Do these Devs watch baseball?

After these updates I’m convinced these developers don’t watch baseball other than ESPN highlights. If someone thinks otherwise please let me have it. I beg you. But how does a hurt Buxton get a +1, Kershaw (2.62 ERA) gets a -1, Baez (.252 BA) gets a +1 which puts him an attribute higher than Kris Bryant who is outperforming him in almost every hitting category and plays multiple positions, Adam Frazier (.299 BA) can’t even sniff a +1, Civale is 5-0 with a 2.91 but don’t you even dare think about upgrading him, and Means...sweet 8lb 6oz 23 inch long baby Jesus the man is 4-0 with a 1.21 ERA and can’t get upgraded to a gold...I mean I must be missing something here but I could go on and on about how 90% of these updates make zero sense if you actually watch baseball...not to mention the crazy quick diamond to gold hooks on Abreu and Lindor.
Oh the irony! "Do the Devs watch baseball?" Do you watch thier streams? If you did you would know that one of the main guys that works on gameplay was in AAA with Trevor Hoffman! He's probabally forgot more about baseball than you even know about the game! Gil is a genius programmer!
I love the irony too.
‘The devs need to spend more time watching baseball’.
‘Have the devs ever played baseball?’
Right after ‘If the devs spent more time fixing the game and less time watching and playing baseball…’
Also, didn’t Gameplay Director Gill play for the Reds?
Admittedly though, gameplay and roster updates would be different people.

They probably have an algorithm set up where stats get input and it spits out a number. I’m sure nobody needs to watch baseball (I’m sure they do)

Bingo..
They may scan the results and make tweaks here and there but, in the end, their methodology is far more objective than anyone who has complained in this thread, most of whom are either fans of the players or someone who heavily invested in a player that did not get an upgrade.

If their 3 year average is a rolling one, like say May 12th 2018 to May 12th 2021, that may explain the fluctuations that don’t reflect the most recent past, i.e. last 2 weeks. Lindor has been on a steady ratings decline starting last year and has had bad IE most of the time this year, so him going gold is not surprising. His OPS+ in 2019 and 20 have been on the decline and so have this year to start. ISO, walks all declining. It makes me wonder how much weight 20 has on that scale.

I am definitely guilty lol. No denying that. I wasn’t trying to cause any disputes. I really only checked to see if my investments paid off (one did Edman and the other didn’t Frazier) and then got to looking at other upgrades and started to see some flaws that got me rattled especially being a no money spent guy and a baseball fan lol. Like anyone watching baseball right now knows Lindor is starting to pick it back up and is without a doubt one of the best SS in the game right now. But to a computer that is based off algorithms and strictly statistics he isn’t performing to a diamond standard. I can totally get on board with it. But then you have Frazier who consistently hits better than average seem to get completely ignored. So on one end you have Lindor get downgraded based off of stats and on the other hand you have Frazier who has the stats not get upgraded. It just kind of stinks is all!

Lol just because you made it to a certain level and played with an all time great doesn’t mean you automatically know more than someone. What if said person was super talented and didn’t pay any attention to anyone besides himself or what his role was at the time? I have played with plenty of people who if they were a pitcher could careless about what responsibilities the hitters/position players had. All they cared about was their specific role and doing that role well. Granted I’m sure that’s not the case because AAA is no joke but to use that as a reason for why someone may know more than someone else is slightly ridiculous. I mean I played baseball for 25 years, played against solid competition at the D1 level, and know a number of professional baseball players. But I know for a fact there are definitely loads of people out there with far less experience that know way more than me.
No more rediculous than you assuming devs don't watch baseball!
I would bet a dollar to donut you made this thread b/c you spent the last week investing in one player and that player didn't get upgraded and you felt the need to blame the devs. This aint my first rodeo!

I already said that was partially the case. I invested in two players one was a success and one was not...even though the one that wasn’t upgraded has been on a terror and definitely deserved to go up at least +1. And just because you previously played a sport doesn’t mean you still watch it or keep up with it. Bo Jackson doesn’t watch football anymore but played it for years. Obviously this is a much different scenario because he isn’t a developer but there are ex players that don’t care for the game that they once loved. I didn’t blame the developers for anything I just questioned how they go about making their upgrades because to me it felt as if they didn’t even watch the last two weeks of baseball. With all the server errors as of late I’m sure most of the developers were busy and focused on more important aspects and accidentally let one slide through the cracks. I’ll cash in next update! Keep your dollar and donut my good friend. Share it with the developers and tell them to watch some
Pirates games. -
The roster updates every two weeks based of a different timelines stats. The last 2 weeks isn’t really where Buxton earned his boost, it’s from like 5-21 days ago while he was earning his POTM. ALL of the April POTM cards just got juiced in mid May.

I really only started truly investing in cards this year but have played the game religiously since 16. I understand the market but I am still trying to figure out exactly how they go about with the updates. Thanks for the input!

Pirates games. It's fine, i'm just pointing out you could be more tactful when selecting title for a thread. Rather than saying devs don't watch baseball. Then go on a rant about cards that did or didn't get an upgrade. You can discuss what you want i'm just saying show some tactfulness when doing it. Otherwise it come across differently when reading.

Which is exactly why they have to do a little bit of maneuvering themselves. If it was down to an exact science there would be a YouTube page or post on this forum telling you exactly which cards are going which way all the time and everyone would have 5,000,000 stubs.
If you want an alternate option, buy cards like Nolan Arrenado and others when there -5 on IE and sell him a day or so later when he’s +5 on IE. Devin Williams another example.
Another option is to buy cards like the topps now that are currently coming out when they are low (now and the next week or two) and sell them when the POTM comes out. The few hundred thousand I made is nothing compared to some people who made millions without even trying.
Bet on lazy people, not MLB players.

I only said in my OPINION I am convinced they don’t...my conviction was based on the evidence I found and researched. Just because I say that I’m convinced doesn’t mean they actually don’t. They are developers of a baseball game for crying out loud. From MY perspective it seems as if they don’t and more so just plug numbers into a computer and watch the algorithms fly but MY perspective can be wrong. It can also change or otherwise be convinced based off of new found evidence or principles. But instead of providing me with any of that like some kind gentleman on here have done all of a sudden you come in here accusing me of not knowing anything about baseball when you have no idea who you are talking to or what knowledge that person may possess. So maybe both sides should have used more tactfulness in this case?
