Your not accurately representing the player you are controlling. You are able to achieve feats that he has never come close to accomplishing in real life. Hence arcade, not realistic.
Agree to disagree. Bartolo freaking Colon hit a HR in a real game. What are his stats in MLB The Show? So if Bartolo can do it, I think we should be able to hit dingers in the game with anyone.
You might like arcade games, I do not.
What you want is to be able to compete by evening the playing field because you don’t feel comfortable being able to learn zone. Which is clearly a more dominant interface
Of course a directional hitter wants outcomes for everyone to be random. Why wouldn’t you?
Basically you are saying “I play this way and this is the Max of achievable outcome therefore...no one should be able to achieve anything greater then what the game allows me to achieve”
Based on our conversation on mouse and keyboard I know exactly what your core intentions are dude.
Let’s make the game completely catered to your level of gameplay so that you can compete at a high level. Smh. Ridiculous
I 100% can take a very confident guess at where you stand politically lol
I’m very glad you don’t work for SDS
Once again you continue to put words in my mouth. Why do you continue to make childish statements to try and make an argument where there is none? You have your feelings about how the game should play and I have mine. You get emotional when someone has a different view than you.

If I have good at bats with said player, I should put up similar stat lines. Same goes with all aspects of the game, pitching, fielding, etc.
And what if you take better at bats in the game than the player does in real life? Maybe you work counts better, are fooled by pitches less often, have a legend batting behind you so you get better pitches to swing at.
Theoretically every batter should be batting significantly worse than they did in real life because in the game they are facing elite starters and relievers every game.

The first part of the question- That’s where the user is responsible for living up to said players abilities. I get what you are saying about you not chasing pitches, but the player you are controlling does in real life. That is what would separate user from user.
The second part- you forget that these elite arms are going against all elite batters in the specific scenario you present. Those two things compete against each other as well as the users decision making on what to swing at, as well as what pitch to throw in what location.
I completely understand if you do like this. I respect your view of how the game should be, I just don’t like the fact that every time someone from our side of the fence expresses our views we are shown disrespect.

It’s not emotional. Own it. You want the game to play to your skill level and you don’t believe ppl should be able to be better ... all skill matters.

@sean_87__PSN ... I hope I am not disrespecting you with what I have said already, as I don’t intend on that. I just think your argument doesn’t account for players who have sensational up and down swings throughout their careers. Here are some examples from real life:
In May 2019 Derek Dietrich hit .304 and hit 12 HRs. He is a lifetime .245 hitter.
In May 2017 Carlos Correa hit .384 with 7 HRs. He is a lifetime .276 hitter.
In July 2018 Corey Dickerson hit .400 with 6 HRs. He is a lifetime .284 hitter.
In July 2017 Jonathan Schoop hit .343 with 9 HRs. He is a lifetime .259 hitter.
You want a game that is based on realism. The examples I gave you are realism. Players that have weak attributes does not mean they can’t hit crazy numbers from time to time.

Of course, players go on streaks, positive and negative. I never said that shouldn’t be represented in the game. I fully agree that streaks should be accounted for in the programming.

So If the game only allows players to bat a specific number bc of their lifetime stat, how would we have these streaks? Better question, what programming would represent this ?

Everything can be represented with numbers. At what percentage does said player have these ups and downs? How often do they go through these? All this can be represented with percentages. I’m just not sure you could properly make this game realistic without a true physics engine. For example, they still pull the 1st baseman off the bag with a liner hit to right field because they can’t properly represent velocity, time, and distance.

I don’t understand how they could allow directional or analog in competitive play. I think it should be mandatory to use zone or pure analog with stride.
Save the timing interfaces for offline play and casual.
That would obviously make the most sense
I am still not sure why people care. If you tell me that you are going to allow my opponents to use tools that give me an advantage then who am I to complain?
But the bottom line is how many people use it in the competitive modes. If those people are likely to spend money on stubs to chase cards to play a mode that they will be less competitive playing then I can't see SDS removing it.
Also, if SDS are tracking enough stats they might even have the data that shows where those who use directional finish in ranked seasons. If the vast majority of those players appear in the lower half of the ranked seasons divisions then they will not see an issue with it.
Yes, I will never understand why people get upset at other players for using inputs online that have more RNG.
I just don’t like missing because I can’t decide where to put the bat on the ball; usually after a couple innings I just give up. You want to use directional? Fine by me. I have more control and if I f up it’s on me.
Yeah, and I am more than cool with you using directional, because you are allowing the cpu to more control over your outcome than I will.
I see the same thing happening in NBA 2k, people complain when they face players who play off ball, in other words they control say the center and let the CPU guard them. If you can't beat the CPU who is guarding you H2H it means you can't beat the CPU on All Star, that is on you.
I don't like trusting the CPU to guard for me, just as I don't want my outcomes to be RNG. If I swing and miss at a pitch, that is on me sucking and not hitting a button and the RNG says I am not getting a hit here.
But if you are ok with RNG, that is fine with me.
I think I wasn’t clear or you misread; I don’t use directional because of RNG; I want zone so I can own my mistakes.

That would be interesting programming. But my issue is that baseball doesn’t always go by the numbers. Hell in all sports, things happen that numbers and percentages can’t explain. Perfect example is Joc Pederson bunting the other day. Unexpected. No numbers for that.

No doubt, but that would be a user decision. As far as programming that against the AI controlling Joc Pederson, easy. What percentage of bunt attempts out of the amount of at bats. You can’t program for user decision making, that’s where the competition level between users lies. I appreciate you being able to have a conversation about this, even though you do not agree, in a respectable manner. So many people on here forget that they are talking to another human being.

@sean_87__PSN . I like having discussions when the parties involved don’t agree. The world is too big and everyone has different opinions. It would be boring if all agreed on everything.

I’m not as good as I think I am. But I don’t want the game to change to suit me personally. I’d rather lose in a game I felt was fair then win in a game I felt was simulated.

Firstly, I think if most people went back and read some of the things you said to me they would consider that disrespectful.
Secondly, I never said I wasn’t competitive, quite the opposite. I have been accused of not being a competitive person numerous times on this forum in the past and had to try and explain to them that we just don’t like the same kind of games.
Lastly, I have been trying to explain the same thing to you numerous times, we don’t like the same kind of games. It doesn’t make me any less or more competitive than you. It means just that, we don’t like the same type of games. You keep on trying to pin me in a corner saying that I want the game to change to favor me because I am not any good. Simply not true. I want a realistic game, that’s it, nothing else, point blank period. I assure you I am as competitive as they come. I used to be into powerlifting and was once in a very small percentile of people when it came to strength in my weight class. I hope you can finally see and accept my point of view, albeit you disagree.

May as well chime in myself. I understand what you’re getting at in this conversation. However what you’re suggesting is bordering on making the game predictable after a certain point. Kind of like blackjack without the shuffling after seven hands or whatever it is now. The players knowing that (to use previous example) Kolten Wong is currently hitting .400 so his stats need to be reined back in. Imagine that in the final AB two outs bases loaded bottom of the 9th, a run behind. Knowing you’re going to lose because your stats are inflated.
That’s not how a game should work. Possibly in a pure simulation it may have a place, but not in PvP.

And then have all these strange ways you want the game to play that dumbs down zone hitting and makes the game a simulation baseball. The type of game you want has no place in ranked seasons. I’m just not sure you could properly make this game realistic without a true physics engine. For example, they still pull the 1st baseman off the bag with a liner hit to right field because they can’t properly represent velocity, time, and distance.
I’m not quite sure you are fully understanding it. You speak of Kolten Wong in a one at bat scenario instead of a season long 500-600 at bats.

You talk about averages. What about strike outs? How do you stop a person from striking out too much with a player that barely strikes out in a real life? What about stolen bases?
Some people have 175 bases stolen with one card you capping that? Why is your “realism” begin and end with the hitting? And what about wins? Era? Does a person just stop giving up homeruns when his era gets too high? What about overall wins? Do you have to stop using a card once you get to a certain amount of games with them? What about overall games? Is your rank season capping at 162?
