If I have a concern should I email them and get no response, or ask on here and get deleted? This censorship and lack of information/transparency is really getting old.

Lack of transparency and information is a huge issue with SDS.
But deciding that they don't want language on their forum because the game is rated E isn't censorship

They aren’t dumb. It’s a filtering system they use. Your dollar sign substitution is account for in the algorithm.

Not talking about that specific one since it’s on their rules which is obvious

Seriously, I’m glad that there are rational human beings like you and @lankyryan (and others) on these forums to balance out the rampant blaming of one’s misfortunes on others’ misdeeds. It’s nuts sometimes.

LOL! Deciding and removing language because they (SDS) find it inappropriate and simply don't want it on their forums is exactly what censorship is. Maybe you are confusing it with something else?
-
I think quibbling over semantics is what’ll probably happen here, but I think the point was that having a formula that disallows curse words from registering is not the same as the essence of suppressing an opinion.

Its their place of business, so they have the freedom to use and moderate the platform. Just like you can kick someone out of your house if you don't want them there. They can choose what they want and don't want, that is their right and anyone who just wants to curse doesn't overrule that right.
Censorship is a much more serious word that's connotation doesn't really apply here. You signed the Tos, you agreed to follow the terms of service, and that is part of the ToS. -
It’s fascinating. They will monitor this website and control what you can say about their game. I’ve never seen a company waste their time or resources to doing it but SDS is a very sensitive bunch

There are plenty of threads that trash the game that don't get removed, OP's example is one where there was language used, that's why they removed it, not because of the criticism.

That is the definition of censoring! " to delete anything considered objectionable". Again, you can debate until the sun goes down on what should or shouldn't be censored but there is zero ground to stand on that censorship does NOT occur on this forum. It happens every day.

It's not censorship because you agreed beforehand through the ToS, you agreed to abide by the rules before posting. They are not just going around keeping people quiet, they are abiding by the rules they CLEARLY set forth beforehand, it isn't something coming out of the blue. Again, the word censorship is a very serious topic that doesn't apply to this situation. You are using the term very loosely.
They are not silencing his thoughts or feelings, he is free to express any concept he wants as long as it follows ToS, I.E. no swear words. They aren't taking away his voice, only telling him because the game is rated E, that they don't want swear words on the forum.

Again, directly from Webster-Merriam's dictionary: to censor (as a verb) means "delete anything considered objectionable". When SDS removes something they deem objectionable then they are censoring. In this setting I am all for censoring as we know there are plenty of toxic players out there. You keep mentioning the TOS. Tip of the cap to SDS for making those known. The TOS simply let us know that SDS will and does censor their forums. Again, I agree that they should have that right since it is their business but it is still censoring.
"They are not silencing his thoughts or feelings, he is free to express any concept he wants as long as it follows ToS, I.E. no swear words. They aren't taking away his voice, only telling him because the game is rated E, that they don't want swear words on the forum."- Eatyum
The above you stated is similar to when TV channels/stations CENSOR movies. They are not silencing the thoughts/message of the movie. They are telling the movie producers/company that they simply don't want certain swear words or specific scenes being shown on their channel. The TV companies are "deleting content they deem objectionable". They are censoring. Your posts in this thread describe examples of censorship left and right! I know you see it but I am not sure why you don't want to admit that. Anyways, I am done with this "discussion". If you don't want to accept the definition of a word then that is on you.

The fundamentals of economics seems to be what you are missing here, NC.
This forum is created by SDS and exists on their servers. They are allowed to kick you off their lawn if you don’t follow the TOS.

I think he's getting too stuck on a dictionary definition without thinking about the different connotations behind the word.
If someone said "Such and such games forums practices censorship", would your mind go to, "oh they don't allow swear words", or "Oh they delete criticism and silence anyone who has a negative thought about the game"
I'd wager most people it would be the latter.
-
Yes, exactly.
What they are doing is moderating their forum.
