Dualshock 4 Wired vs. Wireless
-
Most of you guys probably know that you can wire your Dualshock 4 controller to your console if you have the CUH-ZCT2E (or V2) series. Since everyone is always trying to find an edge over the competition, I thought this would be an interesting topic to discuss.
There is a lot of debate going on whether it is actually beneficial for you to wire your controller opposed to just using the bluetooth connection. I know this sounds counterintuitive because wired is always better, right?
Well, not according to these tests.
Apparantly, the polling rate of the bluetooth adapter in de DS4 is much higher than the polling rate of the USB connection. The USB connection would (again, counterintuitive) therefore have more input lag than the "normal" wireless bluetooth connection.
One argument that is made however, is that like with all wireless connections there is a chance of interference. Especially if you live in an apartment building for example, where there are countless routers and other transmitters that could cause interference on your bluetooth connection. In that case it could be worth it to go with the more stable wired connection at the cost of a little input lag.
My question to you is, what do you prefer to use and if you yourself have messed around with this, what are your experiences?
Disclaimer: I'm not a hardware professional, I do not know which option is in fact "better". I have not done the testing myself. I have no bias towards one or the other. I just want to share opinions and experiences.

I've tried both and I found wireless worked better , I thought the lag was caused originally by my wireless and started to use wired , then when I upgraded to the 5G Verizon router (highly recommend) I tried wireless again and it worked great.

I have always assumed that wired would be better in terms of input lag... Perhaps its time to experiment.

i have a Nacon wired and i noticed a big difference around The Show 18, but now with your post you have me really questioning everything ...... i personally HATE the wire hanging around my chair and leg like FKK off with the wire if possible

There is supposedly something wrong with certain batches of the v2 PS4 dualshock 4 controllers where the wired connection has more lag than Bluetooth.
I watched a YouTube video with someone explaining it very well. If I can find it I'll link it. He also listed the starting serial numbers for the affected controllers.

Thank you. According to him, this issue applies with all controllers which are capable of being wired, because the model number he mentions is not a serial number but basically the full model number of the 'Dualshock 4 V2', which is also the only model being able to be wired in the first place.

Wouldn't surprise me, I play with a Nacon controller. It's wired functionality is fine and it has its own Bluetooth USB dongle for wireless, I'm straight

I was just watching that video and I use Bluetooth for my communication setting, so if I’m charging my controller but have Bluetooth still set, would the input lag be based off of the usb connection for the charging, or stay with the system settings?

As long as you have your controller connected through Bluetooth in the system settings, it will always transmit data that way and the USB cable will only function as a charging cable.

Ok thanks for the info! I wish sony would give us better info lol but I don’t mind the community solving it either

Sorry, just seeing this and nit sure I am following....are you saying setting up your controller as Bluetooth (even if using usb to charge) is better than hard wired in for connection speed?

Yes, as counterintuitive as that may sound that is true when it comes to DualShock 4 controller because of the polling rates.

Here is another Reddit thread with additional information.

I don't wire it, can confirm I get more P/P lineouts which is the desired output for the game as per Ramone.
