This is the best. What started as one post led to some new friends. So, let’s make some decisions and fire it up:
- All Star or HOF?
- CAPS (I have to admit I have zero idea what this means) - does that mean max player rating? Or created player?
- People who want to play (let’s go right to the max if we can, maybe set a commitment date by the end of this weekend?)
- Someone to help us out setting it up with the invites and all
- Limited to all dads or over 40 league, or both?
Personally, I like the idea of all star just for the fun of it. Playing HOF in the event has made me think my hand eye isn’t what it used to be. But I’m good with majority on any of this.
Also, do we all have to be on the same version? I have 16-19. I haven’t bought 20 yet (I usually play a year behind).
‘fraid so, Leagues only exist presently in TS20. Even if there were leagues in the other games cross-version-play would not be possible.
Looks like I’m going out to buy ‘20 now. I won’t have any cards to start so I’ll be on the bottom.

Like if a guy had a .340 average you would have to roll under 34 on the dice to get a hit. We then had a system similar to that to determine what type of hit it was. Good times!
I get made fun of too by my wife and kids for playing this game and getting as into it as much as I do. I usually play later at night to have more peace and quiet since this game requires so much concentration. I play a lot more now than I used to with more time at home due to the pandemic and all that. I think it would be an awesome idea for a league made of with some of us older guys and I'd definitely be down for that!
WOW Intellivision had the BEST baseball check out "World Series Major League Baseball" For the intellivision ECS it came out 1981/2 AMAZING for its time.
I remember that game! Not sure exactly what year my Dad bought our Intellivision but in 1981/1982 I would've been 5 and 6 years old. I would say I was more like 7 or 8 but I can't remember exactly. It was definitely ahead of it's time though, being able to have a video game system at your house! You used to have to go to this thing called an arcade to play video games....haha. I played all those Intellivision games, the basketball game they had was pretty fun too. I wish I still had that thing, it would be fun to hook up and see what I think of all those games today.
This was a diff game it was for the Intellivision ECS (Entertainment Computer System) it was a limited thing and didnt take off before the great crash of 1983 but this baseball game was one of its main games. from a simple google search.......

IWSB was one of the first sports games to use multiple camera angles and present a three-dimensional perspective. It was also the first statistics-based baseball simulation game on a video game console; all prior console baseball games were arcade-style recreations of the sport.That's interesting. That's not the game I was thinking of then. The box for the game looked familiar but I don't recall the game I remember being from a three dimensional perspective with multi camera angles. The one I remember was a LOT more simpler than that...haha. Definitely sounds way ahead of it's time though like you said.

I was a younger day (18 when my son was born) and now he's 16. Never gave up gaming. RBI baseball was good but I have fond memories of playing Hardball 3 on my pc. Needless to say my son and I get very competitive on the show.
That's cool that you and your son both play the game and it gets competitive. I have two daughters, one is into baseball and she'll go to Padre games with me (way back when you could actually go to a game) and watch games on TV but isn't really into The Show. She's played with me here and there but not that often. My other daughter isn't into sports at all. I can be pretty competitive and I think it would be fun to have some good battles with your son or daughter. I used to have those battles all the time with my friends as a kid and if my kids were good at this game, and competitive it would be a lot of fun beating them! haha.

Sorry guys I work nights so just seeing your responses...the way custom leagues work you can either play with your DD teams or you can choose to play with live roster (real life teams)...if you do live roster league you will be able to make trades and other guys don’t al have similar cards/players....another cool way to do it is play with DD teams but only choose one team-for example an all-time Cardinals team in which you can only use players/cards from one specific team...if we did that we could do a randomized team selection and pick which teams you want to use? Just some thoughts
Sounds like the majority would want to play with their DD teams but I could be wrong. I would probably vote for DD teams but I can see the fun in using live roster teams as well. The fact that you could make trades and are guaranteed to have different players on every roster would be fun. All time teams could be fun too. People might have to buy a bunch of cards to complete their team to make it competitive which could be a problem for some but I'm not sure where everyone stands on stubs. Both of those options would be alright with me though and so would everyone taking their DD team with whoever they want on it into the league. Like mentioned before, everyone would probably have pretty competitive teams this late in the game cycle and with a lot of content not every team would be the same. I'm sure you would see a lot of certain cards on teams but there would be some variation as well which would be good.

heres a lil more info on that game................Daglow and Dombrower went on to create the hit Earl Weaver Baseball game at Electronic Arts in 1987, where they more fully implemented the ideas behind Intellivision World Series Baseball. This set the stage for the EA Sports product line. In the early and mid-1990s, Daglow led the development of the Tony La Russa Baseball games, further refining baseball simulations.

That's good stuff man. I don't remember the Earl Weaver game but I do remember the Tony LaRussa game. Sounds like those guys, Daglow and Dombrower were trailblazers in the video game industry. Makes me wonder what they're doing now and what they might be able to come up with.

I also remember the old school baseball games. I remember being blown away hearing the umpire call balls and strikes on Intellivision, which was between Nintendo and Atari. Gen-X gamers are OGs of the gaming world, LOL.

Ok. So I fell way behind in this. Awesome posts. I found one of my Atari “Baseball” games from 1982 in a box over the weekend - need to figure out how to share the pic.
Anyway, so we’re locked in on:
- No limits on overalls
- No CAPS
- All Star mode so us old guys can see the ball coming
Just need to decide between the following for lineups:
- DD lineups (with all the new cards there is bound to be variety)
- Pick a team and use all time team
- Some other theme (only 80’s and 90’s players?) for our generation
Lastly, Over 40 league or Dads of any age? I am both so I don’t care lol - just want to keep this a fun league and not have to play crazy good full time players

43 year old dad of 4 here. Been playing The Show for as long as I can remember. Finally broke down and bought a second PS4 for the kids so I wouldn’t have to fight them for time. My wife is awesome and doesn’t mind me playing, since she recognizes how hard I work when not playing. I would love to play in an old mans league.

45 year old father of one. I’m surrounded by women in my house. Recently remodeled down to the studs and built a man cave in the basement. I can disappear down there for days! Been playing since ‘15. 2017 was the most fun I had playing the show!

All Star mode so us old timers can react quick enough....hahaPersonally, I like the idea of just using straight up DD teams with whatever cards you want to use. The all time teams, and theme teams could also be fun but like you mentioned, especially with the release of all these finest cards there would be a ton of variety in lineups. A lot of us have spent the entire game cycle on building up their DD team so I say let's run our best teams out there.
Hopefully we can get this league going, I think it would be a lot of fun!

Man I'm jealous! haha. 43 year old father of 2 girls so I'm surrounded by women in my house too so I know what you mean. I'd love to have a man cave to hide out in but at least I have a monitor to play this game on so I don't have to fight over the TV anymore.

I'd be game for a Dad League. I'm a 41 year old father of two. My son (12) and I play lots of MLB The Show. I have played since Bases Loaded 2 and RBI baseball on Nintendo.
Looking forward to some fun matches.

I’m game but I need to go out and buy ‘20. It sounds like this will put me behind the curve not having cards to build a DD team. I wouldn’t be opposed to picking a team and sticking with it also.
Will putting a minimum age requirement be possible? Young dads may be quicker than us old guys (I’m 59) but they’ll have more on their plate in real life too.

Good thread. 47 with a 4 year old and another literally due in about a week. Yes, I'm gonna be that guy in the hospital checking his phone, "Did my Mays buy order go through?"
Started with Intellivision baseball also, moved to C64 and Hardball & Micro League Baseball, NES Baseball Stars (my primary fantasy team's name every year is Ninja Black Sox) through just about every The Show, but only DD/online last couple years.
