The Cubs are closing in on a one-year, Major League deal with right-hander Brandon Workman, reports Patrick Mooney of The Athletic (Twitter link). The deal in question would guarantee Workman $1MM with another $2MM available via incentives.
The Workman deal comes one day after Cubs president of baseball operations signaled that he expected to soon add one more reliever on a Major League deal.

The Marlins and Rays are in agreement on a trade sending right-hander John Curtiss from Tampa Bay to Miami in exchange for minor league first baseman Evan Edwards, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (Twitter link).

Yankees Sign Derek Dietrich, Nick Goody.

The Giants have reached an agreement to sign righty Aaron Sanchez, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. It’s a $4MM deal with another $2.5MM in incentives, adds Slusser. Sanchez is represented by the Boras Corporation.

The Brewers have signed Travis Shaw. Shaw will make $1.5MM with another potential $1.5MM in incentives if he earns a roster spot, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com relays. There’s a March 15 opt-out date in the pact.

The Brewers have signed Brett Anderson. The two sides have a one-year, $2.5MM deal in place, pending a physical, per Jeff Passan of ESPN. Anderson could earn an additional $1MM in incentives.

The Pirates have agreed to a Major League deal with left-hander Tyler Anderson. Anderson will earn $2.5MM, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette tweets.

The Braves have won their arbitration case against shortstop Dansby Swanson, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. Swanson will earn $6MM, not the $6.7MM he requested, according to Heyman.

The Rays and Red Sox Have agreed on a trade that will send recently designated-for-assignment pitchers Chris Mazza and Jeffrey Springs from Boston to Tampa Bay in exchange for minor league catcher Ronaldo Hernandez and another Rays farmhand, reports Alex Speier of the Boston Globe (Twitter thread). MLB.com’s Adam Berry tweets that 23-year-old Nick Sogard, the Rays’ 12th-round pick in 2019, is the other player going to Boston in the deal.

[Vietti] Francisco Lindor, Carlos Carrasco, Nolan Arenado, Blake Snell, Yu Darvish, and Josh Bell were all traded this offseason. One MLB Top-100 prospect (No. 19 Luis Patino to TB) was needed to acquire these players.

Cody Allen, the franchise leader in saves (149) and appearances (456) for the Cleveland Indians, has retired at the age of 32, the team said. He did not pitch during the 2020 season.

The Phillies announced Wednesday that they’ve signed utilityman Brad Miller to a one-year, Major League contract.

Arrieta has passed his physical, and the deal will be announced in the near future, tweets Nightengale. The contract contains a $4MM salary in 2021 and a $10MM mutual option for the 2022 season that comes with a $2MM buyout. Arrieta would receive a $250K bonus for reaching each of 150, 160, 170 and 180 innings pitched this year.

The Marlins announced Wednesday that they’ve designated outfielder Harold Ramirez for assignment.

The Cubs have signed Pedro Strop to a minor league deal.

$340 mil. Seems kinda young to invest that much. Big gamble. But in about 5 years that deal will look like a steal if he even close to lives up to potential.

Congratulations to Tatis for making sure the Padres overpaid him early. And big shame to the Padres for giving him the bag when he barely has 1 full season under him.

Few more details on the Tatis extension:
The Padres have agreed to a historic 14-year deal with superstar Fernando Tatis Jr., according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune (via Twitter).
It is worth a guaranteed $340MM, Robert Murray of Fansided adds on Twitter. The deal provides Tatis with full no-trade rights, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand tweets. There’s a $10MM signing bonus.

You want to know what this deal means to me? These owners didn't lose nearly as much money as they're implying.

The Phillies kicked off Spring Training with some brutal news for fans. Star catcher J.T. Realmuto recently sustained a small fracture in his right thumb, manager Joe Girardi announced to reporters (Twitter link via MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki).
His thumb will be immobilized for the next two weeks, and while the Phils are hopeful he’ll be ready for Opening Day, there’s no guarantee that’ll be the case.

While it’s only a one-year pact, the Athletics will pay Trevor Rosenthal for three seasons, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic tweets. He’ll earn $3MM in both 2021 and ’22 and another $5MM in ’23.
