Getting shut out in the 8th, Tatis hits a solo jack. Down 2-1. He brings crochet in, Jorge walks, and then Gary walks. So two on with no outs and honus comes up to bat, get in a two strike count. And I laid my first bunt down of the year (felt dirty about it) but couldn't sacrifice a double play. Got on, brought in nick for Larry, then hit a grand slam causing him to dashboard.
I hate bunt cheesers, but am I wrong for putting a bunt down in a critical situation?

Not wrong at all. And don’t let anyone tell you any differently.

Nothing wrong with using bunts as intended in my books.

Nope, anyone that has an issue with it is wrong. Game on brother.

Well done. There is a big difference in strategically laying down a bunt and guys who build entire teams and do nothing but try to bunt every play...( even that I do t really care about as I can defend....but they tend to bunt dance non stop and that driveS me crazy.

Wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Even if you hit into a double play, you would have hit a 2 run HR with nick with 2 outs anyway.

Also, I never bunt in bunting situations because I pretty much bunt into a double play 99.99% of the time.

Triangle is my “here is two free outs” button

In a sense, yes, but not necessarily. Changes a few things.
Say it was only a sac bunt, runners on 2nd and 3rd, you may be walking Castellanos, depending on the on deck batter.
Could have brought someone out of the pen since the 3 batter minimum had already been met.
I tend to throw a lot more curveballs and 2seamers when I’m looking for a ground ball, so he could have been pitched to differently. For some reason, those have been my best ground ball pitches

That's not what bunt cheese is. Sure, if you were my opponent, I'd be pissed. Doesn't mean you were in the wrong, though.

This is why you have a great fielding 3B with Diamond defense. You won fair and square and you're not "wrong"!

No, because it doesn’t matter. The game is so broken online you may as well have all 99 speed hitters and just cheese because skill isn’t even fairly represented this year at all with the amount of connection issues and fielding errors.

Seriously. Who cares? I made CS on pure luck and I felt bad for the other guy at times but it’s a total [censored] shoot unless you have a good ping.

In this situation you made the correct play. I don't like people who intentionally abuse the bunt, when that's all they do all game long with a team full of speed cheesers. But in the situation you described its actually a very good strategy and a true baseball play to sacrifice in order to eliminate the DP and move the runners in scoring position. The fact that you beat it out to get the bases loaded is just something that your opponent has to account for and make defensive adjustments.

It's all about situational awareness that you had and your opponent didn't.

I dont look at that as bunt cheesing. That was a good strategy given the game situation.

Nothing wrong with bunting in bunt situations or against a shift. Those are baseball plays. It's the people who bunt 4 times a game with Lofton/Jackie/Lou Brock et al. that drive people insane.
