One of the most unreal second halves I've seen. In 2008 the Brewers went all in to try to make the playoffs for the first time since 1982. They traded their top prospect at the time Matt LaPorta and prospect Michael Brantley (who obviously has turned out to have a pretty good career) - but it was oh so worth the few month rental of Sabathia to carry us to our first playoffs since '82.

Dude was a workhorse. Pitched 130 innings (sometimes going back out there on a couple days rest). Went 11-2, and had 128 Ks with a 1.65 ERA (7 complete games, 125 stamina anyone?) - just in the second half. If that doesn't deserve a second half card, idk what does?! As you can tell, I'm obviously a huge Brewers fan but this would be a great, well deserving, card.

Think we would have seen CC by now if they had the rights...I agree though would be an awesome card. Although it would suck playing against him.

Wasn't there a signature series Sabathia in '19? I think I remember that. 3,000K card if I remember correctly.

I remember that run. I always loved CC (even as a Sox fan) and that run was amazing to watch even with no personal emotional investment.

I do miss the days of that veteran CC with the brewers...even as a yankee fan always was confused the brewers CC was lower than yankees CC

A Brewers 2nd half CC would be great! He’d have to be a 99 overall! Dude was unhittable!!

    That was a special time!
I think CC homered a couple of times, as well.
I like the Indians a lot, as a Met fan, and dug CC there, when he first came up, so I was happy to see his success with the Brews. That would be a nice card.

CC was out of his mind during that stretch. I remember that. I’m a Yankees fan. So obviously he gets the big New York contract after that. He pitched well for the Yanks but I don’t recall a stretch like he had in Milwaukee. That was greatness

The only player in recent history I can think of that had as monster of a second half would be JD Martinez when he got traded from Detroit to Arizona as a 2nd half/playoff rental

He did hit a dong and 2 doubles (11 total hits) during that stretch. I think they even used him as a pinch hitter a time or two when they were running out of bench guys late in game.
