I think it's being aimed more toward casual players than years past. They want a bigger fan base and for somebody like me who can only make time to play an average of 1-2 hours a day I can say that you aren't getting the LS collection done already unless you play a lot more than 1-2 a day or paying over $1000 in real money. I'm trying to get just the A.L done and still haven't gotten there. To those saying it's super easy to aquire every top card already.... you are full of [censored] and you know you have to grind your [censored] off to get all the LS players done already. Some of you guys that's only purpose in life is to play video games 8 hours a day take that for granted and also get whiny when you see others at the same point as you already. I'm glad it's not super difficult to aquire a good team because I can't play enough to have a God squad like some, but I can still compete with them. There are all different types of players out there with different schedules and most of have a life outside of videogames and kudos to SDS for making a more level playing field... it's nice being able to work, have a family, a house to take care of and still be able to log on a couple hours at night and still enjoy online matchups.

Yall do understand that everyone gets a trophy nowadays right and if they don't it's rrreaaaccccciiissssttt

Not to pile on, but I will. The games watered down. I’ve said this before, there’s nothing special about any of it this year so far. Maybe it’ll change, but I doubt it. No one can achieve something without making sure everyone can get it. In years past, there were cards that meant something, it meant you were either 1) better than most, or b) spent more than most. Each option was fine and each option had its pros and cons, but at then end of the day, it was a special card. I remember in 17 (or maybe it was 18, they’ll all blur together) the only way you were getting Chipper was a long [censored] grind, and those that got him, felt a sense of some major accomplishment. Now, just play 15-20 mins a day and you can get it because SDS will make sure no ones special. Need more XP, here’s 50k for collecting a card that’s worthless and only takes 15 mins of moments. You can’t make WS? Here, go win/gimmick your way to 40 wins or wait 2-3 weeks and it’ll be dirt cheap so everyone can have it.
It’s the ultimate participation trophy collection game. I used to wait in massive anticipation for each new ranked season to see what special card I might want to work my [censored] off for, now, meh, I’ll wait two weeks, try it out and then face it in every game I play online. Events? Not worth the effort anymore, cards are barely exciting and it’s turns into whoever can cheese/gimmick/glitch their way to the top level the quickest, wins, sort of.
It’s all too watered down now. I can load up a RS game, close my eyes, and wait till 4 pitches in and pretty much guess my opponents lineup, starting pitcher, and pitch count with about 90% accuracy. Where’s the excitement? I don’t know, ask SDS, they’re caving just like their mentor Manfred. It’s a race to the bottoms at this point. I sure do hope and pray something changes soon.
Grinds are a terrible example. What we actually miss are event exclusive 12 and 0 diamonds, 21 and 0 br diamonds etc

My take away from all that..... If Joey Gallo and David Ortiz are bunting against you consider yourself lucky.

I don't know, the gameplay is ok, but I feel like something is missing. Maybe because I don't think is an accurate representation of baseball. Having to worry about your pitcher having a sinker/cutter is weak. Not to mention that it gets tiring hitting sinkers and cutters. The way those pitches move is silly and defy the laws of physics.
Contact hitters once again being useless. You're better off always having players with 80+ power. Anything less and is a fly out machine. Playing 80% of the away games at Shippet stadium for three years straight is frankly tiring. Same old animations and graphics as the last few years. Definitely doesn't feel like a next gen game. They still haven't be able to fix bunting... Joey Gallo and David Ortiz shouldn't be bunting for a hit opposite of the shift without an issue... that is straight up silly.
Any pitch that isn't a Sinker, Cutter, Slider, has to be used as a surprised pitch. Good luck throwing a 2 seamer or a Curve in this game. Elite power pitchers like Gerrit Cole are still right down useless.
Hitters shouldn't be fouling off pitches 10 inches off the plate because the player pressed contact swing with two strikes. Incredibly silly.
Pitcher's motion are still stiff as hell... pitchers new all their animations wipe out and replaced with today's technology to the arm looks smooth when they bend it.
Maybe I can't longer ignore the gameplay issues. These days I'm still I'm having more fun grinding or trying to get a card than actually playing. Back in The Show 16, I could make World Series with a bunch of platoon gold players because Diamonds were hard to come by. Now in the first week, live players are already useless... they're literally there as a tool to do collections now. Back then, having Lindor or Gerrit Cole would have meant something. Topps card should be Gold and Silver. Diamonds should be extremely rare or a very hard grind. This would encourage people to have different teams, instead of the same Diamond Players.
Seriously considering uninstalling and I got this one free with gamepass.
Last time I checked this was an “ultimate team mode” and you have the choice who you want on your team. If you want to be a sheep and have a team like everyone else then that’s your choice. (I mean I know HOF and Legend you need certain stats on cards so I get the cookie cutter squads there). I pitch with Cole. He’s my 5-7. Maybe you play to much online. Go play the CPU on HOF or Legend it is really enjoyable
-
It is a very difficult balancing act.
FIFA is always criticised for having certain players basically unobtainable.I am new to the show and surprised how my team is already rated over 90. In Fifa after a month it would be about 85 rating and would still be using mainly gold cards.
Here is a tip for you guys, make different squads of individual teams. That way you get to play with many different players. Otherwise it is no good complaining about everyone having the same team when yours is the same too.
Today I am going to play with a cardinals team, tomorrow I will try another, it keeps it fresh
-
I just wish they would bring back online franchise so I could play with my buddies and do fantasy drafts. Would have another game mode besides diamond dynasty to play. Also hate playing the CPU

Preach.
Its like this every year, and just like every year population will dwindle. Almost nothing changed from previous version (gameplay, graphics etc). They added PPP. Thats all in past few years.
Between bunt cheese, r2 spammers, and Allstar as default for RS games (should be HoF) it gets difficult to want to play this game. I only play RS, cant stand doing griding vs Cpu
-
Its a different game than back before Diamond Dynasty was such a huge focus, and that appealed to many...
BUT -
We didnt get year round content for free, tons of new cards for free, and nonstop activities. Its an impossible task to make the game simulation perfect but a fun video game.
There are times when ive gotten frustrated. When the game wasnt fun, i put it down, or switched to one of the other modes. It was good advice, that ive taken.
Diamond Dynasty is the one we all want to be good at, but lets be honest, most of us dont have the time or ability. That doesnt make the game bad, it just makes the situation a difficult one to accept. Find a difficulty level that is fun and retreat to that when sinkers burn you out.
The skill gap is real and thats a good thing. (A whole post in itself) Even if you are on the wrong side of it.....
-
This game has been by far my favorite show game yet. I’d say in 99.9% of the ranked games I’ve played this year, skill was the main factor in the outcome of the game.

Been saying for years SDS is going the way of EA and 2K with their pathetic cash grabs, I have the PS5 and can assure you this is def not a next gen game, just a port with the same old bs features, although for some dumb reason you actually CANT add your own music like years past.
To the other poster mentioning diamonds I agree, they should have just upped golds to 90 and anything 90+ is diamond. All these sheep and losers buy into this bs every year.
-
It's insanely annoying playing the same team every game. The contact swing issue is huge right now. But even before that it felt like every game was just a homer fest. That's mostly due to the ratings boosts players get.
What they should do is make every game like daily fantasy sports. You get XX amount of dollars/points to make a team from the cards you have earned. This would actually make it much more skill based than it is now because you wont be bailed out by having 93+ diamonds at every position.... This is 100% what they should do but i highly doubt they will ever.
One thing is for sure... it will NEVER be as bad as NBA2K MyTeam. They have trash like 99 overall Shaq who can shoot like Curry and dribble like Kyrie.
-
Best version of this franchise was ‘17. Like......it’s not even close!
-
I have no Idea why everyone on this thread seems to think contact hitters are useless? I think every single player I use that would be labeled a contact hitter is batting over .400
-
Why is it that every time I play a team that has all gold players, and I have all diamonds, my pitchers seam to have no control of their pitches. Even when I get perfect, it misses by 4-5 inches. The gray circle around the ball is the size of a basketball. This is my first year playing this game and I don’t understand how my pitchers can go from having 90+ accuracy to 40%

What he said.
I have SO many Diamonds it's insane.
Everyone should not have a god squad.
I like to think I have a "diverse" team-- I use Ricky Henderson, Roberto Alomar, Kenny Lofton-- cards very few others use.
But since switching to zone hitting, a card like Lofton is worthless. I can't hit the ball on the ground with him. And with no power, amazing cards/players like Lofton, Stan Musial, Johnny Damon, and Tony Gwynn are just hitting weak fly ball outs.
This year is about insane breaking pitches, Byron Buxton, Vlad Jr., Corbin Burns, and Rob Dibble.
The 5,000 other Diamonds seem like they are just window dressing.
I would plotz if someone actually used Diamond Cesar Hernandez, Minnie Minosa, Aparichio, or any 42 Card.Everybody wins this way though, right?
Equality of opportunity AND outcome!
Is this video game "woke"? Hahaha!!! -
How can it be fun, when they connect the RTTS to the DD, but everything you achieve, serves no point. I mean, comeon, I build a guy who is fast as a bullet, but I am watching CPU players with 0 speed run just as fast, if not faster then my guy? Why bother with attributes, when they don't serve any point at all? Same with pitchers. Work to upgrade my player, build his control up high, but then use him on DD, and the guy's pitches are all over the place. Or, hey, let's do moments rated rookie, vet, etc. Yet, they are all the same difficulty. Or better yet, do moments that can't be completed, because the CPU pitcher just throws garbage, so you can't actually achieve them, etc, etc, this game is hot garbage and just a glorified baseball card collecting game, just missing the stick of gum and far more costly, because just another game that wants 70-100 bucks, but thats still not enough for these cockroach game companies.
-
I don't think this get's stated enough but honestly: how many games of baseball can you play before it gets stale anyways? Especially when the offense is anemic.
-
The game is a train wreck at times. It's got a heap of flaws. Completely drives you to the brink of rage. But, must admit, I've put more hours into it in than any other game this year.
Call it the smack of the gaming world. You know it's bad for you, but when you're feeling that Show Jones..you keep coming back. Against every instinct you have in your brain you toggle through that console menu and select The Show 21. The guilt only lasts as long as it takes to have a couple success stories.
