PS4 new location, choppy playback
-
Just this weekend I built a new entertainment center; GF didn’t like the visual of devices + wires + books + etc, so bought one with two drawers + two doors (with interior shelving).
Previously PS4 was on the open space suspended in a wire rack, but today it is on one of the shelves of a door.
Ive never really paid attention to the actual temp of the system since it was in the open, but two games today and I found that some of the playback in two recent conquest games has intermittently been choppy.
Internet and everything unchanged, literally just housing location. Any consideration that the PS4 is really just getting hot and that’s impacting gameplay? Other than possibly elevating the system so it’s off the shelf, anything else I should consider?
If it matters, system is the only thing on that shelf, and space is 22” long x 8” tall x 17” deep.
Appreciate any feedback + experience.

Wired or wifi?
Wifi, but that’s been the same all year as well. Only played for 1-2 hours so not really a large sample size to further test heat.

There’s your answer; wifi is bad for online gaming anyway, but being enclosed your signal is even less reliable

I’m so stupid….this is the first apartment my router and system have been in the same room, much less literally next to each other. I’ve not had any issues with wireless so let it run it, but there’s no reason I don’t have them hard wired now.
I’ll plug this up tomorrow and see how it goes.

This.

It could definitely be the heat as well. If it is in a spot were the heat cannot escape then the system will start intaking the same heat it is letting out. Throttling your CPU and causing stuttering. Definitely get it some airflow whether it is the internet or not.

Plugged in my Ethernet finally last night and definitely still experienced some lag/choppiness in the video…..I’ll cut out the back panel so that’s complete open and give it another go.
