MLB reclassified Negro League as major league

About time , Negro league players were far better than their white counterparts. MLB was minor leagues compared to Negro league if you thought about it.
Ok, so let me get this straight. You make the assumption that the Negro Leagues were better than their White counterparts in the MLB. Can I ask how you base this opinion? Don’t get me wrong there were some great players in those leagues but it’s a stretch to say that it was the superior league. Extrapolation’s like this can’t be made due to the situation that you’re making for an argument. I mean I could say that the Japan Nippon baseball league is superior to the MLB because they have/had great players like Sadaharo Oh (world record holder for most homers) and others like Ichiro and Matsui. It’s false logic because we don’t play those teams or have any relationship outside of an annual barnstorming and goodwill series event at the end of the year with a few decent players being featured on both sides. And yes we have the WBC every so many years but it’s far from a true determinant as many clubs block their top players from playing or the top players just choose not to participate. So it’s a wildly absurd assumption to say they were the better league.

I don't know about this statement. Sure there were fantastic Negro League players, many of them mentioned in this thread. And there have been many awesome black players since Jackie Robinson: Aaron, Gibson, Griffey, etc. But if what you’re saying was true, wouldn’t the current MLB be dominated by black players the way the NFL and NBA are? Now if you lump in Hispanics with the Negro Leagues you may have a point.
Obviously this is a very slippery slope to debate about. I am in no way arguing any sort of white supremacy and I hope nobody takes it that way.
I think you provided the answer yourself. I think many young black athletes who excel in athletics usually excel in more than one sport. The NBA and NFL are far more desired destinations because they pay better and the path to a good pay check is way shorter. Nobody wants to play years in the minor leagues, 1 injury away from never making it to the bigs. There have been plenty of examples of guys who chose the NBA or the NFL over a career in baseball for that reason alone, not even mentioning the fact that football and basketball are considered "sexier" than baseball. I have no doubt in my mind that some NBA or NFL super athletes would be all-star level MLB players IF they had dedicated their lives to playing baseball from their early 20s.
I'm pretty sure the the MLB pays the best but beside that the rest of that is correct.
Only the top of the MLB contracts maybe, but the NBA and NFL contract pay way more early on which is often a deciding factor for a lot of these guys because it gives financial security during the early years, while MLB prospects only have their signing bonuses along with a minor league deal which isn't all that much. The path to the majors can be long and sometimes they don't even make it, while being a 1st round draft pick in the NFL gives you financial stability pretty much from day 1. Not to mention the NBA which is by far the best league to play in as an athlete from many perspectives, also financially.

Nope, per year averages , NBA pays the best , due in part to playing at Major level at younger age. Top level players are paid 40+ mil a year in NBA and every team had one or multiple. The few teams that don’t have one , other teams have 2. Lol the Pirates whole payroll is less than 2 NBA players on some teams.
So yeah , emphatically, you are wrong.
Actually no you’re wrong. The top pros in basketball receive 90 percent of the entire leagues cumulative salary. In fact Lebron James makes nearly as much as the rest of his team combined on a per annum basis. Average Annual Salary per player is not a valid stat to make that argument as wealth is much more spread out in baseball. Also baseball players tend to have longer careers than their pro counterparts due to the nature of the sport. In baseball there are arbitration salaries that eclipse 20 million and Mookie Betts set the record when he received over 30 million in Arbitration a few years back.

Satchel Page was how old when he played in MLB? 40 something? Yet some of the greatest white players said he was the best pitcher they ever seen. Add the fact that as soon as foreigners were added to MLB ranks, they started to shatter records.
As Hamilton the play says “ immigrants get it done “

You speak to one pitcher. That’s not an argument. Now if you compared the stats of all pitchers and averaged those numbers you can begin to make comparisons but one player, two players, fifty players doesn’t make an argument.

You just said spread out which means average lol. You just contradict yourself. Average MLB career is a year longer than NBA. If you are going to hang your hat on that ? Your need help. If we add the years that an MLB player had to do in a minor system with less pay ( nba for the most part until recently didn’t have that ) it’s even worse for MLB players career averages.
Give it up, you lost this argument the minute you replied

Incorrect, and thats on par with every argument you’ve made. Spread out does not mean average. Average is a cumulative stat. Wealth spread has nothing to do with the cumulative number. And on that note I’m done arguing with you because it pointless to argue with ignorance. It’s obvious that you can’t be reasoned with.

You say 90 percent ? There is a salary cap. What defines a top pro? Super max? I would argue that some who received Superman contracts are not pros. But for sake of argument let’s say every max contract is a top pro. Most teams have 1 , some 2. Max contracts are anywhere between 32% and 40% of current salary cap dependent on when contract signed. Even if being generous and say every team has 2 max guys ( which they don’t) best case is 80% if they signed contracts this year. So yeah 90% is pulling numbers out of thin air which makes your whole argument irrelevant.

Just checked. MLB average salary is a smudge under 4 mil. NBA average salary is over 10 million. So yeah , wayyyyyyy wrong.
Google is your friend.
Well as of last season NBA was 7.7 million but yes this year coming up it is expected to be 10 million while baseball is 4.4 million. No reason to be rude though. I never told the guy he was wrong or that I knew for sure. I just said that I was pretty sure which is based off of what I have heard a lot of athletes say so I assumed they were right considering you know they are in the actual business.
When you say “ the rest of that is correct”. You are implying the notes part is wrong.
So yes, you said he was wrong.
Yes you hedge before that and said pretty sure , but then contradicted yourself a few sentences later and indeed say he was wrongFurthermore, hearsay and I heard someone say this or that is a poor way to enlighten yourself in life.
Our president always says “ I heard “ and look where that got us.
When I am wrong I am wrong. You are right, I did imply that he was wrong so that is my fault. As for the hearing someone say part, that would make a little more sense if I was saying that I heard this from random people on the street or friends, but this is what I have heard from pro athletes who I would consider good sources on the topic just like if a doctor told me things about the body I would most likely believe him. As for the president stuff, I like to leave politics alone so I'll leave that part alone. Either way, thank you for teaching me something today. Have a great day.

Ya I was more talking about the salaries once they make it to the league but either way I was wrong as I am finding out that NBA average yearly salary is more than MLB so you can just disregard my original comment. My bad haha.

The reduction of number of Black players is due to funding. A lot of great articles out there about why diminishing numbers. Has nothing to do with talent.
If you think about it , MLB and why less black players mirrors a lot of today issues with minority poverty and opportunities
Just curious, is it because of poverty or is it tough to find enough people to play because of the sport itself? buying glove, bat, balls, etc...other sports, you just need a ball if you want to play a pickup game.

It's two fold, MLB really does a horrible job with baseball exposure to these communities as well as marketing their own.
Also, without funding you aren't going to find anyone to play with if you're a kid in the community because their schools, rec centers never had the funds to start teams and actually expose new kids to the sport.
Take it from me, I'm a minority and played ball in the worst fields you can imagine, littered with rocks & a school district that could barely fund our team jerseys...forget about a letterman jacket. And this all took place in a major city in good ol America.
Was much easier for me to just have played basketball. -

Was much easier for me to just have played basketball.Unfortunately, MLB won’t donate to schools. That’s why high schools have their fundraisers to gain funds. I was lucky to live in a upper middle scale community that dumped money into the baseball program. Baseball is too expensive, especially for catchers.
