The J Ram hate ....

Why?
He is the best 3rd baseman ( primary position ) in the game stats wise. He is a switch hitter with good defense. Max contact and power versus lefties and good stats versus righties. Not fast but not slow speed either. Very versatile in positions that are secondary ( allowing you to pinch run more effectively).
Out of position 3rd baseman? Only reason to play someone else at 3rd would be for base stealing speed ( which other positions fill ). Defense ? Schmidt (99 players) only one better and he a natural 3rd baseman. Want contact and power versus both lefty and righty? Tattis is about even. Tattis has speed but you sacrifice switch hitting which is very valuable in line ups.
Anyways , that’s my thought / rant. As far as the “ not worth the stubs” argument .... really? So much stubs floating around and so easy to get that the stub cost argument holds no water. If you were able to do all the moments for topps now ( a lot of time to do) then you are able to make stubs very easily

I have him and I don't like him for a couple of reasons, so I don't use him.
- He is short and that makes his strike zone awkwardly small. I don't like that.
- He is a switch hitter, but basically a lefty killer. Especially his contact versus righties is on the lower side, which I think is the second most important attribute in the game (after power vs R).
- His defense is good, but in my opinion defense at 3B doesn't matter all that much. I ran a bunch of guys with silver or bronze fielding over there and it hardly impacts the game.
- Rogers Hornsby is better in every aspect except for the defense, which isn't all that important as I argued in my previous point, and has one of the better swings in the game.
-
Always like raesONE posts. I prefer the smaller strike zone because yeah my twitch reflexes are bad. Have a hard time with the huge zones like Judge and so.

Appreciate it. And yeah I don't like Judge either because his strike zone is so huge. Anyone below 5'11 and above 6'4 feels awkward to me.
-
I think he’s great. I like the small strike zone as well and his D is good. I agree that it matters less than middle infielders, but it still plays at times, especially during a shift when your 3b is basically playing SS. I’ve run into reaction issues there with Sheffield.
-
I’ll try him out for sure but I already know the small strike zone will annoy me. I’ll probably find myself swinging at alot of high pitches Above the zone, thinking they are in and lay off alot of low pitches that normally would be balls, called strikes
Mondesi on the other hand, I’ll play him alot I’m guessing. Looks like a fun card to use.
-
I only used him once online so far and he was my only hitless player lol. Facing a lefty the whole game. Obviously I am not gonna judge him on that, but wasnt a good start.
Actually him and Canha were hitless. But Canha has been great.

It's not a bad card just isn't the best option that's all it is

I think a lot of the people who are not excited about this J Ram are people who already have a 99 J Ram.
-
I think the hate is multi level
-
JRam now has two 99 cards while a number of legends dont have a 99 yet
-
Most people who post in this forum have reach a prestige level high enough to take 99 JRam again and have 2 of him now.
-
People really want Freeman as the POTM even though he is clearly getting a 99 finest
-
There is a level of frustration that you have to complete a collection in order to unlock and complete the program

Yeah and? One is a flashback and it just so happens he got hot this month and got a very deserving 99. It wasn’t planned in the game’s cycle.
-
Again, so what? For most people, that Ramirez wasn’t even close to making their lineup. This POTM version is so much better. So for those who chose his Finest already and play him, they got a nice upgrade.
-
Fair point. Freddie was just as deserving but has done it consistently the entire year. He’s definitely getting finest or possible MVP.
-
That’s the biggest misconception on here. Doing all the topps now moments, completing the program gave you all the cards you needed for free. If people were too greedy to sell them once they were acquired, that’s their problem. The only “real” cost to doing this program is the 50000 in exchange. Which is anywhere between 3-5K stubs

Many combinations are better...
If at 3rd
Tatis (if for some stupid reason not at SS/2B)
Sheffield
Hornsby
Castellanosif at 2nd
Tatis
Hornsby
Honusif at SS
Tatis
Honus
Mondesi
Prestige Jroll
Banksif at 1B
...why?
and LF unplayable cause of speed IMO.
I'm literally starting him only because I'm a die-hard tribe fan, no other justifiable reason lol. -
I have to purchase 1 card to finish his collection so I will give him and mondesi a shot

I'm literally starting him only because I'm a die-hard tribe fan, no other justifiable reason lol.I think 3rd makes the most sense, so lets stick with that. For the record I've been running Schmidt and I believe defense matters at 3rd so Hornsby's poor D and weak arm are a non starter. Shef has the arm, but D is poor but I think he's more viable than Hornsby.
I run Tatis at SS and I have Mondesi at 2B right now but I could see alternating Hornsby there as I have been in the early innings.
As far as castellanos goes, how can you like him but not like Jram? better hitting stats, beter D and arm and switch hitting...
I think J-Ram is the best 3rd baseman available. Schmidt, Brett and Donaldson are tier 2 and everyone else like banks, Minoso, Shef. etc. are tier 3.

Completely disagree with discrediting Shef and Hornsby like that. I think you're giving defense way too much value at third, but that's just my opinion.

Were at a time in the game where a runner getting to 1st could easily mean a runner on 3rd very quickly. Cobb, Wagner, Mondesi, mantle, Trout, Henderson... Lots of speed out there. A mishandled bunt, a weak grounder, contact to the backhand side... I argue D at 3rd is more important at this stage of the game than it was at any other point.

I dont disagree with any of your point I was merely point out what has people up in arms.
I like the choice and the card and I'll use both of the cards when doing team builds.
Maybe I wasnt as clear as I should have been on my points

Don't really understand the hate, but I think it mostly has to do with him already having another 99 in the game. For what it's worth, though, this card seems way better than his other 99, just looking at the attributes.
Having played with him in an extremely small sample size (~4 RS games) I only have one hit and I'm not going to keep him in too much longer if I can't start hitting with him because I have other options for 3rd that I like (Sheffield, Hornsby, Foxx) and I'd also like to give Honus a try at 3rd when I eventually buy his card.
Even if I can't make it work with J-Ram though, the program was worth it for Mondesi. That card is just insane.
-
I’ve hit 4 HRs in 8 games with him and took Sheff spot at third. No way I’m playing Hornsby at third and Mondesi plays at 2nd so I sold Honus. Castellanos is great at third
