It makes perfect sense if he was though. They always give a card of the cover athlete for preordering and all the other top options to be cover athlete(Betts, Tatis, Soto, Acuna, etc.) all have 99s already

It does make sense yes but it’s still annoying as hell imo cuz I’m very reluctant to preorder

Cover Athlete? Did you see the season he just had? That’s a stretch. I could foresee Freeman or Abreu or even Tatis jr.
Two of which have 99s already. If there were any plans of making Tatis or Freeman the cover athlete, they wouldn’t have cards yet. Cover athlete comes with a pre-order card. Abreu simply doesn’t sell copies of the game. No matter how good Bellingers season was he still plays in a huge market and is one of the faces of the league

As far as the cover athlete I really think it’s going to be jeter, if it’s not, and they stay current then it has to be tatis , San Diego, the flair.... regardless of his potm card the cover athletes sells a lot of games. The pre order card at end of game cycle isn’t a huge swing factor imo if they want to use him.
Mookie Betts could also be cover material after that WS win, also Soto. No other current player would be an option imo
Jeter is likely to be the collection reward but he is also cover material even being out of the game for some time
