What should be the first thing I do in the game when The Show 21 drops?
-
So, with MLB The Show FINALLY coming to Xbox, what should I focus on first when I get 21? What are the major things that I should head to first and what should I avoid (if there is any). Yes, complete newbie to the series. Glad that its finally here. Also, what should I buy and not buy within the game. I'm not familiar with the ins and outs and all that within the game. Thanks in advance.

Packs, programs and standard conquest map
-
Open your packs, set your team, then grind the programs/ conquest maps and showdowns to upgrade team and receive free packs and stubs. Lock in team collection and gear to receive more free stubs and possibly better cards. If you learn to play the market, that’s a ticket to easy stubs and therefore better cards.
-
Welcome to the Show! What to recommend really depends on the answer to this question:
How do you like to play?
As I don’t know yet, I have done up a bit of a summary. These summaries are based on previous versions of the game as we don’t know how 20 will shape up. There may be some changes.
Selected Offline options:
- Control one player only? Franchise player lock or Road to the Show.
- Take an entire team or franchise (Majors and Minors) through an entire season playing full games? Franchise.
- Play selected games or critical moments for your team from a whole season? March to October, or Franchise with critical situations switched on.
- Start in the minor leagues and work towards making the majors? Road to the Show.
- Want gameplay that is clearly biased against success to force you to grind away for hours at repetitive tasks to collect cards? Moments, Showdown, Conquest
- Want to play against somebody else’s Diamond Dynasty team without the risk of poor sportsmanship that may occur when matching up against a random? Extra Innings
Selected Online options:
- Prefer to play with friends in a friendly non-toxic way in a season-type environment? Leagues
- Prefer to play a one-off against a friend? Head-to-head
- Prefer illogical and frustrating gameplay that is clearly biased at times towards either yourself or your opponent and endure endless bunt dancing, pausing, baserunning exploits? Diamond Dynasty Ranked Seasons
- Want to play short games against people with team names like ‘let me x and I’ll quit’? Events
These are of course tongue-in-cheek summaries from a non-DD player. As I said, it comes down to how you like to play. The Show has lots of options. What type of gameplay are you most interested in?

Step #1: learn to not double post on the forum.

The First Day:
- Open any Pre-Order packs you might have
- Set your Lineup
- Play Tutorial Conquest
- Check collections and see if you can knock out a few.
- Customize your uniform and logos
The first week:
- Complete USA/1st Inning Conquest
- Start playing Ranked Seasons (It's okay if you lose a few to start out. Losses don't count against you until you get to a 400 rating.)
- Dip your foot into events
- Learn how to flip cards and play the market.
- Try Moments, especially if Topps Now moments are available.
The first month:
- Start completing team collections
-
The first thing I do with every sports game, is disable the God-awful music.
-
A lot to digest for sure. But looking forward to playing everything in the game. Personally, I want to play full games....every inning...every pitch. No stimulated games for me. As for the music, I tend to disable that with all games just to take it out of the equation if I upload to YouTube.

Two questions:
-
Are you interested in a) a season-based mode where you are attempting to get to the postseason or b) do you want to build a team of god-like players?
-
Do you want to play against a) human controlled teams online or b) CPU controlled-teams offline?
a + a = leagues
a + b = franchise
b + a = ranked seasons
b + b = extra inningsThere is also a hidden answer 1a + 1a which is joining a league with your DD card players.
These are all based on TS20 and may slightly change for TS21.

Actually both are of interest to me.

If it's DD you're interested in, I'd look at all the offline stuff that has rewards, especially cards and knock those out. Prioritize cards you want first obviously, but don't neglect rewards you get another the way if it has a 'path'.
There will probably be a starter conquest, probably a starter showdown, and easy to complete collections that will jump start your team, start there. Then look at the programs (inning/player) and knock those out along with conquest. Once you are feeling froggy, hop into an event or two and maybe some ranked games. You have to get good and put in a lot of time for the best rewards and will be competing online with people who spend money on the game right away. Money helps at first but quickly becomes a non factor as time spend ends up being more valuable after a couple months (so many good free cards).
There will be a TON of free cards you can get via moments or other ways. Knock as many of those out as you can/want. You will have a solid team in no time.

Thanks for the helpful tips. Appreciate it. I forgot to ask before (new to The Show franchise), but does the game have anything like Legends Play? Can I create a team with the likes of Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Cy Young, etc....? And then play using said team, be it for online competition or offline play? Just curious.

In diamond dynasty (the fantasy team/ultimate team mode) you can do just that. I have every play you listed on my team for MLB The Show 20.
In other modes, not really, but sorta. You can use different rosters and such and play with those players, but I'm really unsure if you can play with them online. The play now stuff and franchise is current rosters to my knowledge, same with march to october. I FEEL like you can practice with them, but havent played other modes to see how/if you could play with them outside of tweaking rosters and playing offline vs the cpu. I'll defer to someone else who has more experience outside of DD and MTO, maybe they know more. But from the little I do know, it's limited or requires some finessing.
DD does let you play with them without restriction (outside of special events which sometimes restricts certain cards) in all it's modes as long as you have the card.

Okay. Cool. Thanks.

Just so you know all legends you asked about won't all be available day1.
Unless you play Franchise you can set up Draft that include legends. There is usually a gold version and or low tier diamond some players have both. CPU will draft them as well, and if you do watch your budget cuz they will cost a pretty penny

Thanks. A lot to learn with this game and definitely looking forward to it. Can't wait.

OR ... they might be available, but not necessarily in their final form.
Babe was available Day 1 this year, but as a young pitcher. (https://mlb20.theshow.com/items/1b3c1623c5c98ad8549b8f62670d1f52)
His super-mega card (https://mlb20.theshow.com/items/448a7e8a46946d59a16758d346844a06) wasn't released until August.

What I will be first doing is heading to rtts bc you can use them in dd now. I like to play rtts anyway so imma have a beast. Created players always seem to be the best early on.
