How's your starting rotation doing?
-
Personally, I'm already feeling just a bit overwhelmed in terms of how many good starting pitchers I have in my collection. I've never had this problem so early into the game's life-cycle but with the game coming out late this year, they've obviously had to push out higher overall cards much quicker than years past.
I'm trying to figure out who my five best starters are out of:
Tom Glavine (96)
Haven't used him in a Ranked match yet but I've heard great things about him.Frank Tanana (95)
He's been good in the early going but I feel like he's easier to pick up the more a player sees of him. I'm not sure he'll be in my rotation too much longer.Corbin Burnes (93)
He's like The Show 20's TA3 Orel Hershiser but he can also throw heat. He's easily been my favorite starter so far this year.Michael Kopech (87)
As a White Sox fan, this card has made the early part of this game so enjoyable for me. I missed out on this card in The Show 18 after shelving the game due to a number of issues but man, he's been killin' it for me. The Topps Now Dylan Cease has also been filthy in a small sample size.Jacob deGrom, Gerrit Cole or Chris Sale
I keep trying deGrom because it seems like so many swear by him and he keeps getting lit up for me. I think it's because I use Meter and not Pinpoint pitching but I've had a hard time justifying using him over guys like Chris Sale, Max Scherzer, and even 42 Jose Berrios. Cole is new for me, so I'm still learning to pitch with him. I like his control this year but he kinda has the problem I've always had with him, his delivery isn't deceptive and he gets bashed by good players. -
Glavine, Burnes, Burnett, Hershiser.
5th spot I'm experimenting.
Feller, deGrom who I don't like to use, etc.
Might pick up Fernando -
Glavine, Tanana, Burnes, Burnett, and Chris sale

Tanana degrom burnes Burnett and I bounce around on my 5th. I like 42 Flaherty and Corbin. Didn't like hershiser but love degrom, I use pinpoint and work heavily off his offspeed.

Once you get to the hidden reward path, the 99 Kershaw from 2019 and the 99 Kluber from 20 are def. the play. If you aren't there yet, your credit card rotation is pretty solid for now.

Might pick up FernandoShoot, I totally forgot about Feller. He's been excellent for me, too. His delivery doesn't bother me nearly as much as I thought it would.

Glavine, Tanana, Burnes, Valenzuela, Hershiser
Mainly like guys with good offspeed and control, but Burnes and Tanana are just hard to hit in general so I'll stick with em for a while

Valenzuala
Kopech
Hernandez
Cole
Sanchez -
Sale II, Pedro II, Corbin II, Madison Bumgarner, and Rodon, although my 5th starter spot rotates.
All offline, so far though. -

Sixto would be, but he has too many toes 🤪 I don't do well with him. -
No one on the DL, so all good

Cole, Sale, Burnes, Verlander (personal favorite of mine...I just seem to pitch well with him). Lately I have been testing out Bauer because he gives me fits when people use him against me...just so hard to pick up the rotation. I got Degrom finally two days ago and haven't pitched well with him...maybe I am working off he fastball too much. I blow away hitters in conquest games with him, but online was different.

I've got Valenzuela, Feller, Burnes, Pedro and Verlander.

Degrom has been in my rotation since week 1. I would say you definitely have to work off the slider. His changeup doesn't have the best control, but if you can get his confidence up on that pitch it also works well. The key is to keep people off balance and not throw too many fastballs.
My current rotation is Glavine, Degrom, Burnes, Feller, and 42 Flaherty. My top 4 is solid, but Flaherty can get hit around if the opponent is good at placing his PCI.

I had the 92 Nolan and loved him...Sold him to buy Degrom and now I am deciding whether to learn to use Degrom or go back to cheaper Nolan and have fun throwing all pitches in any situation....knowing the fastball is always there for when you need it.
