They shouldn't. People who aren't Dodger/Rays fans will say it doesn't count though.

I wouldn't think so, there could be arguments made for this season being easier or tougher depending on how you want to look at it. Easier to get into the playoffs with how they structured it but tough because at any moment you could lose some players for some time to Covid and in a 60 game season losing 2 weeks is like losing 2 months in a normal season. Whoever wins definitely earned it so to me personally I dont believe there should be an asterisk.

My guess is if the Rays win nobody will care if they don’t get an asterisk. But, if the Dodgers win, all of a sudden. some people will care deeply.

Edit: I don’t think there should be an asterisk, winning a pro playoff tournament is insanely hard and still makes you a champion regardless of how many regular season games you played.

No way an asterisk is deserved. The winner had to survive a best of 3 WC round and we have both #1 seeds in the WS. Now, if it was Astros vs Brewers... maybe

It shouldn't because the playing field was equal for everyone.

Nope, both were expected to be in the playoffs before the pandemic, they were the 1 seeds, and they aren't the Astros.

There will be no asterisk but it will casually be mentioned forever. Also, who says things are back to normal for sports next year? Look around the world, Covid (and most other things) are currently getting worse.

I'm a no, and I was a no since the first pitch of the season. The Reds beat the Black Sox in 1919, the Astros beat the Dodgers in 2017, and there were several World Series champs while some of the best baseball players in the world were over seas fighting in World War 2 or forced to play in a different league because of the way they looked.

All of the best players in the world played this year with very few exceptions. If you've watched any of the playoff games this year you can see plainly that it means something to the people that are on the field. Yes, it was only a 60 game season and yes they played in front of empty stadiums. But, you had to go through an extra round of playoffs, including a 3 game series.

Whoever ends up winning this year will hand out rings and raise a banner.

    It counts.

    Go Dodgers!!!!

I don’t think it’s an asterisk but it should be considered a different championship. Part of what makes the World Series championship so impressive is the ability to endure a 162 game season & then defeat teams in the playoffs. A 60 game season is a entirely different thing. Example...The Rays usually fade down the stretch because they overuse their bullpen year after year. They didn’t have to worry about that this year.

Fair point, but on the flip side with how the playoffs were set up this year you had to use a lot more pitchers and it was its own grind. Do the Nats win the World Series last year if they can’t pitch scherzer and strasburg in every other game?

Adding to your points, though, I am a little wary of adding more playoff teams. I think it will diminish the 162 game accomplishment of winning your division.

Props and respect to the winner. More difficult to win in a season like this, I think.

Nobody ever talks about the strike-shortened 1981 season as being anything other than a normal championship.

No reason to think this is any different

I all reality, this was a shortened OFFICIAL season, so...No asterisks is needed. Although, some teams (my red sox comes to mind) seemed like they could care less if the won or lost this year trying catch a 1st round pick. Also, if they let Cora back as Manager, I will be rooting for the Yankees that I despise. I don't like cheaters.

Flags fly forever & the players left their families to play this out, so who cares what a bunch of non athletic idiots say at home. Whoever wins this W deserved it 100%

    No asterisks for this championship

    But

They story tood about the winner will be differnt but that goes for any one who wins regardless if its 1919 or 1993 or 2017 or 2020 every year is differnt and things happen that dont the next . I personally dont see this title being any less worth while then others in the past and I'll be honest my view on that changed after the first 10 games.

If anything I think this title means alot more as the world stop and no one knew if we would even see a champion crowned to get to this point and to be days away from that is something to behold and celebrated.
