So people spend hours and hours and days and days completing missions, buying and selling cards, jumping through all kinds of hoops to collect certain cards for a mode that's basic gameplay is flawed compared to other online modes?
The flawed game play is on purpose to make bad players beat good players more often, which helps keep them from quitting the game, which increases the chances they buy stubs. The randomness and the late inning drama keeps everyone thinking they are one new shiny card away from being good.
There is nothing to buy in online rated, so it is just the base game play (without the manipulation)
Makes perfect sense. Which is why I'll stick to online rated. Fun vs. Frustration. Imput rewarded vs. Rng. Easy choice.

Last comment about this topic. I played another online rated game. I'm squaring up balls with bronze and silver cards. No problem. The pci goes right where I put it. And the pci's are smaller. I just don't get this. There is definitely something different between these modes. That's all.
-
Online rated plays so much better because there is no reward, no $, and SDS doesn’t have to figure out how to keep users engaged.

You're also hitting against some sorry a$$ LS cards lol

Online rated is using cards with lower ratings and a larger disparity in ratings. It uses a different set of sliders as well. There's no money involved in the gameplay, therefore it doesn't require gameplay to engage the user in the same manner as DD.

Why is it that I have fun playing online rated? User input seems to be more accurate. Especially with hitting. I play on hall of fame difficulty. I feel there is less random outcomes with hitting.
If the pci's are bigger in DD, how is it that it's harder to hit? And just seems so much more frustrating.
Do any of you hard core DD guys ever try online rated? I wish
you will and post your opinions here. This has my interest. How do I get to “online rated”?

Doesn't require gameplay? you mean scripting?

It's all relative. sorry azz hitters and pitchers. But theres a big difference in gameplay.

I gave up on DD due to the garbage gameplay, but I might just give online rated a shot

Not scripting, but the RNG applied to hitting and pitching results. The RNG ranges are much wider in DD, leading to a wider spectrum of possible results.

Really? you never checked out other modes just to see what they look like or what they're about? You go to the game modes screen. Then play now, then online rated. you use MLB teams. You get to select what difficulty you want to play on. I recommend hall of fame. play it and let us know if you can tell a difference between it and DD.
Of course you're going to start out playing lower rated people so don't come back saying how easy it is. If you work your way up and play the game early in release, you play some good players.

Good stuff, thanks. I have played The Show every year since it’s first version but always played franchise , or RTTS. This is my first year of DD , didn’t even know they had another online option other than play friends ( which I have done in previous years).

I’ll admit I enjoyed trying out online rated just now.
That said, I found the same frustrating things happening. The only run I gave up to my opponent was on a two out dropped third strike that my catcher threw into right field foul territory.
I also had the damndest time scoring add on runs after taking an early lead, despite numerous good swings, and of course my opponent would get the tying run on base in the ninth.
The game still had that overall nerfed feeling that RS games do.
I dunno, it was fun, but it was not night and day. The gameplay currently is just not rewarding at all in its current form, whether it’s RS, online rated, or even conquest vs cpu. There’s too much stuff that happens that is outside of the user’s control.
I guess this what they mean by “simulation”.

I don't play online-rated because when I play, I have more fun if I'm working towards something. It's why I never play RS after I make WS, there isn't a point in my eyes. There isn't an end-goal with online rated, there isn't something to chase after, so I don't touch it
I wasn't asking what mode people prefer to play. I wanted to discuss whether people notice a difference in gameplay between DD and online rated.
If you're not asking what mode people prefer to play, then what are you asking? Because DD and online rated can be the same thing. For example, RS gameplay is DD, and also online rated.
EDIT: Nm, just read your post above

Online Rated - I've had the best games mainly because the other person plays baseball, thinks baseball, and makes moves that make baseball sense. Not win at all costs like DD exploit every trick in the book.
-
Good question OP... and I wish SDS would be more transparent about this issue.
DD RS gameplay has been a problem for several years, which is why I have not wanted to play much of that this year. Content aside, the '16 Show version (minus bunt cheese) had probably the best DD RS gameplay. It has went downhill ever since ('18 was the worst). Hopefully, the new gen consoles can improve the DD RS H2H gameplay experience.
However, with the exception of the ridiculously op future star cards, I do love this year's content. -

LOL Trick in the book? Such as?
excessive bunting, stealing, bunt dancing, excessive pausing, check swings, and use of L2. (I think it's L2, the button that holds the pitcher up) Unnecessary animations like throwing from left field to first base. quick pitching. taking the extra leadoff step when your opponent keeps throwing back to the bag. I'm sure I'm leaving some other cheesy tactics out that you probably know about.
I played you couple weeks ago and you bunt danced on me and rage quit on a home run. So don't play like you don't know. -

First off, I'm not a bunt dancer. I did it for one batter to show you how annoying you were doing it to me, while you chose to do it the entire game. Second of all, the score was 2-0 because you hit a bloop single in the 4th inning, not a homerun. Any more lies you want to throw in? LOL
Lastly, all these 'tricks' in the book you talk about in DD, people can do as well in Online Rated, so does that really mean that it's a 'trick?' Probably the most funny thing about your post is that my question was directed to @SurfinSantaCruz, the person who I was initially responding to, but thanks for chiming in with your lies. LOL
