It’s a very expensive card for no outlier. Especially considering all those 1st basemen with only one secondary position that all lines up with the top cards in the collections.

Why would you need 2 cards if they make his card work correctly? He should be a SP/OF card with a stamina bar that effects only his pitching. You should be able to select in pre game menu whether to put him in the lineup, or start him on the mound.
This. Yes. Very much this.
SDS dropped the ball on not allowing this Shohei card to play 2-way.
I am sure it's a coding issue. It's been in the game forever that sp's can't play the field. I am sure it's a legacy coding problem. My way works around that particular problem if that is indeed the problem.
It may be, but I dont quite understand why it would be that big of an issue. You used to be able to leave any position player in to pitch before. I cant see why selecting any card as your starting pitcher would be hard to code. You can currently start relievers, and pinch hit/run with pitchers.

I don't know anything about game design, but it seems like they could handle it without the need to give you two cards. Just code the card so that you can simultaneously add him to both your rotation and your OF without seeing the error message you get from trying to have the same player in two positions, then for games when you select him as your pitcher it could automatically sub in the highest rated OF eligible player on your bench and stop you with an error message if there isn't one.
Any coders out there who know if something like that is feasible?
I am a coder but not game design. I kind of think it's a legacy code issue in which every iteration of the game has been done this way. I think it could break something if they tried it without proper testing. My way gives them a way out without changing code that's already in the game. I don't know if it could be changed when they go to a different engine tho.

All the 1st basemen? You only need to lock 2 of them, Vlad can play 3rd and Mancini, if necessary, can play LF, RF, CF. Although, I went Vlad/Alonso and put Pete on the bench. Forgot about Olson but he can play RF and is only like 10k.

You can't put a pitcher in the outfield or a position player in the bullpen which is where the legacy code comes in. Leaving a position player in to pitch is not the same.

What I'm asking is, why couldn't you select an OF to start the game? All you would have to do is select the pitcher spot and swap positions with a position player. You used to be able to do it during the game. From what I could tell, the worst that would happen is the "you have a position player at pitcher" message which you could have an ignore button for. You obviously know more about coding then me, I'm just trying to figure out why that would be game breaking to code.

In previous years this may have worked. I remember doing that for grinding but I the 3 batter min will absolutely F you. Once you swap RF to P, that RF now needs to pitch to 3 guys before being yanked.
Thats assuming they even allow the swap.
I know I used to leave my PH guy in on the mound to see who the other team would bring in for their pitcher but doing that now results in the same issue so the game makes you pick your P first.

It won't give you that option. He will be in your sp section and not your bench section. He would auto go to the mound. The hrd version can be done this way because it's an outfield card.

You are talking about a double switch. When you double switch then the pitcher will go to the mound and the position player will go to outfield. You can leave a pinch hitter in to pitch but can't leave a pitcher in the field.
There is code that has been in the game since the beginning. It's in ever iteration so if you mess with this particular code then it could break other things in the game. It could cause glitches like the trying to make you take out your sp after first mound visit glitch. Most coders i know don't like to mess with legacy code but would rather completely work around it but that takes time and the coders in this game are working on the next iteration more than they work on current version.

In 18 when grinding those terrible missions like 4x 2bs with Nava, I would intentionally walk the tying run in to advance another inning to get another at bat with Nava. I would always swap the catcher and pitcher to intentionally walk those runs in so I didnt blow my pitchers ERA up. Then I would swap them back to get the final out. That's not a double switch, its swapping positions. A double switch requires a substitution, which wouldn't happen pre game as lineups arent set yet.
I know it's a little different now with the 3 batter minimums and other rules recently implemented, but you used to be able to do it in game before.
