So I have learned a valuable lesson

I will never try for collections again. I have grinded this game more than any other MLB Show game I have played. I have NL West, Yankees, Cubs, Pirates, Mariners and Braves. I am not even close to completing. I enjoy RS the most and would have a much better team spending those stubs on players like Brett, Seaver, etc. This is the first time I have tried to do collections before the following February and that seems like the right move. By the time I get Ortiz, Chipper and Soriano, there will be other viable options. For instance, for the price of Acuna who doesn't even play for me, I could have had 3-4 really good players for my RS squad.
Always said you need to spend money, flip the market, win 12 games in BR or get lucky with pulls. I despise flipping. I would rather scratch my eyes out. I am probably up to 1,000 packs total and have pulled 7 diamonds. One got me 20k stubs and the other 6 around 15k or less.
This isn't a hate thread but more a reminder to people who like to play RS but want to do collections. It is not worth it if you do not qualify in one of those groups I mentioned above. I feel like all the grinding I have done for collections did nothing but set my RS team back a great deal. Way too many LS cards that are ridiculous in price.
-
I hate to say it but I think you're right. I just want Soriano but so many cards not worth there price. For example, Mookie Betts. Great player IRL but not worth the stubs. Perfect defense with mediocre hitting stats. Arenado another one. Degrom too. Even Bellinger not worth the stubs.
-
Truth is collections are only viable for those who spend money or are market masters. If you are NMS you will never get there before those top tier players are mid pack. Last year I worked from home so had tons of time, I got Mantle in like June I think, and I rarely play RS which will only take time away from grinding.
This year I wouldn't even bother. The Big 3 are cards I've used before, nothing new for me. Buy yes those of you RS guys really shouldn't bother, in fact this year getting 40 wins a season will get you WS reward, that is huge for acquiring better cards to use in RS.
To sum up, unless you want to spend money or play the market game, collections are not the way to improve your RS team.

70k for Tatis? I mean come on the National league costs 980k alone that is absolutely ridiculous. I have to agree with you it's just not worth it.

It's really not that bad, don't ever buy packs and you'll get it. I'm only the dodgers away from completing them all, and i've spent no money in the game.

I agree with this. I start and finish each DD session with about 20 minutes on the market. Clear out the previous day’s orders, put up about 50+ new ones, and do the same before I shut down for the night. I bought Trout a week after release as my first real purchase (since I wanted to parallel him ASAP), and last week I finished the LS collection after liquidating some duplicate unlockables and such.

You had to have got some good pulls. I have done U.S. conquest and alien conquest, all TA's, both events to the fullest, made WS and 40 wins, went 12-1 in BR for Cole and did both BR programs. I am not even close. Before today, I had only purchased one 10 pack. Purchased another today because without a good pull it will take me forever. Decided that 15k wouldn't matter unless I pull something really good. Worth the risk even though I have never pulled a card worth more than 70k and that was Sale probably 4 years ago. I could pull Trout and still wouldn't have enough to complete collections. Probably put me one division from it.
All this doesn't even take into account the new additions to the 40 man that are a thousand stubs or don't even have cards. Reds have a card that has zero buy orders. Bronze that is 12 deep at $2500. SDS needs to do a better job with these cards.

Stubs are going somewhere if you've done all that and obviously not going to collections. Focus one team at a time and you'll get through it. Trust the process

The problem this year is collections don’t give out XP and the stubs payout is ridiculously low

Yeah I agree with this, as well as with the idea of not doing the collection in future. I'm treading water with them and honestly wish I hadn't locked in some of the few valuable cards I have pulled. Some cards I'm not going to play with and I would rather now just unlock them and sell them if I could. I'm not really fussed about the LS collections this year at all. Having said that, I've pulled hardly anything valuable (except Trout but he's in the lineup) so I wouldn't make much even if I could sell them off.

Oh, they are going. 370k for Trout at the time. Probably around 250k for the Braves, 280k for the dodgers, 150k for the yankees. I have now done the Yankees, Braves, NL West and NL Central. These collections are super expensive. Really the only super expensive one I have left is the NL East with the Mets and Nats.

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say of those 1000 packs you opened, most of them were bought with stubs. Why not just buy the players you need instead of wasting stubs on this games version of a scratch ticket? This is probably an easier grind than previous years because they pretty much give away stubs and packs, This is the fastest I've ever done collections and i only need about 10 diamonds to finish the LS. Grinding for Trout, Betts, Cole and DeGrom and a few low cost diamonds now.

You had to of flipped cards.
He stated he’d rather scratch his eyes out than flip cards. -
RS is just a money stack roster, people are gonna have team full of guys 90-99 in a month and just jack pitches, where as us grinders are getting eaten alive so you pretty much gotta have $$$ in the game to compete with some teams... my team is a 82/85 overall pending lineups but ive lsot so many games to 2....3 ...4 runs just by 1 pitch with a 8 man roster of 95-99 players its unfair....SDS take my CC and hustle my $$ cuz its a cash grab
-
This is the first year I finished collections and that’s because I flipped like crazy, got Trout in a TA free pack (but I could have got him anyway) and sold everything I got along the way. Would do it again. I enjoyed it.

Not really sure how many packs I have opened between show, ballin and TA but it is a ton. I have only bought 20 packs.
Now, I could sell Fernandez and Hershiser and finish some more teams but I just reached 974 in RS and have a 2.77 era. I have won 5 straight legend games so guess I can play with who I have but it would sure be nice having Chipper, Ortiz and Jackie. Still using Musgrove and Pedro in starting rotation. I was just stating a point that collections are extremely hard if you don't do the things I mentioned earlier. I would have a better team had I not done collections.
I am currently sitting at 15k stubs and still have all of the AL central and most of the NL east, AL west and AL east to do. I am guessing I still need 300k for all of those at least. I just bought a 10 pack today as I figured I might as well give it a shot. Got nothing but at this point that 15k wouldn't do me any good right now. Need Glavine but that NL East is expensive with DeGrom.
