RTTS "Break list"
-
I've been fairly active on this forum the past couple days. Thought it might be beneficial to put together a separate post as to what things are wrong with RTTS right now that we know of. This is not meant to be a whine post but rather an attempt to list out all of the things which appear egregiously wrong with RTTS as it stands one day after release day.
Hopefully someone from SDS is at least looking at this (easy to notice from the "Dev Tracker" that they appear to be mostly concentrating on DD and marketplace issues).
So, these are the things we know require improvement and/or possible redesign by SDS:
-
Program Progression is largely not working/intermittent at best. This is crippling to the RTTS mode as progressing your character is largely based on the new game design and requires acquiring better "perk" objects (e.g. - the "gold" Power 1 gives +7 POW at the cost of -4 CON and -5 VIS, whereas the "bronze" Power 1 only gives +4 POW at the same cost). Those "perks" are quite difficult (impossible really) to acquire playing RTTS at this time;
-
New character creation is poorly thought out and executed. Areas of pain identified by players include (1) disdain for having to be a 2-way player out the gate; (2) inability to have control over your own secondary position; (3) inability to create a knuckleball pitcher (hey SDS - ever hear of a guy named Phil Niekro? Baseball Hall of Fame? Ring any bells?);
-
Items which are equipped as part of the RTTS "loadout" do not appear to have any impact at all upon OVR but do actually impact performance on the field so actually this is mostly a non-issue provided items are properly applied when selecting a "load out" before each game;
-
Check swings went from being fairly reliable in past versions to basically impossible in 2021. RTTS is supposed to be a simulation and check swings are definitely a big part of baseball. If this needed to be nerfed due to DD then frankly that's fine but at least allow RTTS players to check their swing on pitches as previous versions of the title have. And btw - did SDS consider the impact of this change on being able to raise plate discipline? Because the way it is now, you can only raise that attribute through training and not on the field performance.
-
Player progression through training opportunities appears painfully slow. This compounds the issue with Program Progression not working because in the absence of both, how the heck are we supposed to be able to advance our players to be able to achieve any success at the MLB level (presuming that doing so is our actual eventual goal).
-
Players who use multiple "loadouts" report that picking which one they are using before the game does not work as designed.
-
Inability to easily have multiple separate and distinct RTTS careers. For instance, in previous versions I (and it appears many other players) would have one RTTS career running as a SP, another as a power hitting 1B, another as a speedster, another for my child who liked to intermittently play. The Universal Player makes that so much more cumbersome to accomplish - even if having different loadouts were working as designed (which, sadly, is not the case);
-
The assertion, previously made by SDS employees Tony and Nick on the blog post (https://theshow.com/road-to-the-show-feedback-improvements-repeat/) that "a RTTS player should feel like they can freely progress by playing RTTS and only RTTS" is at this time (the day after public release) completely false.
Those are the things which I came up with which are known "broken" and seem particularly egregious.
Anyone else care to add?
Mooseedit - made a minor grammatical correction, added that players with multiple loadouts don't always get the right one in each game, removed reference to catchers because apparently you can create a catcher (who, of course, will have SP as his secondary position), corrected on items giving bonus attributes in-game.

-
Items which are equipped as part of the RTTS "loadout" do not appear to have any impact at all upon OVR or upon performance in the field - thus appear to be strictly cosmetic. Which seems like robbery to be frank - those items have a value measured in CAPS, CAPS have a dollar value because Sony sells them to us for dollars. Part of the incentive to buy upgraded versions (e.g. the Jackie Robinson version) was the inclusion of items and caps. Yet the items don't actually do anything other than look pretty??;

I also noticed that every time I jump on I am having to redo my my appearance as far as how my equipment looks or that I want batting gloves on both hands. also i had individual load-outs with particular equipment for my pitching load out and different equipment for a fielder load out. but when going from game to game in a series and selecting different load outs it doesn't change the equipment

One note on the equipment not affecting attributes: If you pause the game during the at bat and go to the player card of the batter, it should have a plus and then a number. This has always worked for me. It does not show up on the attributes tab in Ballplayer but is being applied in game I think. It would be nice to be able to just hold left on the d pad and see attributes like years past rather than going through three different screens and pausing the game to see them. Also, what does plate discipline even do if not govern check swings?

I checked and you're correct - the + numbers do appear in the in-game pause menu. They don't appear anywhere else that I can see. But at least they are there so I will edit my original post to reflect that.
Regarding plate discipline - in previous versions of the game, if you successfully checked your swing on a ball, your attribute would rise. That would be a part of getting your OVR up, which in turn can impact how soon you get to the majors, and when you get a starting spot. Also, if you simulated games it would have an impact as well. Granted, it's only one attribute of many but it should be something you can improve via in-game actions. Also on the check swings - I am striking out far more than I have before due strictly to this. Every now and again a breaking ball simply fools me coming out of the pitcher's hand. But now I might as well not even bother checking my swing. And that's just not baseball.
-
I think someone else said it, but equipment appearances don't work well. I like my character to wear two gloves but it resets a lot.
-
The knuckleball pitcher thing is so lame,... just make it to where that pitch isn’t usable online or just tell people to deal... making an offline mode restricted bc of an online one is so freaking cynical.
-
To your last point, I'm fairly certain the changes mentioned in that blog post haven't gone live yet

Well I know that plate discipline governed check swings in years past. I remember Ramone saying that they were removing check swings from plate discipline and making it all skill based. So I was expecting that not to even be an attribute but here it is. So I am wondering what function it serves of they removed check swings from plate discipline.

It is not completely false. They were saying how the mode should work when it is not bugged. Progression is obviously bugged but when they fix that bug then there is no reason that a RTTS player needs to venture into DD unless they choose to.

I understand your opinion. I've been a consumer of SDS product for over a decade now - I'm sure that this will get fixed. But until fixed, I think my statement is correct. The fact that there are only 4 major game modes - as presented in the main menu - and this one (RTTS) is so completely fubar at this time is appalling to me.

Not totally true. If you compare the missions from DD to RTTS for the same archtype it IS INDEED easier and faster to level up your guy in DD than RTTS. Almost twice as fast actually. It is BS.
-
(easy to notice from the "Dev Tracker" that they appear to be mostly concentrating on DD and marketplace issues). LOLOL You don't think they were going to worry about the poor guy who spent 100 bucks to buy this broken c@*@, did ya? Priorities. Time to send a message to companies that want people to literally pay them 100 bucks a pop, to be allowed to pay them to play broken stuff they are not legally obligated to fix. Let's talk about the real piracy that goes on. LOL
-
Look at the dev tracker they are not even talking about rtts mode this is BS

That is not the same as required.
And I would question if it is indeed much faster. Sure you need fewer hits and only need to play 5 innings for the repeatable missions but in DD you are playing every at bat, not just your own. You are also pitching every inning to every batter even if your Ballplayer is only a position player. Meanwhile, in RTTS you can jump from one at bat to the next in a matter of seconds. I can get in a lot more at bats in the same amount of time.
For example if your player bats leadoff in DD you would have to go through 19 at bats just to get to your 3rd at bat with your player and to get your third hit assuming you go 3 for 3. You could rush through a game to get the 5 innings played but you still will be required to pitch to at least 15 batters
Also, DD players are more incentivized to come play RTTS than the other way around because in DD they get no opportunity to raise their base stats. They don't get training opportunities and such.
(all of this is assuming the progression bug gets fixed)

My progression is working exactly as intended after you follow these simple steps. If you go to DD And delete all loadouts and equipment and then recreate them and play 1 conquest 3 inning game or try going straight back to RTTS (have not tried this) then go back to RTTS it works like a dream. I have gotten further in 5 hours today than i have all weekend in regards to progression. Good luck hope this helps!
As far as original post goes i am seeing first base sometimes black when approaching on a base hit.

It's good that there is a work around for those who want it but personally I don't want to jump through hoops to make it work, especially not knowing if it will break again tomorrow.
