It was the FO's decision to bench him not Maddons.

I think he will sign a 1 day contract with the Cards to retire... Just makes sense
That's my thought and then join them in some kind of coaching position. It just makes the most sense to me.

Yeah but I think the Angels were waiting for something like that to happen. Pujols' contract has wasted a good Chuck of Mike Trouts career. As a tigers fan Miggy's contract has held them back considerably too. Same with Baltimore and Chris Davis.

Cardinals, one final stint with them and then he retires.
Maybe the cardinals can wrangle something as a farewell but they won't want to use a roster spot for him.
Also how does the Angels releasing him affect the 10 year personal services contract that kicks in when he retires?

They have as good of a chance as anyone in the AL to make the World Series the way the yankees are playing. That being said the national league in general is just better

At least Miggy is still relatively decent and didn't crash and burn like Davis' hitting did. Miggy's still hitting milestones (and that awesome HR on opening day) and is on his way to the 500 club. I think Miggy's issue has just been that he keeps getting injured.
And I'm gonna blame Al Avila too, because he needs to go.

Miggy has been replacement level since 2017... Injuries sure. Lots of them... But he hasn't been even average in years.. hitting milestones are fun. Not being productive at all while being paid 30m a season, not so good for Detroit...

Outside of ARod, I cant think of another supercontract that the organization didn't want to get out from during the last 1-4 years. These contracts usually end up weighing down the club too much on the backend as the player either falls apart or regresses.

I agree with you on Trout, but those would be the exceptions or outliers. The overwhelming majority become massive weights pulling down the organization.
