the pets. That's my opinion anyway.
Don't typically get that way over video games though. More fun to let that anger seep out through the poison pen. But, to each his own.

While true in a lot of situations you can't really use a blanket statement like that. Some people are dealing with mental health issues and have less control. I have crippling anxiety to the point I need to get up hours in advance to prep myself for leaving the house to go to work and it comes across as rage a lot. If I don't take my medication for a few days something I'll usually laugh off and just be like "man I suck" will make me want to put my head through the wall. -

I'm no doctor, but I would stray away from things like video games that got frustration and angst etched into their very DNA though.
That's the real danger of marketing stuff to people under false pretenses. They believe the hype and when it's not what they expected..sometimes bad things happen. There have been many a law suit.
Good luck, and I really hope things start going better for ya.

oh jesus - imagine punching your own family and those who you love? of course throwing a controller is better, my point was that one should never get to that in the first place
im not judging anyone here or being rude, just some casual observations on a wed
-
Jesus Luzardo broke his hand playing a video game, right? Imagine being his opponent in a BR or RS game that made him do that.
