Not 100% what your question is, but to clear it up if you are playing the PS4 version rather it be on the PS4 or PS5 you will need the disk inserted. If you are playing the PS5 version it will be a digital download so no disk needed.
He is asking if you buy the hard copy jackie robinson deluxe version that comes with dual entitlement, do you need to have the disc that comes with it inserted into your ps5 when you are playing it on ps5. In other words, can you buy the deluxe hard copy version and give away the ps4 disc and just use the ps5 download code that it says it comes with. Or do you need to keep the disc at all times in order to play the ps5 download via the code.

so basically if you have a ps5 you can buy the physical jackie robinson deluxe edition, redeem the digital code on ur ps5 and then sell the ps4 disc because you don't need it? I'm having trouble believing that would be allowed.

If you already have the PS5 you would probably just buy the PS5 digital deluxe edition, the Jackie Deluxe edition comes with a PS4 Disc and A PS5 code, plus the hat etc. Digital deluxe is code for both consoles. You can only get a PS5 disc through the standard edition. That's what the OP's gripe is

Say my friend has a ps4 and i have a ps5. under this theory we can split the physical JR deluxe edition where he takes the ps4 disc and i take the ps5 digital code. It's two games for the price of one. Do we think they would allow this?

Yeah because it's set up that way. They can't do anything to stop you unless there is some sort of stipulation that only the same PSN account can use them

It's clear that you get a ps5 code to d/l the digital version, what's not clear is whether the digital version you get is different from the other digital version in that you need a disc to use it. If so, the disc version has a huge advantage over the pure digital version in that you can recoup some $$ in the secondary market by selling the version you don't need.

Funny thing about that, I had the disc version of Hitman 2 and the digital version of Hitman 1 and 3. I was expecting to have to put the Hitman 2 disc in to play those levels via Hitman 3. However, the digital levels were there for me to redeem just for having played Hitman 2 and owning Hitman 3. A pleasant surprise.
I’d be surprised if you have to have the disc inserted to play the PS5 download. That seems like something that should be made clear in the product description if it is going to be the case, especially for players that end up buying the digital PS5.

It's not an upgrade situation as the code is provided. I think this question unfortunately remains unsolved.
