Usually the POTM lightning card is something that would benefit even the players who spend the most money.
Semien is "meh" at best. If you completed TA2, Jackie, the AL, or hell April Topps Now Ryan McMahon, you have a better 2nd basemen. Top things off with his horrible swing, and you get a mixed bag of "bad". This isn't a knock so much on the player, but that SDS could have done much more with Semien. I mean, come on, he had a .702 SLG for June and his power is this low? Very disappointed, if you give him 115/100 C 100/110 P with 80 fielding, hes passable.
Regarding the rest of the program, aside from pitching, I don't think anyone else makes even the most basic of rosters. Hell, Jessie Winker is actually worse than his LS version.
Free content, I know, but I feel like SDS held back alot with this one.
I said the same about Semien and people felt to attacked. Glad some people still look at things objectively.
You said “Semien is buns” basically just because he doesn’t make your god squad and had never used him more than moments or one online game at most. I think a lot of us are sick of the people who come on here and do that after every [censored] content drop. “Not for a god squad, he sucks.” Hell now it’s… “he’s not better than a CAP.” You also said Justin Turner at 2B was better.
Winker is better than his LS. He’s not just a platoon now. Again just because YOU use him as a platoon doesn’t make it bad for someone who wants to use him in their lineup to get a usable version.
Also there is a lot of people who like Semiens swing. Just stop making it sound like your OPINION is a one-all be-all. We all know everyone plays better or worse with certain cards so stop whining when it’s not a card for you.

I wasn't whining, I expressed my opinion and I stand by it. I do think Turner is better than Semien. I also do think that LS Winker is better than this one, but I only say that because you brought it up because I didn't say anything about that card. But if you disagree with my opinion, that's totally okay. No need to turn hostile towards me though, you could also just say "hey look man I disagree with your statement I actually like him a lot". And then I would say okay man cool, glad he works out for you. But people like you always seem to get offended for some reason, idk what it is. Just know that my thread about Semien didn't hurt anybody, so relax buddy.

I’m not offended. Again, just annoyed with the “not a god squad he’s buns” every single day there’s content. That’s not what opening a discussion is… that’s bashing a card (before even trying it) and saying it in way that your opinion is a fact.

Its funny the complaining about a free program that gives you options. You don’t have to use them if you don’t want to and yeah if you have “the” god quad, you can’t expect SDS to give a better 2B, 3B, CF and whatnot to replace Jackie/Chipper/Trout
Expectations are way too high for some of you. I’m sure the beginners of the game, struggling to put a team together are happy with getting a top 3 player at his position where the quality is very thin for basically free just for grinding
You've missed the point. Several TA2 cards (Isaac Paredes, Robert Pauson) and Ryan McMahon are already better options at 2nd base even if you don't have the collections mentioned.
Semien should have been much better, this is the point I'm making. He out played the card they gave him, add to that they absolutely butchered Winker.

Paredes, Puason and McMahon are better??? Really? Even if you’re right (which clearly you’re not), it’s highly debatable and not at all as clear cut as you make it out to be.
I would even go as far as to say that 90% of the player base would disagree that those three players you mentioned aren’t as good as Semien is

I guess I do not use the "He did not make my roster so its a bad card...' to determine whether or not the rewards are worth it. When you consider all the content that is being tossed our way -- especially the incredible cards that are available in TA S2...I am not surprised that cards I have earned aren't making my roster. We are talking about teams that are loaded wtih 93+ ovr cards. I was happy with the relieve pitch for May rewards.

Give me your reasoning and maybe I’ll agree
I'll start with Semien. Initial input is that I do not like his swing, a lot of right handers have bad swings and it ruins their card (see Alfonso Soriano). Low vision means he is going to have a smaller timing window on HoF. Great contact ability vs RHH which is nice, and some good pop vs lefties. But again all of this is hindered by his low vision (going to get a few more ks) + bad swing. Defense doesn't really matter at 2B but he would have elite D, decent speed. Its a decent card, but I believe firmly that there are several better.
I'll concede to Paredes after looking into him deeper, id play Semien over Paredes.
Robert Pauson is my starting 2B over everyone but Jackie (need two more 42 series cards). Switch hitter with a fantastic swing, probably my favorite player from TA2. Elite speed, elite defense, plus a great contact ability with his decently high vision and contact attributes. Factor in his low power numbers and he becomes a bloop machine and is less prone to hard line outs like Semien vs RHP (High contact median power results in more line Drives). These factors are what drives me to play him over Semien.
McMahon, I firmly believe he has the best available swing in the game, it just works, its quick and like Mondesi in years past, seems to have a hidden "boost" to power, can't really explain that without SDS fully breaking down everything. McMahon already has better vision so therefore its going to give him a bit better timing and he will foul off some tough pitches Semien might miss. His high power/lower contact numbers mean he will get more balls in the air to compensate for a lack of balls in play. In short hes going to hit more HRs.
-
It is inevitable when they are releasing so many good cards so early that some cards will be introduced that are not as good as what came before. Semien does not need to be the best 2B in the game. Some times it is enough to be the best Semien in the game, or the best Blue Jay 2B in the game.
Many people, especially offline only players, will play cards of players that they are fans of or enjoy using. I use the Adam Wainwright reliever as my closer in offline games (I don't play online). He is not my highest rated closer but I am a fan of the player and his team and I enjoy using that card. I will probably use Semien for a while because I don't have all the TA cards and I have not done particularly well with the Ryan McMahon card.

I disagree, I think the lack of the split makes him rather mediocre. Plus several better cards are available, his LS makes the platoon squad, but this doesn't do anything. A lot of people aren't willing to sacrifice the platoon for a mediocre offensive card.

Good analysis. I can give you both because your reasoning makes sense.
I wasn’t going to debate you much on Puason. Switch hitting is a big plus. Add in elite defense/speed and you’ve got yourself a great leadoff/8th hitter. I just don’t have any appeal for these blooper guys. Seems like I either line out with them of get shallow flyballs. I can’t hit any bloopers and prefer having game breaker players wherever I can.
McMahon I see where you’re coming from. I absolutely rake with his card but once I play on HOF or legend, I want my PCI to be as big as possible. My PCI placement is above average I’d say (hitting around .330 lifetime) so I don’t care much for vision but I want to put the ball in play more. So the 125 CON vs righties for me is huge. Plus he has the speed to score from first on a ball to the gap
I mean it all depends on how we view things I guess. It’s moot for me anyways cause I just played one RS game with Semien on HoF (2 for 3 with a bomb) before discovering the “42” cards had tanked. So I finished the set to get Jackie
-
I'm refusing to use Jackie this year simply because he plays every year at 2B for me. 3 staples to my lineup every year in and out, Posada, Jackie, Griffey. Ever since 17 I've had all of these guys for most of the year, I'm just bored with him.
But yeah man I appreciate the comments. Always enjoy a good discussion.

Well I mean I always try and look at things objectively and others obviously do the same. I wouldn’t expect anyone to tell me why a certain card is better and neither should you. I just enjoy seeing and understanding the reasoning for some people. There are plenty of good cards for many different people.
No reason to blast anyone over their preferences. It’s their game and their squad.
Yeah played some guy in RS last night. Had Buxton, Lofton, Dee Strange-Gordon and Billy Hamilton. Didn’t take long for me to figure out his plan. But hey if he enjoys it, more power to him. I don’t understand but whatever.

Thats where I slap bunt defense on and love the 2B in, doesn't stand a chance.

Yeah that was a given, but then he would steal/bunt and try to take third so I would immediately throw to 3B and cut him off. He just ran himself into so many outs. He quit in the 6th when I was going up by 5 after Dante hit a pinch hit bomb that never counted cause the guy dashboarded

Not everyone has a super amazing team with the highest rated cards at every position. Semien is more than good enough to make my starting lineup right now, and I’m looking forward to this weekend when I have time to dive into the program.

I’m really digging him so far. He single handedly whooped my azz in an RS game with 2 bombs. I smacked a few with him. Groshans to the bench baby
