The RNG results windows are to high. My personal favorite is a ball completely in the top portion of the PCI with good timing can be anything from a pop up to the C to a HR.
This. Game feels like it just randomly generates successful results when it wants to at times. Although swinging wildly early seems to be pretty consistent, unfortunately.

I dont understand why they had to change the whole pitching gameplay. Last year it was pretty consistent with hitting the areas rarely did any breaking ball get hung in the zone on perfect release points. This year it is hit and miss and not to mention how broken the fielding was this year early on. Yeah last year you had some glitches with certain player and you didnt even dare try diving for the ball but it was never where guys with high fielding were literally running away from the ball or not locking on.
-
Do we have any hope for it playing differently next year? If it plays the same, are you buying it again?

The pop up to the catcher is very frustrating. I feel like the game has trained me to be slightly early with the ball in the upper portion of the pci. It's what I'm trying to do every pitch , just have to laugh when it's a pop out bc other times the same thing produces a 500 foot misile

I have noticed lately its homerun or bust. I scored 12 runs the other day in a game and 10 were dingers..

The game has been like that for a long time. You need homeruns or you loose the game. No middle ground.

I probably will, because I'm too big of a baseball fan. But my tolerance levels are decreasing, if they don't deliver on next gen I might hang them up for good.

I’m hoping the processing power of the PS5 could help solve issues with the game. The game lack variety in every departments.

That on its own is not even an issue to me. The issue is how one game plays so differently from the next game and it's all latency/connection related. The timing windows online are so awkward that I often times have to counterintuitively swing super early or super late to get the desired result, which is the exact opposite of what you want to be doing to build up proper muscle memory and an actual skill level.

Yeah, hopefully the increased frame rate will help. I don’t see them doing anything with the matchmaking system though. And I’ve said this before, but I think there are too many batting stats and pitching stats that impact the outcome of each batted ball for their not to be a ridiculous amount of RNG. It would be nice to be able to stream line that to where pitching stats impact speed and movement and ease of hitting one’s spot, but do nothing when the ball is hit.

I fear the same in regard to the matchmaking system and networking code.

Gotta have garbage timing to have a ball touch the grass. Either Just late, PCI a mile off on early, or you better hit a bomb. No in-betweens. I've accepted this many months ago tho. Don't see this changing really.

I have hope, but not if it’s just the same game as it’s been for the last three years but with glossy visuals. I expect it will be, for the simple reason it has to be developed for current gen and next generation consoles. I’m not expecting anything too radical for at least another year, probably two, when it’s released on next gen only. I’d love SDS to prove me wrong though.
Also to the poster who said ‘19 was pretty good, it varied. There were points in the game cycle where the game felt pretty balanced, but in its final state, it was pretty close to ‘20 in terms of pitching. I still feel like ‘19 got a pass in a lot of areas, simply because ‘18 was so bad. With pitch speeds increased and content being the polar opposite of ‘18, probably the best content year in the five I’ve played, it felt like a better game than it was.
The main problem is always that it’s too easy to make contact with the ball, which kills pitching. Especially if you’re forced to play away at Shippet, where mediocre PCI placement results in hit after hit, most of them for home runs or extra bases.

8 out of 10 RS games go like this
First inning or two the better player will score right away but just a run or two. Then it’s five innings of stalemate (usually just a ton of fly balls near the warning track or double plays). If someone does score during stalemate time that run will be matched in the next half inning.
Then in the 8th the better player will get a two or three run lead. In the 9th the lesser player will get the tying and or winning run on base but will come up just short. This happening near the end leaves the better player happy because of the win and the lesser player believing he almost pulled it off.
Now this formula works until you experience the same scenario about 50 times and just realize it’s in the coding.

The inner pci needs to represent the barrel of a bat. No more of this “it’s the batter’s eye” [censored]. Calling it that is SDS’s way of justifying bad exit velos on perfect pci placement. Until then, I have no reason to believe that SDS wants the game to have a large skill gap. Why change the hitting at launch? It was the best it’s ever been imo out of the mlb games I’ve played: 17,18,19, and 20. Leads me to believe that the current state of the game is exactly what SDS wants
If the pci represents “the batter’s eye” then why does it emulate a bat path by moving up on early swings and down on late swings?

I can’t lie, I’ve argued heavily against game scripting and the like on this very forum over the years, but with over 1100 RS games played this year, that scenario sounds extremely familiar.

100% this is what they want. Not really skill-base, RS is just a show-down of who can outslug the RNG the most, sprinkled w/ some luck. I think everyone in the higher ranks accepts that we get W's and L's based on that recipe. It's pretty bad, I played a game on PC for years that was entirely user input with like 5% luck..so to go from that to playing DD online it makes me want to puke most of the time.

Sometimes you square up balls perfectly and you swing a noodle for an 85mph exit velo and the next game you can miss the ball completely and send it to Jupiter with a 110mph exit velo. I don't get it, I really don't. Some games my opponent scorches every single ball they touch, they hit out 10, 11 and 12 PCI placements while I get <90 mph exit velocities on 13/14 for swinging on the later side of good. Next game, I hit tank after tank after tank and I barely have to even place the PCI it feels like.
They should call it MLB The Inconsistency moving forward, the differences are literally huge from game to game and it's nearly impossible to develop muscle memory this way.
I get that it's hard to properly synchronize the server and both clients, but the differences are just too much to overcome and adapt to at times, this year more so than ever before it feels like. Sometimes a 98mph fastball looks like a changeup, next game a 95mph fastball looks like a 200mph rocket. Can't wait for Cyberpunk.
I made a post like this before I got banned for profanity. I agree, I don't get why they abandoned the gameplay tweaks so early on but pump out tons of moments and content. Balance it out SDS!!

I know I SHOULDN'T get the game next year because I'm rewarding SDS for such crappy gameplay execution. But as you said, I love sports games and the Show is the most competent of the sports games and I do enjoy the team building / plentiful programs.
Just wish they could bump the online gameplay SLIGHTLY to make it less random.
As I've said before, leave the crazy RNG to events so Timmy and Jimmy and Susan have a safe space to hit homers. Tone down the RNG for RS and let the users affect the outcome!

Couldn’t agree more with most everything stated previously.
I don’t understand why SDS is so scared to have user input weigh more into outcomes of H2H games....other than money and their bottom line.
As unfortunate as it is, I highly doubt that gameplay will be any different, in regards to the RNG and inconsistent gameplay.
We’re getting a whole new community base coming in with Xbox. The last thing SDS wants is for those consumers to pick up The Show for the first time and get obliterated by those of us that have played religiously for years. More than likely, they see that leading to a very abbreviated span of time that the player will play the game or lead to new buyers only purchasing the game 1 time
Ultimately, we will more than likely get the exact same game, gameplay wise, a few new big legends, great content and great programs....but H2H play still being heavily randomized due to a new consumer base having the game on their console now.
