Sinkers and 2 seamers switched this year...

Anyone notice the overwhelming trend this year: Pitchers that had a Sinker in their arsenal last year now have 2 Seamers instead and those that had 2 Seamers throw Sinkers?
The Sinker is my least favorite fastball so pitchers I used heavily last year affected by this, it really is a pet peave for me.

I know in real life Mize throws a 2-seam not a sinker but in the game his primary is a sinker.

According to baseball savant, he throws a sinker 22.3% of the time and doesn't throw a 2 seamer.

I'm gonna be honest here and I might get some hate from some baseball purists.. but with some pitchers in real life, I really can't tell the difference between a 2seamer or a sinker. That's how identical they look sometimes. I see a guy throw a ball that drops so hard and its labeled a 2seamer. Then I see a guy throw a fastball that only moves in but hardly breaks down and they call it a sinker.

According to my years of experience as a MLB pitching coach (and side Google search), the main difference is how the pitcher throws it (angle, wrist action) as the grip is the same. I’ve always seen the 2 seamer as a fastball that tails to the pitchers weak side and the sinker with more of a 30+ degrees drop

Edit: to add, Glavine definitely lived off the 2 seamer on the outside corner vs RH hitters; this and the 6 inches black of the plate

Yeah I know the grips and techniques behind it, it's just weird that when a pitcher is known to have a 2seamer in his arsenal and he throws a pitch that drops a ton and is clearly a sinker, it's still being labeled as a 2seamer just because he's not known to throw a sinker. If that makes sense.

He's said in postgame interviews this season he doesn't throw a sinker its a 2-seamer but who knows maybe he just doesnt classify it as a sinker
