How do you guys keep yourself from getting too swing happy. I find myself especially online but even against the CPU getting pretty swing happy. Any tips for maintaining plate discipline?

Patience, patience is key. Don't swing at every pitch that comes your way, and don't be afraid to take a pitch that you don't like. If you pay enough attention to the pitching AI you can better predict what he's going to do (where he'll throw and whether or not he'll try to make you chase) and prepare accordingly.

If you're swinging and missing a lot with a particular player, it could be that he doesn't have a great plate discipline stat. Try using players that have better discipline and see if that helps—the more plate discipline they have, the better they'll be at checking their swing.

This is an aspect of the game I know nothing about, I’d swing at a butterfly if it flew in front of the plate.

It's just something that comes naturally in time. I can't put my finger on when I could start identifying when it's a ball when leaving the hand, it's not that I used this super-secret formula to help me, it's just something that comes from playing a lot.

I don’t know why this works for me but it does. I use strike zone view to hit. When I get too swing happy I will go into custom practice and try different views. Usually the show 15 or 16. Hit like that for a bit in practice and then switch back to strike zone to finish up. I find I’m more patient again. I think if I stay so focused on strike zone I get too swing happy. Getting the different view helps me define the zone again.

That's pretty much what I do. I put my controller down until I have two strikes on me.
