Seriously I don't get the whole need to flex about "I play my single player content on HOF with sliders maxed, the rest of you are fluff players" bs. Who cares what people play at for their single player stuff. I don't play MTO at Beginner anymore because I figured out a pattern to the pitches and I was scoring too many double digit runs in games, wasn't fun for me. I haven't dashboarded any Moments (yet). I also don't give a squat if other people do, and will still show those people respect on the boards.
Online gamers flexing on the board I sorta get. People gotta feel good about themselves somehow when online can be brutal, especially the modes that don't match you by rating. But what's the purpose of flexing about single player? It's just like the dudes in PvE games with a PvP option putting down the people that only play PvE.

I think OP has a point. “Rookie” difficulty in years pre-2018 meant big pci, slow pitch speeds, and lots of pitches down the middle.
“Rookie” now can easily see four or five balls in a row to start an AB, followed by well located pitcher’s pitches in the zone.
I think moments as a concept are fine, but the way the sliders are cranked now is very frustrating. Sure, you’ll complete the moment after enough tries, but it’s not that fun.
Personally, I think this has to do with deficiencies in the hitting engine more than anything.
In real baseball, the game is controlled by throwing strikes and staying ahead. In the show, the game is controlled by throwing balls. Just play any game online to see what I mean.

True. I don't believe 97% of them anyways.

Whether you plowed through them or not, moments SUCK. If the purpose of the game is to enjoy it, moments make me hate MLBtS. They represent the emptiest, worst kind of grind.
And while I don't find them hard per se, I've been in many where the pitcher doesn't throw you anything. Or hits you in your last attempt. Those "moments" make me hate the game.
You clearly never played '18. Talk about the emptiest, worst kind of grind. Playing the cpu on rookie 9 inning games because you need 700 k's, 900 innings pitched and 400 putouts by a shortstop. Worst game of all time.
I got into DD late last year and started from the beginning this year. Meh, it's full of content that's exciting for a day and goes obsolete in 2 weeks. The grind is too much, and if you're an older player like me who can't hit well in RS, it's not much worth it...

Thats the biggest problem. I don't doubt that it is on rookie but with messed up sliders. I did a test earlier in the year with a moment and a vs cpu game and it wasn't even the same game. Rookie in play vs cpu games doesn't do the same things. It throws meat balls often but vs cpu I think it was about 70% strikes where moments was closer to 40%. It just doesn't play the same and that's what frustrates me in the moments.

This is true. Many moments on rookie for me you can't even see the landing spots of pitches they're so far out of the zone. Ridiculous.
Moments are rinse-and-repeat stupidity. SDS should get rid of them.

Yeah, the other day doing the daily, I thought the pitcher was throwing really hard for veteran difficulty. I was late on the fastball consistently.
After a couple tries, I went into custom practice on veteran vs the same pitcher and was yanking fastballs all over the park. Definitely not the same, whether it was cpu pitch speed, timing window, or both...

I'm 42 bro. Its not about the age its about playing the game for years. If you stick with it you will get better. I usually play during the real life baseball season and post season. After that I usually hang up the controller. Good luck.

Yeah just look at a Conquest (or vrs CPU) game on Rook, then Vet, then AS. You'll notice more balls as you go up, but on 3/2 counts less walks as you go up. Makes sense right? What could possibly be the reasoning for Moments pitchers to consistently get you to 3 - 0, 3 - 1 counts, walking you at least half the time if not more, when so far there's only been what, one Moment so far that counted "get on base x times".

Well, I'm 47. I can pitch up a storm, but I'm tired of games where both I and the other guy don't hit [censored] until someone connects on a dinger. That's RS for ya. Not my cup of tea, and unwilling to invest "practice time" to get better. Too much other stuff to do.

I agree. I'm 57 (!). The key word for missions/moments is... patience. On rookie/veteran, I have a tendency to swing out of my shoes at everything as it looks so slow. "Take your time" is my advice.
-
You see this thread SDS????? I'm not the only one who feels this way about moments!!! Moments are straight garbage it doesn't play the same like other modes in the game. You all have really ruined the fun in this game the way moments play.
-
Yeah i hate moments. They don't make sense as the pitchers don't throw hittable pitches and runners on base don't go when they should. The fielding sliders are way up for no reason other than to make you get mad at the game and try and take a shortcut. I am sure none of the devs or whomever makes the criteria for the moments are actually doing them . I will most certainly put the game down because of moments than anything that happens in RS.

I suck too lol. I got the Williams done pretty easy and the Cruz took a few tries for me

If I got paid to rate this game this year. I would give it a 4 out of 10. What did IGN give it? I'm curious. I want to go back to MLB the show 17. That was a fun game and actually felt less stressful and you were rewarded for being good at the game as far as gameplay. Every year since 18 this series had gotten worse. I absolutely hate the perfect/perfect line out to infielders in moments when the ball you hit was up in the zone. That's so annoying to me probably the biggest annoyance with this game. So freaking frustrating!

Bring back the george brett 4 doubles in a game. Watch me go 28 innings to finish it. Now thats strategy an skill to not let the pc score and not hit a hr to end it. Best game of all time

With all due respect, if you play online and don’t see any strikes, stop swinging. If you’re chasing balls out of the zone, why would anyone give you something to hit? That’s exactly what would happen IRL.

I hear this response all the time. I’m talking about moments, not online.
And it’s not what happens irl. Pitchers don’t come out of the gate going 3-0 to every hitter before throwing a strike. If they did, they would not make it out of the fourth inning. Ever hear of first pitch strike percentage?
Look, I understand this is a video game, and I’m fine with the current online meta. I just think it is too bad that SDS has made moments follow the way people pitch online. If I wanted to take pitches and work the count, I’d be playing ranked.

The ball doesn’t even sound the same off the bat in moments. Lol but I always make it thru. Going in knowing it won’t be rewarding
