Meh.. he had an MVP sure, though it's one he shouldn't have won.. but other than that, he was kind of overrated. I'd go Vernon or Joe Carter over him. Joe for his postseason heroics, Vernon for his 5 tool game..
Josh Donaldson in his first 2 years as a Jay produced the same WAR George Bell did in a decade lol
WAR is all well and good, but this is the Mount Rushmore list. For me, these have to be the ones who not only contributed greatly but also at critical times. Jose Bautista had a great run but several of his best years were on also-ran teams. In contrast, Joe Carter came over in the 'blockbuster trade' pre-1991 and went on to post 4 consecutive 100+ RBI seasons while being a big part of the clubhouse 'glue' of the Jays team that won 3 division titles and 2 WS titles in that 4 year span. YES it matters!!!!
So your reasoning is Joe Carter just so happened to be lucky to play on a stacked team and Jose didn't?
The other reason is RBI? Lol
Joe Carter didn't win those titles. In fact, he's easily the 5th most valuable player on that '93 team. Alomar, Olerud, Molitor, and White were far better. .300 OBP's don't exactly help teams that much.
Joe was probably 4th on his '92 team too. Alomar, Winfield and Devon White being better.Bautista did everything in his power to try, and save for one year where JD won mvp, he was always the most valuable on the teams he played for.

I think if he was introduced before a game, the place he might get the most positive reaction would be Houston, even though he only played there a couple years. He won a CY there and is from Texas. Yankee fans seem like they dont care about him at all, so more indifference than like/dislike.

Na, Jays fans are indifferent for the most part.
It made us upset that he wanted out of here, and we only got David Wells back (who we do hate, as he hates us too) but at least we got 2 of Rocket's best years. They were insanely dominant.
That first season in particular. Wow.. 12 WAR pitching season is one of the all time great years -

Not at all. He's remembered as a Blue jay great and one of the best hitters the Jays ever had. An elite on base machine with more homeruns than anyone during a 6 year stretch.
Joe Carter hit a big homerun. Any knowledgeable Jays fan knows what he was besides that. A low on base complementary slugger with huge flaws in his game. Not the star of any Jays team. The end.Btw, the Jays will be adding Jose to the level of excellence when they return to RC. This has been known for some time now.

Carl YastrzemskiI can’t argue with any of those names, but it’s soooooo tough. Clemens, Rice, Speaker, Boggs, etc all are tough to leave off. Plus if you get into the guys who just didn’t last long enough (Nomar, Manny (seriously his numbers were crazy), Pedroia to name a few recent ones).
Semi related: I love this type of thing, really makes me appreciate baseball... then again I’ve probably sat through the Ken Burns documentary 5-7 times and could happily do so another 10, so maybe it’s just me.

That's interesting. I was going by all the polls and discussions I've seen. The last Boston area poll I saw for greatest Red Sox player had Clemens 16th and Boggs 9th. Good to know though, thanks.
As for the last sentence, I'm a Brewers fan, not Yankees. I just love Babe Ruth, lol.
