Brilliant post and I completely agree with everything you've said. I absolutely love RTTS and and main liner it every year. This year I was intrigued by the idea of a two way player especially playing in the NL. I decided to create a SS for my Yankees because Torres is not the future SS.
I really enjoyed playing every fifth day as a SP and then every other day playing as SS. Both loadouts were progressing really well and I was doing some damage at the plate even with equipment bonuses not working. I finally got called up to the bigs and even though I knew I couldn't DH the same day I was pitching I was already thinking long term about a switch to the NL.
Finally the day came where we were playing on the road at the Braves and I was starting pitcher. A light bulb went off in my head as I started at the loadout selection screen, I can only select one loadout so what happens to all of my insane hitting attributes in game. The answer was the end to the last remaining bit of immersion, my guy steps up to the plate and has 50 contact and 50 power base attributes as opposed to close to 100 in each for my hitter loadout. My SS is the best hitter in the league and here I am at the plate having suffered temporary amnesia and have forgotten how to hit.
1-3 at the plate on the day with my only hit being a grounder in the gap to get a single. Also had a perfect prefect die at the warning track, if it had of been my SS it would've gone a mile.
I don't know how this made it through testing, simple solution is being able to activate 2 loadouts for games - one hitter and one pitcher.

Hey! Exactly similar to my post. The loadouts. Same base stats for each save is so bad. I want multiple completely different players all starting from the bottom. Getting rid of that because of DD tie in is the worst decision they ever made. Also the 2 way player they had to make loadouts for it to work. Sigh.
-
I don’t know if it is possible, but perhaps instead of My (only) Ball Player they could make it My (current) Ball Player, so we could cycle through different player builds with different positions or pitches?

In a live stream today SDS said this year MyBallPlayer and RTTS are laying foundation for the years to come...
I asked them 2 questions regarding loadouts and having more than one player in that thread following the stream. https://forums.theshow.com/topic/34259/following-twitch-stream-rtts-plans
I hope they'll answer them...

Them stating they are just laying the foundation of what to come is scarier. Means it could get worse but I will have hope.

I should not be paying for future product. I paid for this year’s game and have every right to expect it to work THIS YEAR.

You need a way to be able to call your agent instead of waiting for his yearly one call.
This is a frustrating oversight specifically, IMO. If we're going to have locked positions based off our current loadout, we need to be able to request a position change whenever we want to be start working on a new archetype without having to start a new career.
I get your point but it's a "Maybe" for me as doing that would take even more realism away... I can't imagine a 1B in real-life converting to CF overnight...
However, if they plan on keeping the universal Ballplayer it's probably a good idea... Starting over in AA with a player that has all its base attributes maxed out isn't realistic at all... So... If they keep this feature, they already allow us to change our player's attributes overnight, so it make sense that we could change position... I mean of you want to build something unrealistic, go All-In with it!
I think the best way would be to revert to the old mechanism. You can build different players for different purpose and "live" different career paths. Take RTTS 2020 and add the choice to be 2Way player would be pretty good. Make sure to ask only one time at the start though...
I'd get rid of the Loadouts, but it would require a lot of rework which is impossible to ask as an update on a yearly released game.
I have hopes for 2022, can't wait for SDS to confirm their intentions with RTTS....
Why not Bellinger plays 1B and OF with like 75+speed

If you keep the same skill set at every position, I'm ok with it... 2nd position were in the game prior years and versatility is a key part of baseball.
My point was that it's mind boggling that one day I'm a slow power hitter and the next and a Speedy defender that can bunt for hit... Play me at another position or ask me if I want to try a new position, that's great! But I should come with my attributes, my strengths and my flaws. I should not be able to change 2 cards and now be the best in the league at that position.
But anyway, since they said yesterday that this is "the foundation" of future RTTS iterations, if they keep loadouts and if we're stuck with ONE player without the ability to start over, might as well have complete liberty and let us change position at every game depending on how we feel...
That game was supposed to be a simulation built for realism and was advertised as such but we got an arcade game mode built for fun and instant gratification. That's why I'm angry at SDS... They should have said what they took away from the mode in the feature premiere instead of hiding everything and only talk about a podcast that 80% of players skip as fast as they skip ads on YouTube...

Great post totally agree with you about being able to contact your Agent. It was something you used to be able to do. Hate that you have to wait the one two times a year they contact you. And like yourself I am also an older MLB the show player (59). Been at it since day 1

Ok I understand you a bit more now... totally agree that stats shouldn't change based on position changes

Great post. Unfortunately SDS doesn't read these forums or listen to their fans. They say they do. But they really don't. RTTS has been turned into just another gateway mode to get people into playing DD. People for years have been asking for a more realistic mode. Interviews, player personality, agnets, making contracts mean something etc. Instead we get this garbage. Whoever came up with this stupid perk/loadout system, should have been fired In fact anyone involved with the mode, should be fired. It's the most unrealistic garbage I've ever seen in a sports game.
I'm with you. Been playing MLB the Show for like 10 years. First thing I'd always do, fire up RTTS. But they made it unplayable. It's so barebones it's not enjoyable. It's nothing but player locking and playing one pointless game after another. Unless you buy diamond gear off marketplace, leveling your guy up is a grind. Especially if you want to be a 2 way player and only get one training session a week. It's a joke what this series has became.

Although I agree with the general sentiment of your post, got to slightly disagree with you here - what's the point of buying diamond gear off the market when gear doesn't work in RTTS mode for the most part??

First off, I want to say thank you for the 16 years I have enjoyed playing The Show, except maybe the start of 2018 when we couldn’t choose our starting team in RTTS. There have been some ups and downs but I have always enjoyed it.
However, I think this might be my last year. Not threatening or anything, it just appears I’m getting to old for the game being almost a 6o yr. old gamer. I could never use the pci. My mind only has enough time to figure out timing and whether it’s a strike or not and sometimes not even enough time for that. I have never been able to use it. So, I can never do the online missions or mission difficulty beyond all-star because the pci shrinks so much. I am not much of a DD player being mostly a rtts player but I do like to do a lot of the missions, conquest, and event stuff but too much of it involves playing online and I can’t do it. I just get creamed by everyone and can never advance. I do get addicted to opening packs lol, probably nostalgia from doing it so much when I was a kid. I would never ask for a game to be dumbed down and I am not. Just pointing out my own personal reasons.
But, on to the main issue.
I love RTTS. Every year I would create 3-4 players. All with different looks, names, personalities etc. I always did a power guy, a contact speedster, a starting pitcher, and sometimes a closer. I enjoyed developing them through their career and establishing them as the top in their position. But you have taken all this away. I can’t even make one with a different name or change how they look or anything due to your push towards making everyone play DD. As a RTTS player I still bought stubbs because I wanted the gear for them and like I said, I get addicted to opening packs. There was no need for this push. And speaking of pushing, I wish the game would stop asking me if I wanted to be a two position player. Leave me alone and let me play the game I want to play. Sorry, little rant there. I just get frustrated when I ask myself, Is anyone at SDS a true gamer or have they all forgotten what it’s like to be a gamer and enjoy playing, creating your character, and developing them? You have taken all this away from me and made it all very generic and because of that I do not think I can continue. I will just go back a few years and play that one over and over again.
I really doubt this will fall upon any ears or if any would agree with me, but it’s my 2 cents.
In addition, just some side notes..
You need a way to be able to call your agent instead of waiting for his yearly one call.I do not understand this double stat thing and see no purpose for it. Why are they 30-50 but then on my card everything goes to 100 and there seems to be no correlation. 40 speed might be 93 speed but 40 contact might only be 75 contact. It makes zero sense.
Check swings, annoying. I mash the button and get nothing but a check swing, usually only on curveballs and change ups. Add in feature to disable them. I like the realism but when it’s not working its needs to be able to be shut off.
Thank you,
I agree with everything you said. Unfortunately, SDS no longer cares about RTTS & Franchise players. They just want to find ways to force people to spend more & more $$$$ on their game. Looks like they've been taking some notes from EA & 2K on how to be underhanded, money grubbing, corporate A holes.
I returned my copy to Best Buy, that's how disappointed I was with the game. I'll be checking on Gamepass to see if it ever gets an update & if they fix some of this absolute garbage, but I'm sticking with my copy of MLB 20 on PS5 and my copy of MLB 17.
If this is the direction MLB The Show is going in, I'm done with this game too. I'll stick with my old copies of the MLB The Show & Super Mega Baseball 3. No way I will continue to support SDS with all these anti-consumer practices they are attempting to implement.
This game feels like a big F U to all the long time RTTS & Franchise players & supporters of this game. Not to mention it's basically half broken.

They are definitely going to lose RTTS customers after what they decided to do.
ABSOLUTELY, just based around my personal experience with my friends, I would say they are losing a lot of customers/potential customers. I play baseball on my school team & I have about 10 friends who used to play this game all the time. This year, a couple of us bought it, a couple of us tried it out on Gamepass. We all LOVE RTTS & Franchise mode, a couple of us rock some DD, but not much. We all played it the first week it came out & none of us have touched it since. We've literally been making jokes about NOT playing the game because of how much they wrecked the single player modes & game in general with "online integration".
A couple of us have gone back to MLB 20 and the rest of my friends just won't play it. SDS shot themselves in the foot by releasing on Gamepass, most of my friends downloaded it & saw the mess with RTTS & Franchise & haven't touched the game since. I bought my copy, but ended up returning it. I'll check gamepass for updates but SDS really dropped the ball or just gave a giant middle finger to all of their longtime MLB The Show customers & supporters.

Great post. A lot of what made games fun and beautiful has been stripped away in order to make profits and suck people into addicting/profit generating game modes. The issues that OP is citing are the results of such tactics. Thank you Ultimate Team and Diamond Dynasty.
