Send sds a private message with screenshots of the offense (e.g. tons of 0-0 final scores) this is obvious denial of service activity and can not only lead to being permabanned but can be referred to fbi for further investigation and criminal prosecution. This is coming from a cyber security expert not a raging gamer.
I’m like 95% sure this is a joke but 5% of me is scared this person is serious.
If he is doing DDOS to boot opponents offline then he’ll be facing legal consequences, as stupid as it may look like DDOSing people is ilegal and penalized with prison time.
Let me just stop you right there. I’ve worked for over a decade as a federal prosecutor and I can assure you that there isn’t an FBI office anywhere in the country that is going waste the manpower to investigate (nor is there a US Attorneys office anywhere in the country that would waste the resources to prosecute) someone for bumping individual players offline so they can win a Justin Verlander card in a MLB Show event. So let’s just stop with this nonsense. Perhaps you might anger SDS and they may impose a ban of some sort but there is a 0% chance of it going past that.
Probably not worth the energy and resources if related to a videogame. Just let me know something to be 100%, is it ilegal or not? I may have been wrongly thinking it is this whole time.

With respect to the DDOS stuff, I think technically the answer is probably yes. The statute they’d have to use is likely the Computer Fraud Abuse Act (CFAA), which has been used with some success in cyber bullying cases. The statute is really meant to apply to attacks on bigger systems and/or entire websites, but at least in some cases it has been applied to attacks on individuals. It would be a long shot to get anyone to agree to investigate or prosecute it though, as the result would likely only be a slap on the wrist and as such not anywhere near worth the time and effort.

As someone who actually works cyber security I can 100% guarantee you with out a doubt that it is illegal. It’s not only illegal it’s a felony if you're convicted. And there is actually a task force within the FBI that is dedicated to the investigation and prosecution of this offense. Several gamers have been prosecuted and convicted of performing denial of service attacks on large scale servers. So I disagree with the notion that they don’t waste their resources on “low level” crimes. DDOS is not low level regardless of the scale of the attack. You are basically hacking a person connection when you DOS someone. Anyone who has any understanding of these attacks and given enough bandwidth can do a great amount of damage to not only a single gamer but a large scale enterprise hence why there is no such thing as small scale when it comes to DDOS.

Just like the thread says first place is 60 and 0. This guy is so good that everyone quits before a pitch is even thrown. I hope one day I can be so intimidating to face.
I noticed that a few days ago. I don't know how the guy was able to pull it off or how SDS turned the other cheek with it. But, its not ok to call people out on the forum...
Nobody used their PSN id, so who exactly got "called out"?
Not sure what your asking? I said its not ok to call people out on the forums, per SDS. Unless you want a suspension or ban. But it's ok to cheat and make it obvious.

As someone who actually makes these kind of calls for a living I’m going to have to disagree. Yes even smaller “attacks” are a technically a crime. No it is not always a felony, and in a case like this almost certainly would not be. And yes there is absolutely a spectrum of severity in these types of cases. The task forces you’re talking about within the FBI as well as DHS and other cyber security agencies are focused on large scale events and if you brought a guy booting a few people offline within a video game to get a Justin Verlander card to them they would laugh you out of the building.

People have called each other on the forum for years, with SDS taking quick action on it. But not when it comes to cheating...I think some people are overthinking the obvious here. Of course the OP didn't use the guys name.

Yes, I know that, but people have over the years. SDS makes quick action on it, but not for cheaters...hence why I said SDS turns the cheek on stuff like this.

This event is so skewed against pitching. What a pain to get Lefty Grove. Seriously broken and disgusting.

The way you used your punctuation marks in your original comment is why people keep getting at you. I know now what you were trying to say but it was not very clear in your original comment. your original comment made it seem like you were saying it is not okay to cheat but that people should not call people out in this forum. You did not make it clear that what you were saying was that SDS isn't doing anything about cheating but they will do something when it comes to calling someone out on this forum. This is why people are sending you comments that may seem confusing to you.
