Why are player photos on the scoreboard not real photos???

From what I've noticed every photo of a player on scoreboards, is just a video game rendered image of their face.... Is it like that in all modes??? Seems pretty stupid....

Because of the custom uniforms. I'd rather have what they offer than a real picture trying to look good in my custom uniform.

could also be that the likeness rights allow to replicate the likeness but not use actual images.

I didn't realize that. I figured it would look like horrible if they tried putting a real photo in with the custom uni's. good to know

This has always been my guess. Lets them show your teams custom ballcap without trying to make it look good on a real picture. Real pictures would be tough as they would need to try to map your custom ballcap graphics over the real cap. With different angles, lighting and other discrepancies between pictures I am sure the results would look awful
