What To Do If You Do Not Yet Have The PS5

I always preorder the new MLB The Show and need to find out what to do. I have not been able to get my hands on a PS5 as of yet and plan on doing so as soon as they are available again. What version do I order ? Or do I just have to wait instead of preordering.

You can always wait but if you order the current gen deluxe edition you get a free upgrade to the next gen version .
I don’t think that applies to standard edition. -
No upgrade option if you buy the PS4 standard so you only options are the PS5 standard or the DeLuxe edition, both >70$.

If you get a collectors edition you will have both games. So you can play on PS4 until you get a PS5 then start playing on PS5 wiithout losing any progress.

It turns out I was wrong and it's for the worse. You can ONLY have both generation copies by purchasing the Collector's Edition according to the FAQ in this page (either physical or digital). Means that if the collector's edition follows tradition, it's gonna cost 100$, and that's the only way to enjoy the privilege of owning both versions in one purchase. No other option grants you both copies and there is no optional upgrade fee after sale for Standard and DeLuxe Editions on PS4. And the physical Collector's Edition only comes with a PS4 disc alongside a digital code for PS5, not two discs.

I'd hold off until they detail what's better/different about the next gen. If they are allowing crossplay between generations, it's likely only small graphical improvements on top of the generally faster loading times on the newest generation. There may end up not being a compelling reason to upgrade your hardware for this game, you can plug along happily with your PS4 or XBONE and spend that money on DOGECOIN.
All in all, console generation aside, it's good news for DD players. Bigger pool of online opponents, and bigger pool of folks using the community market.
